Chris Brown - backup RB

Is Haynes a FA? Answered my own question - yes, he is. But how bad is his knee injury? If healthy, signing him would be the old weakening an opponent while strengthening yourself philosophy.

Is Brown better than Faulk? How about Morris? I'm happy where we are at the RB position.

I think Chris Brown is better than Sammy Morris, especially the 25% of the time when he is not injured.

I also think we signed Sammy Morris. Shaddap.

In case the Pats are not able to land a decent RB in the draft I have started to look at the remaining players available as FAs.

Some Names
Chris Brown
Barlow
Stephen Davis
Dillion
Vernan Hayes
If Belichick had wanted any of these guys, he would have signed them instead of Sammy Morris. Ergo, Morris is our backup RB. Rmember, BB tried to sign Morris out of Buffalo, but he went to Miami.

michael 'burner' turner is the one

if i read the insider page correctly, turner is a ufa.
he's a cold-weather player, was drafted out of northern illinois.
he is bigger than maroney, faster, and he's been next to LT for 3 years. he knows how to run the rock in the no fun league.
remember he took some pretty good chunks out of our squad last year.

3rd round pick- Darius Walker.

Michael Turner? He's a RFA with a 1st and 3rd round tender.

We should have drafted Turner instead... but that was in the past.

A draft pick would be the better/cheaper choice.

I'd like Chris Brown as a back-up. He's solid, just can't stay healthy. If he's in the pink, bring him on.

Its foolish to think that the Patriots aren't going to carry more than 3 RBs. Especially where Kevin Faulk always seems to be injured half the season.

Heath Evans prooved to me that he's a mediocre fullback and less than mediocre running back. I believe he's back only because of his familiarity with the offense. The zone blocking scheme may help him with his blocking, but who knows. I'd prefer the Pats to have another RB on the team. Whether it be a draft pick or whether a free agent.

Quadrtine Hill is an interesting specimen who spent part of last season on the practice squad.

Morris was good enough to backup Ronnie Brown...don't see why he isn't good enough for us.

While I agree that Chris Brown is the best of the free agent bunch still remaining, I would rather see the Patriots draft somebody instead. Brown is an injury prone back whose style I think is too similar to Maroney. The Pats need more of a power, short yardage back.

I was a huge fan of drafting Turner when he came out... Now it looks like San Diego will be cashing him out for a 1st round pick or a 2nd round pick at a minimum.

They proably will carry more than three but it isn't foolish to think they might carry three because they have in the past carrried two RBs, three if you include FB. They already have 3 RBs, 4 including FB. So itis hardly foolish to think that BB satisfied his backup RB requirement with Morris.

The Pats may carry a fifth, but it will be a rookie, not another vet IMO.

Personally, I think the roster is so tight that if they sign another RB it means one of the current ones is gone. That would mean Faulk, and to talk about that is forbidden by one of the mods.

They will carry a FB and they won't carry more than 3 RBs is how I see it. Four total.

Totally agree... oh well though, the draft is just 2 weeks from now. This is one of the only things that I'm thinking about right now (as sad as that sounds).

I was under the impression that Morris was Patrick Pass' replacement. If that's true, then he represents a great upgrade. If he's Corey Dillon's replacement, then he represents a great downgrade. Another pure RB, like Maroney, is needed through either FA or the draft. And another 3rd-down back, at least for TC/PS, is also needed. Justin Griffith would have been the perfect signing; he's younger, faster, a better blocker, cleaner, and cheaper than Morris.

IRCC, Turner was still on the board when the pats selected cedric cobbs instead.
