Will he play for us?

Well that is about 50 threads made in the last couple of days has been asking.

Will he play for us?

Asante has started to beleive his own hype. He is greedy and not worth a Clements type deal. I hope we deal him for a nice first round pick. Best case scenario a team is dumb enough to net us two first rounders.

Ps check the other 5 threads on this subject.

Not unless he gets a reality check.. He ain't the best corner in the league so he isn't going to be paid what he's asking... Pats have a good offer, he takes it or leaves it, but I don't think he'll be here, which sucks as@, because I like him as a player...

One option not listed on the poll is he sits out the season. Highly unlikely, though.

I was hoping we'd work out a deal but now it looks like he is going to be traded. The Pats won't pay him Clements money for 1 very good year.

You might post the patriot offer that Samuel has rejected before you post that he is greedy. Also, it could be that he will play for someone else for less than the final offer the patriots might make. Would that be greedy?

who cares.... You are ob trying to stir junk up. If he wants clements money he should not let the door hit him on the ass ohn the way out.

He wants $30 million first 3 years

Patriots apparently offering $6m a year

Asante Samuel was reportedly seeking a deal worth $30 million over the first three years while in long-term contract talks with the Patriots.

New England was reportedly offering a deal averaging $6 million-per-season. The sides have until July 15 to reach agreement on a contract.

On July 16th, Asante will be traded for a 2008 draft pick, probably a

#2 like Dre Bly. He will be praising Bill Belichick and the Pats for granting

his request for a trade as he counts his 80 million dollars.

We'll see how much interest other teams have in him with that demand...

And we'll be without a starting CB...

I went with play out the season under the franchise tag... Branch and Samuel are apples and oranges as a comparison... though I do admit "hopeful thinking" is part of my selection.

Logic takes a holiday when players begin to listen to their agents. While Samuel's tatoo should be happy to receive $500,000 per game as opposed to the $500,000 per season he was previously playing under, an agent wants a BIG payday - and will goad Samuel to holdout as long as possible.

No we are focusing on some realities. The patriots are under pressure to get a deal done before the draft. However, other teams may be willing to wait to see what they get before they deal. I think there will be several bidders after the draft. I think we have to add a corner in the draft. Hopefully, we will be able to get a pick for Samuel BEFORE this draft.

Cousin VJC,
I agree with your assessment. One year does not qualify him for Clement money and Blye has had many more serviceable years.
Besides trading him to move up a few spots is not a smart move. We still lose a pick. If we got a Carlos (if he was deemed savable, and who knows with the terrible situation in Washington. He might be better than appears) and move up to #6....I guess so..... if it was the best deal on the board.

This is the idea I like. Put the difference in escrow. Get Samuel to sign for the Blye deal (as an example in pricing) and if he puts together three comparable years to 06 in a row within a set reasonable average, he gets the Clement type cash or a close second. Let him back up his talent. Injury of course would be a factor too. If not the top CB he says he is, he becomes a pauper and takes the Blye deal and can struggles to feed his family. Both sides are protected.
Pioli has got to think of this, if the average price of a decent top CB increases within the next three years, the price may not be not that hard to take.
I only do not know if the NFL CBA would allow this.
