I havent seen Reiss write anything about this yet, so I thought I would offer this up. I guess Stallworth is officially #18, because the jersey on the proshop site has been blank up until now. Of course, this could be some website mistake, but for now I'm taking it as the real deal.

So our receivers with numbers that start with one are Jabar Gaffney, Bam Childress, Chad Jackson, Donte' Stallworth, Kelley Washington, and Kelvin Kight. Right?

yea i guess so....its funny i never could have remembered a reciever wearing a teen number in the 1980's and early 1990's. I wonder who started the whole trend. I know Moss made it big when he took 18 two years ago.

It seems like it's becoming more and more popular with a number of recent high draft picks taking them like Braylon Edwards, Roy Williams, Matt Jones, Chad Jackson, Larry Fitzgerald, and Santonio Holmes.

it used to be that wide receivers were obligated to take a number in the 80's as long as one was available

i believe it was just a few years ago that the NFL lifted this ban under one condition....that condition was that NFL receivers already with a number in the 80's could not change to a number in the teens unless he changed teams

you have seen this happen with players such as Randy Moss and Plaxico Burress, they change teams and have changed to numbers in the teens

Yes. The WR's with proper numbers are Brown, Caldwell, Welker, and Jonathan Smith. As a franchise, the Pats have retired more numbers than normal over the years. Bob Dee, for example, was an all-pro D-lineman from the sixties, yet he had a number in the 80's that was retired. Current 3rd string TE Matt Kranchick is also taking up a valuable number in the 80's for some reason.

The Dolphins, Raiders, Steelers, and Cowboys combined have retired a total of four numbers. The Pats have retired seven numbers. Then again, the Bears have retired a league-leading thirteen numbers.

Keyshawn Johnson is the one who started it back in '96 wearing #19.

I prefer the numbers in the teens. They just look more badass. I can't explain it, it just is.

You know what else looks bad ass?

Catching touchdowns

I hope he does that.

It's all in the interest of tightness. And the Pats are getting hip, yo. Dante catching touchdowns will be very tight.

Which means Sauerbrun won't be coming back. That was the only thing holding it up.

That's probably true but not suprising.
