hurt similar players who are entering the draft from the same school?

I have been reading (and seeing on ESPN) recently that the stock of Chris Houston and Dwyane Jarrett have fallen because of busts Ahmad Carroll and Mike Williams respectively.

For Houston, I have never really be high on him because of his lack of commitment to run support. And that is a key aspect that the Pats look for in their CBs.

For Jarrett, I can understand that there are similarities between him and Williams, however, I think that Jarrett has a better attitude and has better explosion in and out of his cuts on his route running than Williams does.

similarly, would Larry Johnson have ended the Penn State RB bust theory?

conversely, are all Tedford-coached QBs doomed?

Yes. Yes they are. And if Lynch isn't special, that's going to extend to all offensive players under Tedford.

The best example is still Spurrier's offenses, QBs and WRs never pan out.

Nebraska and Wisconsin RBs have been downgraded for years because they always have fantastic offensive lines.

Add Texas Tech QBs to that list too.

Larry Johnson was a late 1st round pick because of the Penn State RB history. His eventual success, I believe, only sprays a little potpourri on the PSU RB stench created by the likes of Curtis Enis, Blair Thomas, et al.

I think that your premise is true to a certain point. I think that Williams is definatley hurting Jarret, however if Jarret ran a 4.3 instead of the 4.62, his stock would be much higher. I think that his 40 time is hurting him much more than his association with WIlliams.

Cedric Benson still got drafted 4th in spite of not only coming from the same school as Ricky WIlliams (hey maybe it's just the WIlliams') but he also was sporting dreds like Ricky too! Although Maimi did draft Ronnie Brown ahead of Benson.

Some college teams have shown that their "systems" seem to produce high numbers from talent that does not seem to pan out in the NFL.

ala Texas Tech QBs, any QB who plays his home games in Florida, and now it looks like USC WR, which would make sense since the Florida schools are constantly putting out high quality WR, TEs, and RB all of which would make the QBs look much better than they actually are, USC has put out 3 very good QBs who obviously made their WRs look much better.

However on the other hand, some schools just constantly pump out talent at certain positions.

Miami U-RB, TE and anyone who plays on the defense for them. There is a reason they average about 4 first rounders a year.

Texas seems to be producing some serious talent in the secondary.

BC-lineman, this has been true for decades, for a school that really isn't "big time" they produce solid offensive lineman, year after year. Would anyone here be disappointed if the Pats draft Beekman?

Penn State-LB U, is this helping or hurting Puz?

As a PSU alum who coincidentally enough will be returning tomorrow for the annual Blue/White game, I think PSU-LB U is really hurting Poz. Let's be honest here, PSU has had a terrible run of drafted players. Since 1999, 1st rounder players as follows: Courtney Brown, Lavar Arrington, Michael Haynes, Bryant Johnson, Jimmy Kennedy...Only one has made it, LJ, and only one more might make it Tamba Hali.

I love this school more then any club on this planet, but I even must recognize that PSU seems to be a program that excels in college but does not have the fundamental NFL skills that transfer over. I also predict Tony Hunt to be a quality RB to the effect of a Travis Henry in the next level and I expect Levi Brown to be a bust. My heart won't let me size up Poz as he has meant sooooo much to this college...Watch for Connors next year to be the LB who will be great.

Isn't Connors about the same size and speed as Posluzny?

It's unfair to call Ricky Williams a bust, though. He was a nutjob, sure, but he was the best running back in football for the couple of years before he went nuts.

would sean morey being a bust at wide out have a effect on deossie?

while I suspect that you are simplky trying to be a douchebag

Sean Morey was a 7th rounder that was lucky to have been drafted at all. He currently is considered a special teams ace.

DeOssie is widely considered to have far more upside and will likely be a mid-round selection.

But feel free to continue in your douchebaggery.

Care to explain how your example fits into the scenario?

The scenario is: "Can previous busts from the same school hurt similar players who are entering the draft from the same school?"

I can tell you how it doesn't fit into the scenario.

1) Morey is a WR and DeOssie is a LB. They aren't similar players. Not in the way that Dwayne Jarrett is to Mike Williams or Chris Houston is to Ahmad Carroll.
2) Morey was a 7th round draft pick. He's been an excellent special teamer. He can hardly be considered a bust.
