I'm not Belichick or Pioli, but I'd take him. He knows the system, and he obviously knows how good he had it here. Sometimes it takes a while for the players to realize, it's just not all about the money. I hope they consider him.

I'm not Belichick or Pioli, but I'd take him. He knows the system, and he obviously knows how good he had it here. Sometimes it takes a while for the players to realize, it's just not all about the money. I hope they consider him.

I may be the biggest "it's not about the money" guy here, but I was glad for Patten. He was a basic nobody, not even a JAG, when we signed him in 2001. I think he may even have been out of the Arena league. He had one payday opportunity and took it. The Pats weren't offering a lot, unlike with Givens.

Good for Patten.

That said, there's no way he makes this team.

Two years in a row back in 2004/2005, 2003/2004 or 2002/2003 or whatever it was there were twin threads titled "THERE IS NO WAY DAVID PATTEN MAKES THIS TEAM".

The first year I was on the 'are you crazy? yes he does!' band wagon. The second year I was on the 'no way he makes the team' bandwagon. I was on the right wagon both times (you can synch the years by that fact, I'm too lazy).

You can never have too much depth on the shadow roster. Get him in, see what he still has - it never hurts.
