Bubin retires

Offensive tackle Sean Bubin, who spent half of the 2006 season on the Patriots' practice squad, announced his retirement today. He had been re-signed to a one-year, $360,000 contract for 2007.

The 25-year-old Bubin, who entered the league in 2004 as a fifth-round draft choice of the Jaguars, was a longshot to make the Patriots' roster.

Random.

All it really means is an extra roster spot available come UDFA signing time.

Is it training camp time already? That's when the Pats have an OL retire every year.

Looks like we go OT at #24.

and i thought i could make that joke sure enough someone beat me to the punch

The Bubin era over so soon.

I guess he's already got a job paying 360K?

Lucky man..retired well before 30. He must be set

WHo knows exactly why...but it happens..some just do not like the rigors of training camp and offseason programs the regimen of it all...

This could be a good thing. Pats seem to win Superbowls when an O-lineman randomly retires prior to the start of the season... ;)

It seems like they've finally gotten more efficient about the process. ;)

Yeah, but WTF are we all gonna do with our Bubin jerseys?

My first thought was an injury was undercutting his development. This definitely opens up the day two OT window, there are some good looking kids available.

I'll be honest. With the age of Kaczur and Light (28 and 29 respectively) and the Injury questions with O'Callaghan, I think it opens up the potential for the Pats to take a round 1 pick if he falls to them.

RB and OT first round?
