So its left than two weeks till the Draft and the Pats have two first round picks. Will the Pats use those two picks, will they trade down one or maybe trade up to get a higher pick.

I would like to see them take one of the top linebackers this year (willis if he was avaliable, but he probably won't be, I think the Pats should draft Jon Beason) and a good saftey if there is one left with there other 1st rnd pick. I think it would be a good move to trade down and get two second rnd picks with one of those 1st rnd picks. There is a few good LB and CB that will be there in the 2nd round.

Check out the draft board if you wanna see 6 - 7 million threads on the same topic!

For the record I hope we trade down the 28th for tamps 2 second rounders : )

I also hope we get a first rounder and a 2007 second rounder for Greedy pants.

we are picking Timmons LB with our first pick...i will bet on it.

i hope for that too but could be a stretch....

i was talking to a friend and he said a lot of mocks he's seen have the skins trading down to the pats 24/28 spots

and the pats taking laron landry

in the end, i'd lke to see S/LB in the 1st round

dude not to sound like a broken record but there is like 12329809 threads on this....but id hafta agree with the two 2nd rounders for our picks...i think the value of two guys in the 2nd is way better then one guy at 28..especially this year

We should take the best S and ILB with picks 24 and 28. But what do I know?

I know but if we keep saying it maybe it will come true ????? :(

I would LOVE to pick with the 24th then trade out of the 28th for two second rounders.

speaking of reaches, how about this for a senario

predraft pats trade 28 for two 2ndroudners, then take the 24 and a 2nd rounder for this year/ then maybe another 2nd or 3rd for next years draft, and trade up to #6 lol

They are going to package them to the Raiders for the #1 overall, and then take CJ. Raiders will then keep their fingers crossed that Quinn will drop to them, and they'll take Jarrett at 28 :D

NO ONE will sacrifice (2) twos for a late first rounder, you nutjob!! ;)

Depends on the point values of the picks.
Refer to this chart here:

Pick #28 is worth 660 points.

Therefore if you traded it for picks
# 54 - 360
and
# 60 - 300

That would be an even value trade. But because these values are approximate teams may be willing to compromise on the exact value, especially if they see someone they like at #28.

Are those Tampa's two picks?? I don't know, in this day and age, it just seems like DAY 1 guys are just too valuable to trade 2 for 1. It would have to be a guy you REALLY like, but after the first 5-7 picks, it is a mish mash. IOW, IMO, a 54 and 60 > 28.

I don't see the Patriots trading into the second round. They may trade into next years 1st round though. My reasoning is with the new CBA rules, you can sign late 1st rounders to a 5 year contract but 2nd rounders can only be signed to a maximum 4 years. Better value to keep a better player for a longer period of time.

Thanks for that reply. I really don't see it as much as the Patriots trading into the second, IMO, no one will be around to make that trade, so, IMO, Pats really don't have a strong "say" in that matter. Now, NEXT year is interesting. I have heard that some feel the upcoming draft is thin, or at least, not as decent as last years. With that in mind, are there thoughts about NEXT years draft(in terms of how strong it may be)? The 5yr. vs. 4 yr. deal makes sense. But still, you must find someone who REALLY has an itch for some player available at 28. IMO, that player could be any one of 20 or so players. IOW, no one at 28 is going to really make a GM's eyes pop out and say we HAVE to have THAT guy. I could be wrong, maybe some top ten does a free fall, but unlikely.

I see a run on CB's and Safety's right around the early 20's. It only needs one player to sneak into the first round to cause someone to slide. See Aaron Rodgers two years ago. If a team needs THAT one CB or safety, then I can see the Patriots trading either their 24 or 28 for a 2nd this year and a first next year.

You may be right, certainly if an early team throws a wrench, things can dominoe. Time will tell, in the end, I just don't see ANY 2 for 1, but what the heck do I know. Really interested to see how the draft unfolds. Certainly more exciting coming off the heels of victory. Is it me, or is the NFL taking it up a couple of notches in popularity. I see a banner year coming up for the League as a whole.

Cousins,

I can see a three way trade to get a better value for the #24 and #28 picks. As in above, I struggle with this stupid Trade Value Chart. It doesn't work well for all teams. I present a new three way trade that has been explored and whispered in part already. In some instances it's anti-Value Chart.

