Dear Pats Fans,

I thoroughly enjoyed talking with you guys throughout last season even though I thoroughly did not enjoy the last occasion we did so.:)

Nonetheless, as I did then I still do now congratulate you and your team for the Pats great victory over the Bolts on our home-field in the play-offs last season.

And of course, I am excitingly and eagerly anticipating the second week of the upcoming season where we will officially pick-up where we left off last season's last conversation.

Looking forward to ........September's Game of the Month!

That was a classy post.
I look forward to the game as well. Your team has incredible talent. A loss like that on your home field was probably humbling to your team. It should help them get to the next level in the future

For my sake I hope it is not against the Patriots.

Good luck and stay classy San Diego.

Very humbling and emotionally draining as a direct result of being overly emotional and not so humble during the game. Suffice it to say that this season I expect the Bolts to display a lot less emotion while playing with a great deal of humble intensity on your home field.

Caryl,

Thanks for stopping by. Informed and informative fans from opposing teams are always welcome here. The Chargers are good, and are going to stay that way - Norv Turner or not - for a long time. Best of luck in weeks 1 and 3.

I hope you guys cut marlon macree. Had he knocked down that pass instead of catching it and trying to run, you guys would have hosted and probably beaten the Colts, and the Bears would have posed you no problems at all.

We have not and I can not say that he should have knocked it down only that he should have held on to it. As it is, that was just the culmination of several mistakes that your team, to its credit, took full advantage of all made.

And for the record, I do not include Marty's early game decision to forego a field goal as one of those mistakes but I do include the decision to go to a prevent defense at the end of the first half as the first major mistake.

Waht do you think of the Bolts ILB candidates?

Glad top play the Bolts early in the season before the new staff has all their stuff in place and the team comfortable with the new scheme. ;)

Caryl,

Welcome back.

What's the early spin out there on Turner?

As demonstrated last year we have great talent and very good depth at what is our deepest position. This season will feature at least one player Matt Wihelm known for special teams play moving into the starting line-up to replace Donnie "always around the ball" Edwards who was let go and we will hopefully not miss.

Caryl,

Welcome back.

Happy to come back despite last season's ultimate outcome.:)

Turner Trade Speculation has ran rabid in many different directions involving many different teams since the day after the SuperBowl with no clear cut team in the lead .:confused

http://forums.chargers.com/showthread.php?t=40756

Personally, I believe AJ will hold out for exactly what he as stated he wants in exchange for Turner while also hoping that no one steps up to the table to pay it.

And personally, I hope no team does either.:)

Re: Dear Pats Fans........September's Game of the Month!

Hey Caryl - welcome back - when you returned after your loss last year, you showed true class!!

Good luck this year and I hope you can survive the early part of the season as you try to get used to a whole new staff.

Waaay too much talent on your team to not win your division IMHO. Denver will be tough, as usual , seems Shanny has had a pretty good off season, but you guys can handle them. KC is Hermville, so no worries there and Oakland remains a joke.

Don't be a stranger, your a good guy man.

Re: Dear Pats Fans........September's Game of the Month!

Dear Pats Fans,

Now that the off-season active dust has more or less settled with the conclusion of this year's draft, I must say your team's off-season actions has been nothing short of spectacularly impressive. Here We in San Diego had taken some satisfaction in our belief that we at least have the best overall talent in the entire league and lo and behold your Pats have jumped up to take even that small consolation away.:(

But no problem since your recent personnel moves and in particular your move to obtain Moss only adds to the already growing prelude excitement for our forthcoming September's Game of the Month which will be played in even greater anticipation of a no doubt final fantastic showdown between our two teams in this year's play-offs.:)

Meanwhile, I thought you guys would hate/enjoy reading a few excerpts from an article in our local newspaper which appeared today and in which AJ Smith exactly expresses my answer to the headline question of................

Are Pats chasing Chargers, or the other way around?

