Brady Quinn: 'I'm Going To Be A Bust'

April 19, 2007 | Issue 43•16

DUBLIN, OH—Top draft prospect Brady Quinn, a strong-armed quarterback out of Notre Dame who is expected to be taken with one of the first five picks in the draft, told scouts interviewing him at his family home Monday that he would in all likelihood be a huge NFL bust. "While it's true I have impressive arm strength, and that I'm willing to stand up in the pocket against the rush, the fact remains that my lack of downfield accuracy gets me in trouble on the deep throws and my field vision is suspect," Quinn told draft evaluators from the Raiders, Browns, and Cardinals."Combine that with the enormous starting bonus I'll receive and the tendency for teams to try and develop quarterbacks long after they should give up, and I really just have 'bust' written all over me." While Quinn recommended teams look to solid prospects such as quarterback Jamarcus Russell, tackle Joe Thomas, and running back Adrian Peterson, Raiders owner Al Davis is reportedly more interested than ever in signing Quinn.

God bless The Onion, and all who write for her.

If I was Quinn I'd be saying the same exact thing, to the Raiders and Lions.

I agree, IMO it seems he knows he is going to go to a bad team to start out with and he sure as hell looks at David Carr's early years...those 70+ sacks a year must be sitting in the back of his head...why would anyone say they aren't very acurate? Aren't most QB's the first to tell you that the ball was thrown perfectly, and it wasn't thier fault that the reciever ran the wrong pattern, etc, etc...

PD.

Neither team is interested in him.

That is why the Lions will never win. A franchise QB is the hardest thing in football to find. The lions will pass on Quinn because why? If I were Matt Millen I would be frothing at the mouth thinking about drafting a new QB with as much potential as Quinn has. He comes from a pro type offense run by a coach who has run the offense that won three Super Bowls in the last 6 years. He has a big arm and makes most all of the throws he has to make to win. Even if he is only an average QB over his carreer, he will be better than what they have now.

Because The Onion is a satirical website. Here's another one of their articles:

Press Conference Reveals David Ortiz Clearly Doesn't Know Who Jackie Robinson Is
BOSTON—David Ortiz's halting, stammered response to a question regarding baseball legend Jackie Robinson directed to him in a clubhouse press conference Tuesday demonstrated that the designated hitter clearly has no idea who Robinson was or what he was talking about. "Oh, yeah, I know that guy. We played ball together, you know, couple years, when we were both younger. How's he doing, anyway?" Ortiz said, dismissively, eliciting puzzled murmurs from the assembled reporters. "Jack played some good ball. Man was always a lot of fun to be around." When reporters attempted to bail Ortiz out by asking leading questions concerning the many barriers Robinson broke, Ortiz responded by saying he had heard the news, that he certainly hoped Robinson would be okay, and that Jackie should not have been driving drunk in the first place.

Brady Quinn will be the starting quarterback of the Miami Dolphins in 2008. :D

Yes he will, and he will be a bust.

Bustin' out Lombardi trophies. :D

Creative, unless Joey Porter plans on fashoning something out of the turd Cleo Lemon produces in his pants once he sees Adalius Thomas and Rosevelt Colvin rushing through holes in his offensive line, there will be no Lombardi trophy in Miami.

I just want to point out that Quinn did not say "I"m going to be a bust"....he said he has 'bust' written all over him.

Not that there's much of a difference, just want to point out that the title is slightly misleading.

NFL Draft In Chaos As Mel Kiper's Big Board Is Knocked Over
April 19, 2007 | Issue 43•16

BRISTOL, CT—NFL officials and ESPN executives made an emergency announcement Tuesday stating that the 2007 NFL Player Draft may have to be postponed indefinitely, as draft guru Mel Kiper Jr.'s Big Board, the index-card-laden bulletin board used to catalog, rank, and track every single player in the draft, was accidentally knocked over late Monday night.

"I just got up from my seat at the table to get a cup of coffee, and I must have hit the Big Board with my shoulder," said Kiper, holding up a loose stack of cards bearing players' names, positions, and schools printed in his distinctive block letters. "Now, the entire draft has been jumbled all together and no one is sure what player should go when. We might have to wait until July for me to get everyone back where they belong."

"Look at this," Kiper said, gesturing to a table where his Big Board lay uncharacteristically horizontal and bereft of player rankings. "It's not supposed to be like that. Not supposed to be like that at all."

Since the Big Board's introduction in 1984, it has served as the ranking medium for all top NFL draft picks. In its entire 23-year history, the Board has never before been knocked completely all the way over.

"This is much worse than the 1995 'bobble' of the Big Board that saw five players' names from the mid-first round come unpinned and flutter to Mel Kiper's floor," said Buffalo Bills general manager Marv Levy, who was woken by aides and told of the knock-over only minutes after it occurred. "We weren't sure whether we were supposed to draft Warren Sapp, Ruben Brown, Mark Fields, or Ellis Johnson. In the end, we had to guess, and Sapp went to Tampa Bay. I don't want this to happen again, to anyone."

It's satire folks. The piece on the draft in the prior post is priceless. I had posted it as well until I saw GJAJ's post.

And, I have it on good authority that a defective push-pin accounted for Tom Brady's name falling from the Board until someone found it on the floor at the beginning of the Sixth Round in 2000...