The teams involved:

The Browns, The Redskins (definitely two teams that have to get better, quick) and the Patriots because they are the only team in round one with two pics and with ten total pics in this draft. They can afford to move down.

The Browns have a dilemma. They want a franchise QB and Quinn is more ready with his Charlie Weis instruction, and more coachable than Russell. I don't care what the experts say. Look at Jeff George and his arm. Don't lead me down that path. Arm alone does NOT make a QB. More on that later.

The Browns are also desperate for an OT and a DE. It appears they can't get healthy everywhere at once..or can they?

The Browns also need a franchise RB too because if Quinn can just hand the ball off the Lewis and a kid named Petersen, Romeo Crennel's job status might improve. Why do I say that? A running attack will make the Browns a lot better and the QB will not be as much of a factor even if it is Frye. We know the Browns would like to take Petersen to get better now, but do not pass on a franchise QB EVER PLEASE! So what we have set up is a scenario where the Browns can have their cake and eat in to, with an AP on top.

Next, The Redskins who have many needs too. I do not think this Campbell is the answer at QB. Nice #2 guy maybe. The Skins need more talent and also need to get younger. With a number 6 in the first round and then not another until round 5, that will not get it done.

Finally, The Pats who have the luxury of two later first round choices at #24 and #28 that will produce some decent talent. But the players they are eyeing are in round two and three and why overpay?

Here we go:

The Pats trade first round pics #24 and #28, starting Pats OT Nick Kaczur (they have O'Callaghan and Britt who they just resigned) and reserve young 2nd round draft choice of a few years ago from LSU, DE Marquis Hill; to the Cleveland Browns for starting ILB Andra Davis (a Pats need, and has experience in the 3-4 like the Pats prefer) and the Browns 2nd round choice #36, and the Browns 4th round choice #104, and finally the Browns #1 draft choice in 2008. The Draft Value Board says the Browns numbers are 626 this year and if they have the 21st pick in 2008 (875) it will equal the 1,500 value points the Pats are trading. I am sure that if that pic is at 21 in 2008 and Romeo keeps his job.

The Browns get two immediate starters. Kaczur will be the LT to protect either Quinn or Frye. Hill is 6' 6" 300lbs, and has some DE on-field experience but wouldn't play over the Pats present talent on the D line.

Now the Browns get their franchise guy QB in Quinn. Mission accomplished! But they also get another prize. They trade the Pats #24 and the #28 pick to the Redskins for the Skins #6 pic and pick up RB Mr. Adrian Petersen. With Lewis only on a one year contract, it will still be a great luxury for Quinn in 2007 to have two quality RBs and Petersen develops in at a slower pace.

It gets better for the Browns. They now do not have to panic for a LT or DE in the draft. They have two young talented guys from the Pats that can start.

My Mock for their remaining choices are:

Round 3-WR Smith-USC-Should be a good combo at WR with Edwards, Jurevicious and "the other" Steve Smith who would be all decent for 2007 and beyond Quinn targets.

Round 5-CB Wade-TN-Nice productive, speedy corner. Not much depth there with injuries and losses in the CB roster. A need.

Round 6-G Santucci-ND- A need as well. Will start in the NFL. A familiar face for Quinn helps too.

Round 7-NT Toeaina-Oregon-Nice size backup for a year older Washington. Ted we still love you!

The Redskins get:

The Pats #24 and #28 from the Browns for the #6. Oh My, "The Grand Poobahs" of the all important "Trade Value Chart" says the Skins are getting gypped by 200 points! Yes, perhaps, but with one draft choice until round five, a no-brainer deal for the Skins. Too many holes for one choice to fill.

They have picked up a couple CBs in FA to fill those needs but they only had 19 sacks last year and the CBs can't cover forever out there. The D line was run porous. They also need a OG and some SS help. But now we come to the biggest issue. Is Campbell a starting NFL QB?

My Mock for their remaining choices are:

Round 1 #24-Beason-LB-Miami-A tackling machine who plays sideline to sideline. He can cover too. Great pic for the Skins.

Option 1a-Trade #24 to the Bears for OLB Briggs, This up or down the draft board deal was not working. aAn instant upgrade for the talent challenged Skins "D".

