This goof actually thinks his appeal if he is stupid enough to try would change things and get him out of this years full suspension - NO WAY

Waste of time if he does, the suspension is signed, sealed and delivered but he does not get it,reality of what he does off-filed does not sink into that small brain of his-Goes to show you many atheletes get by with thier sport talent-NOT intellect.

Lucky he was not suspended for life and had to go to the Canadian Football League or worse,Arena Football!

I think he's lucky to perhaps even be able to come back after week 10. I think he is counting on it. However, if ANY of his pending stuff (in the ATL-I think, and Vegas) goes awry, it could leave him out for a much longer period of time.

Why not appeal? Stranger things have happened than an arbitrator ruling the suspension is unprecedented. Everything he did to get himself suspended makes him an idiot, trying to lessen the suspension through the appeal process is a nobrainer he has to try.

It could work well for him if he finds someone who buys the "no convictions" argument. I happen to not buy it - there's a lot of things that would get any of us suspended or fired from our jobs without being illegal - but the right person might buy it.

I dont think he can win on an argument that the suspension is invalid. I think his case is using past examples of suspensions for off the field issues (Ray Lewis, Jamaal Lewis, etc) to say the length of the suspension is excessive.

If I understand this right, the conduct rules weren't in existence when he had all this troubles, they were put into play because of PacMan's problem (as well as others) ie. after his legal troubles.

So I suppose he could say that it's unfair to punish him for breaking rules that didn't exist yet.

That said, I think he deserves the suspension and probably more, he in particular is a black-eye to the league, his team, and the game.

Right but the "no convictions" thing can be combined for the excessive argument.

What bothers me about the suspension is his not being able to be with the team except once a week.

That is a horrible decision.

If there is anything this guy needs, it is structure and mentors, and not the mentors he has been hanging around.

The suspension takes away his pay for a year. Fine. Having him shunned by his team makes no sense.

Let him be with it. Let him take part in practices, meetings, etc.

Let him see again what he will lose should he get into trouble again, but mostly give the kid a place to go everyday, and give him something to occupy his mind.

good point spacecrime. i agree. he needs to be around the vets to mature,if possable:rolleyes:

I can agree with that.

lol am i the only one that agree's with pacman???

does anyone know what he's being suspended for specifically??

i know he's been arrested a few times...but idk if he's been charged with anything, let alone been convicted

its not like police found automatic weapons and live ammo in his house, or a 4th failed drug test...

well i dont agree with the way hhe got/gets arrested, but i do aree that his suspension is excessive and gooddell is using him as a poster boy

punish him, but dont punish him with the new league rules/standards, with the old league rules, b/c that's when he got arrested and what not...

I'm sure his lawyer will argue that he has a right to work in his field and that the suspension was not related to anything that happened within the workplace. They'll say his bad behavior is beyond the scope of the employers right to prevent him from "earning a living." It will probably all come down to any specific morals clauses with the collective bargaining agreement that was in place when he signed his current contract.

This may not be the slam dunk for the league that we think it should be. I personally think he's a jerk and a thug, but I can see the "right to work" defense coming.

I do not think any one associated with decisions to bring any player back from suspension will mess with the New Commish.
This would be a major stab wound with Goodell being so early in his position and I don't think the league would do that,His decision was final IMO.

I agree with you, even though I can't stand PacMan and his antics. He's just being scapegoated.

This is the major difference between baseball and football. PacMan has no luck here because his players union is week. if this was baseball the suspension would be cut in half.

Jones is right. The suspension was ridiculous. Sadly, far too many people think that it's perfectly ok to screw these players out of their livelihood for things that have nothing to do with the job. The guy's not in jail, hasn't been convicted of anything, and is being made an example of by a bunch of idiots who care far more about money than they do about the players who make that money for them.

I wonder how many people here think that they should lose their jobs just because they got into a fight in a bar, for example.

Old news... I don't think he should have gotten a whole year though, he hasn't been convicted, Henry should have had the year...

Wow. I can't believe people are siding with jones on this.

In any event:

1. I believe the rules were already in place, but that they have chosen not to enforce them rigidly in the past. Goodell is going to enforce the existing rules, I don't believe he is making new rules (at least, that is my understanding).

Jones could argue that it is unfair to punish him when others in the past have not been punished for similar incidents. He could also argue that the punishment is excessive. However, if the rules were already in place, I don't see how he can argue that they don't have the right/power to suspend him.

2. The fact that the incidents were not job related is totally irrelevant. Are seriously saying that if a guy rapes some girl, his employer could not fire him if it didn't happen at work? If an employer finds out an employee is a member of the KKK, are you saying they couldn't fire him? There are plenty of incidents which are fireable offenses even if they occur outside of work.

Also, don't forget that these are not only employees, they are the product and are public figures. This is a unique situation. If their behavior will affect the public's perception of the product, it is certainly in the NFL's interest to ensure that the perception is good.

3. What does whether he was convicted or not have to do with anything? A conviction requires proof beyond a reasonable doubt. There is no such requirement to fire, fine or suspend someone. Look at OJ simpson. He wasn't convicted, even though everyone knows he killed two people. An employer would be stupid not to fire him.

Under the "no conviction = no suspension" rule/logic, you couldn't suspend anyone unless they were convicted of a crime. That means a man could be arrested for beating his wife but because she decides not to prosecute, he can't be punished by the league.

IMO the appeal is just the final part of his rights in this matter, if he continues to loose, which I predict he will, will only validate Goodells decision and might be helpful in having him wake up to the realities of the world and how people are supposed to live. Should not fault him for pursuing his rights in accordance with their collective bargaining agreement.

i agree,

the only good thign that comes out of this is that goodell will prevent the nfl to turn into a "thug" league like the nba has become...

in the end i think he'll get his appeal and goodell will probably lift his suspension, goodell is just using him as a poster boy to show, "in the future, dont mess with the commish"...

What arbitrator? There ain't no arbitrator! There is only the Commish who suspended him! And after saying to the Commish that he would take his suspension like a man he does a one-eighty and decides he's going to appeal. The one person who hears the appeal and rules on it is the Commish! His suspension will be upheld and there's now no way he won't serve the entire year because he just proved he's too @#$&% stupid to be allowed back early!
The moron just doesn't get it!!!
