There has been talk of us taking a day 1 OT, mostly Joe Staley in the first round.

I don't think that the Patriots need to do that. I think that Light will be better this year than last. I think that he had not fully recovered from the broken foot he had in 2005.

But, if we do take an OT on the first first day I prefer Doug Free from No. Illinois over Staley. From what I've read (not seeing either for more than the bowl games) Staley has a weak lower body and can be knocked around by the bull rush. Free is bigger and has many of the same qualities as Staley and could develope into a solid LT given some time. We still have Light. Free has longer arms and biger hands than Staley and quick feet.

Free will probably go in the 3rd round. We might have to move up to get him but if we decide to trade down out of 28 and can, he should be there for us.

Thoughts?

If we are indeed switching to more of a zone blocking scheme, then left tackle becomes a need. I would prefer Joe Staley as he is extremely athletic and would excell in a zone blocking scheme. This would also allow Light to move to RT strenghtening a position that was weak last season.

Besides that, he looks good.:D

taking a tackle could be a possibility. If the LB, S, CB isn't available in the 1st round and the next best available player is OT, the Pats will pull the trigger. I watched video of Joe Staley and he does seem very athletic and good in pass protection.