Nick Canape
UNION-TRIBUNE
April 30, 2007

Question. Question. Question. Have the New England Patriots caught up with the Chargers? Have they passed the Chargers? Are they close to catching up with the Chargers? It seems as if they're trying. Hard.

While San Diego General Manager A.J. Smith entered the offseason bitterly disappointed with his team's playoff loss to the Pats but still encouraged by his bountiful orchard – his lone free-agent signing was one of his own, guard Kris Dielman – New England decided to shake NFL personnel trees.

Yesterday, before Draft Day II concluded, the Patriots struck a deal with the Raiders, acquiring provocateur/receiver Randy Moss to bookend Donte Stallworth, another free-agent acquisition for Tom Brady to play catch with. Joining them is a top free agent, linebacker Adalius Thomas, plus whatever draft choices they came up with over the weekend.

Al Davis normally would throw himself on his sword to have a player with Moss' gifts. And yet he got rid of him for a fourth-round draft choice. All this hubbub over an athlete who admits he takes plays off? Dan Fouts, guaranteed, never would have thrown a pass to this baby.

And yet the NFL neighborhood buzzes. Because Moss is a wide receiver, as is Terrell Owens, and, for some insane reason, they make headlines in our goofy sports world. They're wide receivers! Please. Somebody help me. If either of these two clowns were quarterbacks, they would have been pounding concrete years ago.

It now depends on what comes out of this draft – on both sides – and how Moss, not nearly as good as he was but still dangerous, meshes with the latest organization to take a chance on his wow skills alone. But, does the Patriots' roster match the Chargers' in pure football talent? No.
Still, it's not far removed, and Bill Belichick has three Super Bowl rings with New England as head coach and two others as Giants defensive coordinator. He's the best. Proven. The Chargers now have Norv Turner at the wheel, and though I applaud his hiring – I really don't know who this side of Kevin Gilbride could screw this up – Turner's Super Bowl rings came as Cowboys offensive coordinator, not as boss.

He still has to do it. And that's fair. He knows it.

So does Smith, who hired Turner and has put together almost 100 percent of this team. But he scoffs when asked if the Patriots have caught up with his bunch.

“I would never use the words 'caught up' when mentioned with New England,” he diplomatically was saying yesterday after concluding his fifth draft as GM. “What have we accomplished? New England has three championship rings. New England is established. And, the last time I checked, we were upset by New England in a playoff game.

“We have to catch up to them. Absolutely. There's the regular season and people make a list of your accomplishments. That's great. Then there's the postseason, and people make a list of your accomplishments. We're 0-2 in the postseason over the last three years and didn't make it two years ago. I look hard at 0-2, and it bothers me.”

September Can Not Come Soon Enough!

Until Then and After.....Good Luck!

Caryl

PS: Personally, I am not worried about Moss because the Bolts know how to checkmate him defensively and besides the one thing that can be counted on is that Bill and the Pats will cut Moss at the first inkling of any negativity in his words or actions which based solely on his track record will be sooner than later.;)

Should be a great game...

How do you feel about Norv Turner. I would be very concerned considering that he's been around the league and hasn't been too successful. I know as a fan, you have to look on the positive side. Just wondering how the fans view the change....

Will you be worried when Moss has 1,200+ receiving yards and catches 100+ yards personally against the Bolts? :) Is Craig Davis the answer to San Diego's passing woes or did he drop for a good reason, ie is he the next Mike Williams? Looking forward to the games man.

Good, because while you are taking care of Moss, Stallworth will be loping toward the endzone with the football under his arm.

We can only wait and see. However, it helps that the talent level he is now head coaching is unquestionably superior in virtually every aspect in comparison to the other teams he served as head coach; we have been running his same offense which he installed in 2001 when he served as the Bolts offensive coordinator; and I believe the team and fans are actually just as comfortable with our new defensive coaches (Cottrell and Rivera) if not more so than we were with Wade Phillips because the "prevent defense" will likely no longer be used regardless of the score.:)
