Not a bad mock. I'm still not high on Beason but I can live with it if the Patroits take him.

But, I have no problem with the others as far as players. I think both Bishop and Hughes are too low. Maybe DeOssie too.

It seems like Beason kind of came out of nowhere. Granted, I don't follow college football very closely but a little while ago he wasn't even in the first round discussion and now some have him rated as the number 2 LB in the draft.

Sign me up for that thing. I'm not a huge fan of Hughes but at the end of the 3rd round, I'd be very happy with him.

NUT - I'm not sure why you want to trade up for Willis but not sit tight for Beason, there's not that much of a size different and Beason is an explosive hitter.

He is also played in the Miami two-gap D. Even though they run a 4-3, the front 7 have had a relatively easy time transitioning to a 3-4 in the past 5-10 years.

My favorite part is the throwaway at the bottom:

Note: PFW will be doing a draft blog, starting a few days before the draft kicks off. We’ll be posting our thoughts on everything draft related, including all the bad picks made by the Detroit Lions. Fans are welcome to participate by posting their opinions as well. The blog will be updated non-stop during the draft, so be sure to check it out. A link to the blog will be on Patriots.com, so everyone will be able to access it easily.

Mayock now has him #1. Willis who?

It is this simple. ILB has been a position that the Patriots has not been able to solidify since TJ's retirement. Willis is the most complete ILB out there. He has all the qualities that the Patriots look for in a player and has a big upside.

It's one of the most important positons on the defense. This team does not have many critical needs but this is one. Why not fill it with the best?

Having said that, I would not go up any further to get him than #11 to get him plus a third rounder. I think Beason could be good as well as Harris or Bradley. But, Willis is a close to a sure thing that you can get and we will have him for 6 years.

Who is Mayock and what the hell does he know about Bill Polian?

Russell came otu of nowhere to be #1 guy.

Timmons came out of nowhere

Houston, Ross,

some people arent expected to come out and do and they have the talent. beason is a great player..sideline to sideline..hard hitter.

Absolutely. It does happen. And the more I hear about Beason the more I like him.

If we ended up with that Mock, I wouldn't be complaining too much.

I don't like the Walker pick or the Robinson one. I'd rather the Pats take Chris Davis instead of Robinson. Robinson = Bethel Johnson.

I have a hard time when someone says the following: "Bishop is that big, physical linebacker the Patriots haven’t had since Ted Johnson retired." I guess they forgot about Seau. Also, how is Bishop at 239 lbs. equal to Ted Johnson and his 260 lbs?

I'm not sure what the fascination with Jon Beason is. I don't think he looks like any LB the Pats have ever had, or that will even fit with the Pats.

True, the Pats take guys they like that don't fit anywhere (Klecko), but gambling in round one isn't the same as taking a fourth round flyer with a guy like Klecko.

Can Beason play safely? Like Don Davis?

Still, the first round is the wrong place to take on a project like that.

I don't see how you equate Ryne Robinson w/ Bethel. RR was super productive (albeit in a small school), where Bethel was just always about potential. The only thing I see that that they have in common is their return skills. IMM RRobinson in the 6th> Bethel in the 2nd just in terms of value. I love Chris Davis, but he rates as a second rounder, and I don't see any way that he lasts until pick 91.

Bethel wasn't always about potential. At the time Bethel left A&M he was the school record holder in receptions and yards.

Maybe I am not giving Robinson enough credit and he can run better routes than Bethel. But, I'd rather take Chris Davis than Robinson.

Also, you are getting your Davis' mixed up. Craig Davis from LSU rates as a 2nd rounder. Chris Davis from Florida State rates as a 4th/5th rounder.

Space -
Beason is built very similarly to Tedy Bruschi. Bruschi is maybe a half inch taller than Beason. Maybe. And Bruschi, though he at 255 right after his stroke, has been playing in the 245 range. That's only 8 lbs more than Beason weighed in at the Combine.

I am not high on Beason, but to say that he's not built like anybody the Pats have ever had is just plain wrong.

As others have pointed out, though Miami plays the 4-3, they play a 2 gab version of it. And that is what allowed Wilfork to make the transition easier. Also, there have been comparisons of Beason to Vilma. And we all know that the Pats tried to trade up to get Vilma. As the WILB, Beason could be Tedy Bruschi Redux.
