Per Reiss:

"The Patriots have matched the Broncos' free-agent offer to punter Todd Sauerbrun.

Last Tuesday, the Broncos and Sauerbrun agreed to a one-year contract that could be worth up to $1.4 million with incentives. The Patriots had seven days to match the offer, as part of a first right of refusal."

Interesting....I thought they were done with this guy....

hes got a very strong leg and really came on at end of season

gotta love the training camp competition

Catches me by surprise too, I figured Miller was our guy and thanks to Sauerbrun for bailing us out last year.

Can we trade him to Denver for a 2008 #6 pick or something ?

Didn't we just give Miller a 100K bonus? Thi seems weird. Maybe we'll trade him to Denver for a 6th or 7th now. That would be funny.

Well Miller is 37 (even for a punter that's getting up there). I think we end up with Miller again this year but it's good for TC purposes and it makes the Donks squirm a little.

The contract he signed with denver had a no-trade clause in it.

If that's true,that there's a poison pill,I'm mystified why BB matched.

Uh, maybe because there's medical concern about Miller's incapacitating injury? So what if we can't trade him - cut him if need be.

Good!!

Take that Shannahan, you want our guys, part with a draft choice, Otherwise, Skarooooooo you

i actually think sauerbrun has the stronger leg. i was very disappointed with miller last year.

thats surprising....up to 1.4 million for a back up punter...??

but i agree with all o fyou who think sauer has the stronger leg..

although i'd take miller of sauer, miller has the accuracy, and sauer has the power....what good is power when you punt the ball into the endzone for a touchback

Over a 45 yd gross/38 yd net average in the playoffs for starters. Ken Walter he is not.

It's fun being right.:D

Good competition. Let the best man win.

Who is the best man though? as much as I like having the only jewish 6 foot 4 punter in the world I think saurerbrun might be best especially given a training camp to get in sync with his punt team and with how BB likes to punt.

Last year Miller averaged 43 yards/punt with a net of 35.8
Last year Sauerbrun averaged 40.8 yards/punt with a net of 30.7

In 2005...
Miller avg. 45.1 yards/punt with a net of 38.3.
Sauerbrun avg. 43.8 yards/punt with a net of 38.

Looks like Miller has had the stronger leg as of late and I believe he is more accurate than roidboy as well.
