Should any future Patriots QB wear #11?

Should we retire the Jersey number worn by Drew?,Do you think Kraft would even consider it?

I have mixed feelings,I would have said yes definately if he played here all his career but now I am not sure.

I can see us retiring ol' #80 soon but what about #11?

i think #54, 80, 12 should be retired when the time comes but im not sure about Drew...if i had to decide yes/no i would have to say no. He didnt play out his career in NE and lost his starting position...

tedy, troy, and tom ...they were/are the heart of this team...if theyr #'s arent retired id go as far as saying it was disrespect

I would say yes if he signed with us for one day to retire a patriot like emmit did a few years back for the cowboys...otherwise, no IMO.

You have to be really picky when retiring numbers otherwise in a few years you will have barely any left for the current players to wear. So basically, no, I do not think we should retire 11.

Oakland doesn't retire any. Al Davis said it's because all his players are/were great, something like that. So, last year, Hall of Famer George Blanda's #16 was worn by Andrew Walter. Oh, Davis is in the Hall of Fame too.

No, I don't think that we should retire #11. Not enough numbers and I think the guys that have played on this team while winning SB's (Brown, Brady, maybe McGinest, Tedy) should have their numbers retired before Drew's old number and even then I think only #12 will be retired.

If/when they get a "ring of fame" or something like that then I say put him up in that.

Retiring numbers is a stupid thing to do. Honor the number, the player and the era, but don't retire numbers. Then you have to go through the list of all the players that you think their numbers should be retired and soon you have 15 names (ie 15 numbers) to retire. This is especially the case when a team has won three Super Bowls in a short period of time and a few of the contributors have been to four with the Patriots.

Just honor Drew, lets not start retiring numbers please.

Useless homer eh? So tell me then using your logic would you say just do away with retiring numbers completely?

Why support any team? Pretty sentimental and illogical there.....heck, there were better teams when Bledsoe played and I haven't even lived in New England since 1985.

Why support any player? They're all just athletes after all, lets see Troy Brown play next year if he's not under contract. Using your "logic" why even discuss putting a player into the hall of fame? Hall of fame doesn't win any Super Bowls so you may as well just bulldoze that over because I'm sure parking space in Canton is at a premium.

Retiring a number isn't just for the player! It's for the people who supported the player over the years. What purpose exactly is retiring numbers if not to pay tribute to a special player and the fans that supported him?

Drew's # should be retired as a New England Patriot, he was the face and the hope of millions of fans for years and it IS the right thing to do to remember an era in New England sports history.

Only if we trade for Peyton Manning and we give him that number. It might
be the first back up to have his number retired. For Drew, no way.

I agree with those that say Bledsoe's number shouldn't be retired but we should definately have him honored somehow as a New England Patriot.

Floridaherb, you say retiring his number is the right thing to do to "remember an era."

What about the Super Bowl era? I love Drew, my post in his retirement thread shows why. However, if Drew's number is retired for the sake of remembering an era, then one could make the case to retire the number of everyone here:

Tom Brady
Troy Brown
Willie McGinest
Tedy Bruschi
Ty Law
Richard Seymour
Adam Vinatieri

As a fan, it's very easy to look at each of those players as a critical part of our Super Bowl wins and feel that we should honor them by retiring their numnbers. The Patriots have retired 7 numbers in the history of the team, and those players would double that number. Add Bledsoe, and that's 15 numbers retired from 1-99. It would be near impossible to field a training camp roster without duplicate numbers like in college, let alone stay within the rules of numbers and positions.

Again, I love Drew for what he did for this franchise. He deserves to be in the Patriots Hall of Fame. Again though, retiring his number IMO is not the right thing to do.

Interesting that only about 1/2 of the HOF members have their number retired.

IMO, Drew is no question a member of the Patriots Hall of Fame. He was the face of the franchise for the better part of a decade.

So long as he's in the Pats HOF I'm not sure I care if his # is also retired.

I rember hearing that David Terell when he was signed 2 yrs ago, wanted number 11 he was told no.. I think the number should be free to wear.. I mean the Bills were in no hurry to give that number to Rosco Parrish..

IMO, retired numbers go to players who defined a franchise. As much as I admire Drew, he didn't do that. That leaves us with the problem of Adam Vinatieri. Let's face it, next to Tommy and Brewski and Brown, no name is more identified with the success of the XXXVI--XXXIX dynasty. If I'm being honest with myself, as much as I regard him as a traitor for joining the c@!^s, he did help define those championships. I really want us to win one without him so I don't have to think about this.

I would assume that Drew meant a hell of a lot more to the Pats than he did to the Bills.

I'll have no problem retiring Vinatieri's 4.....as long as he retres a Patriot.

I am certainly angry with him but that doesn't mean I still don't love the Patriot version of him.