Round 1 #28-Spencer-DE/OLB- Versatility that is a luxury with a good sized, fast player who can play hand down or in reverse and can certainly rush the passer. Solves a major need.

Option 1b-Trade #28 to the Chiefs for DE Jared Allen. A super motor pass rusher. Contract dispute is festering with the chiefs FO. This kid is young and quick and could make up half of those 2006 Skins sacks by himself. Dan will "show him the money"! These two players together make the Skins defense immediately respectable.

The Skins have been allergic to draft choices the last few years. If so, these two young players above make sense and an immediate impact. Now add ILB Fletcher-Baker and some of the new CB depth they picked up, with a DT in the draft, the Skins would be tough. Now what about a QB?

Round 5 Zabransky-QB-Boise St.-Maybe the mentally toughest QB in the draft. He brings that intangible,. He's a winner. He can make things happen with his legs. He is also one of the smartest QB's in the draft. I say he's the #1 QB in D.C. by end of season. A steal here. Poise and smarts. A decent but not rocket arm. Montana?

Round 6 Wrotto-G-G.Tech- Versitile. Can play G and T and brings toughness to the Skins OL as well as athleticism.

Round 6 Alford-DT-Penn St. Under the radar quick DT who can make plays. Quick. Pleyed in a good system. Should help the pass rush and shore up the middle against the run.

Round 7 Newton-S/WR/QB-South Carolina-Great athlete who sacrificed his career to play many positions for (former Skins head coach) Steve Spurrier. Good size and smart enough to play those multi-positions. Will be tried as a SS. Emergency QB to save a roster spot?

Finally, the Pats. We get rid of the two first rounders (King says that there are only 18 true first rounders in this weak draft anyway) IMO there is decent mid round talent. We drop down to get our targeted guys and still pick up a possible number #1 high pick in 2008 (hey the Browns got two high first round top guys this year that they could not decide between, so it is not a bad deal for all concerned). The Pats get ILB depth and the Browns get two starters. Good trade.
If the Browns are higher than a 21st pick we win the big Trade Value Board game!

My Mock for the Pats remaining choices are:

Round 2 McCauley-CB-Fresno State-A need with size and speed. A value at #36. Belichick knows Pat Hill at Fresno and he will give Bill the real skinny on why this kid had an off year. Too much talent to not do well in the Pats system.

Round 3 Woodley-DE/OLB-Michigan-Excellent high motor, good speed, hard hitting pass rusher, who the Pats can groom to a Willie McGinest style player.

Round 4 Piscatelli-SS-Oregon St.-Big, fast and productive. Some don't like him. Just watch the tape please! This kid has speed, can cover, plays great in the box like Harrison. He'll intimidate!

Round 4 Henry-RB-Arizona-Speed, hands and size. Only started late at AZ but should have better mileage left than most RBs. Great back up for Maroney only he's bigger and faster. A sleeper pic.

Round 5 Denman-OT-Fresno St.-Another kid Bill B. can talk to Hill about. Rated the most underrated lineman in the draft. Can play left or right OT. They lose Kaczur and get this kid.

Round 6 Young-CB-Kent St.-One of the fastest CBs in the draft. Good size. Small school productive (look where Samuel came from, Central FL.?). A need.

Round 6 Newton-TE-Oregon St.-The annual Belichick TE selection. He might be the most complete TE on the Pats roster in the end. Good size, he can block and soft hands to catch. Not anywhere as fast as Watson, but a better blocker and actually better hands, and also better receiver than K. Brady.

Round 6 Bishop-ILB-Cal. Big, run stuffing ILB who's hobby it says, is "throwing OG off to the side". Not much coverage range they say, but...the kid had three interceptions! Maybe the best ILB run stuffer in the draft. A Ted Johnson replacement. A tough guy.

Round 6 Samardzija-WR-ND-One of those baseball pics that could work out for the Pats down the road as WR is not a big need in 2007. Weis can talk this kid into being a Patriot. Good size and production. The Pats can wait on him.

Round 7 Thomas-NT-Miss.CC-A 6' 4" 370lb kid that runs a 4.9 40 yard dash. He dominated in some games (Texas vs. The World game) . Good backup for Wilfork. If he just falls down he's a road block! Faster than some LBs. A phenom perhaps? Needs Pats coaching up and Pees can do it.

O.K.Cousins, Torch me!
