First off I'd like to thank you for being our coach & producing a dynasty.
Second, I am nothing compared to you & Im sure you think of everything.

But here's a weird idea that might sound strange in the beginning but could be fruitful.

This trade of course assumes Russell will be picked first by Oakland.

Oakland picks Russell. Millen is under pressure not to pick another receiver but...

NO, not trading Asante & a pick or 2 for the 2nd pick of the draft (too expensive any way) but trade Asante for......

Roy Williams !!!- straight up. Why ?

1) Franchise receiver-One of the top 3 young receivers in the league- Brady gets his go to guy for the next 100 years- I remember Tom Brady was drooling over him. This guy is AWESOME, no crap shoot here.

2) Major salary cap saving for a while (dont have exact numbers) which can be used for other players/free agents etc...we can spend the extra 3-4 million a year on i.e. Seau, Hartwell, Al Wilson,Arrington (1 mil each) & hope 1 maybe 2 pans out as backups- DONT rip me for this part ....or sign Gay long term or....

3) we keep our 1st round draft picks for corner & safety/ilb

4) 5 of our receivers could be gone by next year (troy, caldwell, gaffney, washington & stallworth)

5) we would eventually lose Asante any ways next year.

Detroit gets to draft the best player available (in a loooong time)- Calvin.
Replaces the cornerback they lost to Denver with Asante Samuel.

Gets a running back (Bell)& tackle (Foster )from Denver & probably drafts Stanton or Stanford guy in the second. Not bad for Matt Millen.

We will get the best athlete we can for Asante.

Better than say getting Laron Landry # 6 while losing our 24 (as suggested by redskins rumors)

In other words Roy Williams + # 24 (Chris Houston) or Laron Landry lose the # 24. I dont think theres an argument there.

Obviously we will have to shore up the secondary which started with Tory James, perhaps extending a not so expensive contract for Gay & drafting 1 or even 2 cbs.

What do you think?

Also if you'd like to hire me I'd love to work for you LOL.....

Peace

Edit:

I think if you were a Patsfan since say, 1981, he might consider it.

If you spelled his name right you might be even more effective. :)

It's usually a good idea to correctly spell the name of the recipient when you are writing a letter. ;)

Return to sender addressee unknown - Theres no guy named BelichEck in Foxboro Mass. :D

According to Jets fans, he is called Beli-chicken.

maybe asante and one #1, but two? Thats just plain highway robbery, not to mention he's injury prone and has maturity issues (he garuanteed wins while playing for the lions, doesn't sound like a rational mature adult to me)

I'd do that trade every time. Get an established player on a rookie deal in exchange for an established player that wants a bank breaking deal. I dont think Matt Millen is that dumb but it would provide him the perfect excuse to draft Calvin Johnson.

BREAKING NEWS:

Foxborough, Ma The Patriots have announced today that all work on the upcoming draft and FA's have suspended to pursue a trade proposed on patsfans.com.

Coach Bell Belicheck and head of Player Personnel Scoot Piolori were seen in the hallway yelling at each other "why didn't you think of that"!

More as this story developes.

Who says Americans don't do irony? ;)

You guys are just ruthless! The guy tries to come with some pre-draft thoughts on a trade, and you guys just totally bash him. Maybe a little more contruction in your criticism? After all, maybe Belichick and Pioli are considering this ... could happen!! :p

In all seriousness, no matter how good of a prospect Calvin Johnson seems to be, Millen would be insane to trade the 1 WR that worked out for him and replace him with a question, again, no matter how perfect he looks.

On paper, getting Samuel and Johnson and losing only Williams looks great if the players play the way they're expected. However, if Johnson doesn't live up to the hype or Samuel doesn't become the shutdown corner he looks to be, Millen would be screwed and so would the Lions.

i still say, why trade Asante? He knows he has to play his butt of in 2007 to get the money he wants and the Patriot are going for it all this year. You've picked up your receivers and you have 2 first rounders coming up.

sometimes the best trades are the ones not made.

Maybe I will hit powerball also, this is what happens on this board.. FYI there is a draft board for this type of stuff.

I agree with you cousin,
This is supposed to be for fun and entertainment. None of the moves that the Pats F.O. do will affect your life or mine on a day to day basis. If the Pats trade Assante it won't put a dime in my pocket.

Now some of these Thread Warriors are very knowledgeable guys. Some treat you with respect and others that suffer from various mental maladies, like to perform the game of one-upsmanship. Their egos get fed. The ego guys I don't respect because they don't respect others.

I kind of enjoy when someone throws new trade ideas or thought provoking drafts. Nobody responding on these sites is right or wrong until something actually happens. Opinions are what you yourself own, not the guy that tries to make you out a fool.

It's like one member said, when his ex-wife couldn't win an argument because she was way off base, she would yell louder. I picture some of these "I know more about the Patriots than you". Mel Kiper/Ron Borges wannabes, actually yelling as there typing away to put the writer down they might disagree with.
You dudes out there!!!, I want to see your pay stub from The New England Patriots football club, then I won't think your juvenile jabs are covering for your real lack of knowledge.

These sites sometimes are like sitting in a bar room with half drunk steam-fitters, or worse yet lawyers with tobacco stained teeth, reddened eyes and bad breath poking you in the chest with their finger to MAKE THEIR POINT CLEAR! THEY ARE RIGHT NO MATTER WHAT!

Thankfully for my many fans ... no! (Nor would I be seen dead in whatever garment it is that he is applying his iron to.)

That said, you have to admire a guy who rappels down a five hundred foot cliff and takes a dip in 34 degree water to do his ironing.
