And, while I do take into consideration that it was printed before the combine, I have to say that some of the projections are really head-scratching.

Michael Griffen as a 4th rounder.
Chris Houston as a 4th rounder.
Kevin Kolb as a 2nd rounder while Brady Quinn as a 3rd rounder.
Kenneth Darby as a 3rd rounder.
Brandon Siler as a 5th rounder.

Anyone else notice this?

A few of us commented on this a little while ago. Lynde does his own evaluations and he likes some and doesn't like others. but it's good to get different takes on players.

Pro Football Weekly, for example is not a big fan, of Houston and gives good reason.

Next week the Sporting News will come out with their update in their regular edition. I hope that they update the "big board" I really like how they have that layed out.

I also like the way the SN value board is layed-out, with overall rank beside each player, in their pre-draft issue. Let's see if Lande sticks to his grades circa-Combine, or if he falls more in line with the consensus.

I feel I got ripped on the Espn and the PFW issues. I hate the fact that ALL the 40 times are wrong. It's almost like they assumed it would just pass right off the average reader. No doubt these magazines just want your money. Good player reads though but not worth the 8 bucks I paid. This is the last year I buy draft magazines. Next year I will read it in the store.

There is always a ton of movement between the end of the college season and the draft.

At the end of the college season, before the combine and prodays, I had 28 guys with 1st rouns grades:

3 blue chip prospects:

Russell
Johnson
Thomas

11 blue chip prospects:

Peterson
Jarrett
Brown
Quinn
Landry
Branch
Bowe
Adams
Anderson
Nelson
Revis

14 white chip prospects

Ginn Jr.
Meachem
Grubbs
Carriker
Posluzny
Okoye
Hall
Lynch
Willis
Miller
Spencer
Merriweather
Ross
Hughes

I'm not saying that these are PAtriot type players, just players I gave a 1st round grade back in early January. Now however there has been a ton of movement, as there is every year as eventually it will all shake out in 9 days.

Kolb has been climbing up the draft boards of some GMs, notably the Fins like him a lot.

As for Quin, I don't think there's any way he slips out of round 1 or even the top 10 for that matter. I think TSN projects the players according to how it thinks those players should be taken talentwise, rather than where they will actually be taken in the draft.

Yes, he projects how talented he thinks they actualy are, and where he thinks they should be drafted, not where he thinks they will be drafted.

I would hope that all of them will do that. I know Nolan Nowrocki of Pro Football Weekly does the same.

When they do their mocks, that's where they should place a player on the basis of where they think he will be drafted.

Those draft magazines go on newsstands as early as Febuary. That's why you see a lot of 40 times that are wrong because they are estimated. Do rely on these magazines to be accurate because their rankings are almost always wrong. Things can change over 2-3 months.

Just got the regular weekly edition and they have updated their rankings on their value baord.

Here is their 7 round Patriots mock

24 Meriweather
28 Harris:rocker:
91 Tarell Brown CB, TX could be a good one or a bust
127 Dwayne Wright RB Fresno:rocker:
171 Rhema MCKnght WR ND
180 Chris Bender OT Nicholls State Have to look him up
202 Chris Denman OT Fresno
208 Maurice Price WR Charleston So. have to look him up
209 Tyler Ecker RE Mich
247 Jason Trusnick DE Ohio Northern - have to look him up

I'm feeling Merriweather at #24 because he may be a liability off the field. David Harris at #28 may be a reach, but who knows? Harris may be a first round grade through the eyes of many teams. Who thought Mankins would have been drafted in the first round? I didn't know who Mankins was until I looked him up in my draft magazine after the commish called his name. Terrell Brown is a hit/miss prospect.

this actually looks like a pretty good draft to me on paper.

Wouldn't be unhappy with it. I've said it enough but Willis or Harris are the "must get" guys.

Meriweather is good player - hope that he has grown up. Brown could be a real find or a bye- bye. I like Wright and had him on my RB kisst. McKnight would be a good red zone receiver but he may hurt his ankle and go on IR:singing:

I find myself going back to the Athlon Draft Guide over and over, I think I like it better than all the others. I have the PFW (magazine), SN, Athlon, Lindy's, Street & Smith's (the worst).

YUCK. That is a horrible draft after the 1st round.

Hey Bruinz? Have you made any mock drafts on here? I'm interested in who's on your mock, since you seem to have strong opinion's on who they should or shouldn't pick. Have a link? I ask because I can't remember reading any of your mocks, but I remember seeing you comment on a lot of others.

Yes, I have put up a mock on here. I've reposted it a couple of times. Feel free to go look it up.

Oh, and for a breakdown of the draft listed:
Tarnell Brown just got busted for possession.
McKnight isn't great and I think the comparison's to Givens are over-blown. There are other prospects who bring more value.

Why would the Pats use 2 picks on OTs and 2 on DEs that late in the draft? Especially when there is other positions of value?
