Skins to make a move on Asante?

Profootballtalk reports that Daniel Snyder plans to make a call to the Pats about Samuel. Given they offered a pick swap (#6 for #31) in exchange for Lance Briggs, the site speculates that they might be interested in a similar deal for Samuel.

What do people think. This would put us in clear position to pick LaRon Landry (I wouldn't buy the Joe Thomas or Calvin Johnson talk). Or, we could move the pick down a few spots, pick up another 3rd/2008 pick, and get Patrick Willis.

Would you make the deal if Dan Snyder called?

There's so many ways you would go with it. Using it, trading up, trading down. But if I could trade Samuel and #28 for #6 I'd do it and deal with the best way to use it later. I would love to get #6 then trade down to #15 or so for a 2008 #1 and draft Willis.

Then we'd trade Samuel and #28 for Willis and a pretty good #1 next year (assuming an average team would again be average).

Unfortunately Shefter is usually right. There will be plenty of interest in a young CB who was second in the league in INT last year though.

I think people assume the Skins are interested in every big name player just by default, with out proof that they actually are interested.

This is very intriging but I feel that Asante is proving himself to be a very good corner. I know that there is a lot of talkk about how he's had 1 good season but he has steadily improved every year. I think that he will be even better this coming year and his play last year is something that has been missing since Ty Law left.

While LaRon Landry would be sweet to pick up, he's a safety and wouldn't fill the void left by Asante's dismissal. Who would step up to play in Asante's spot? Gay? Move Wilson back to corner?

This is kinda my idea with Patrick Willis too. Sure he would be a great pickup and fill a huge need but Asante's dismissal, I think, would be a major blow to the secondary.

I think that the Pats let too many guys walk and if they resigned more of their guys they would be almost unstoppable. I am tired of seeing players walk out the door. I thikn draft picks are valuable but not as valuable as Asante's play last season.

A franchise tag is worth 2 #1 picks.

You could argue trading picks from 28 to 6 is worth a mid 1st round but still only 1.

If washington thinks Asante is worth taking at #6 in the draft. The we should get it straigth up.

Saints are team of concern as are the Jets

The Saints really need a corner. and pick right before out 2nd 1st round pick in the draft.

They would very likey offer us this years 1st, and if they beleive they are good perhaps next years as well.

The Jets need a corner and Mangini knows Samuel. The Jets also pick between our two picks this year so they probably are willing to give us this year's #1 for him.

Rodgers, yes, Springs, hell no.

The Skins gave up #13 in 2003 to get Peerless Price. At this point, I think most would consider Samuel more valuable than Price was back then.

IF the Skins are interested, they would definately try to give the Pats Springs. Why would they need Springs, Smoot, and Rogers, then pick up Samuel? Logically, they picked up Smoot, so they won't move him and the fact that the Pats had no interest in him two months ago means they won't have any interest in him now. Springs was rumored to be moved, but if he is, it is more likely by way of a release since they have gotten very little interest in him.

So that makes Rogers and that is the only corner they are happy with as of late. Patriots would more likely want Rogers out of the bunch, but I see him more as a cover 2 with decent man to man skills.

About the whole "a franchise tag is worth 2 first round picks", it just isn't happening. There are a select few in the NFL that are worth 2 first round picks and Samuel isn't one of them. Peyton Manning. Tom Brady. Maybe a Steve Hutchinson or Jerry Rice in his prime. And those picks would have to be low round picks (or potentially low round picks in a future draft).

I admit, the Pats have been lucky to get what they have in the past in trading for first round picks. Drew Bledsoe for the Bills first? Deion Branch for a first? I thought those teams over paid, but I'm not complaining.

This is all so ridiculous, is there any viable proof that the Redskins are even interested in Samuel ? Besides the rumors running rampant here ? Just because they were the only team making a trade offer to the Bears for Briggs, doesn't mean they are interested in Samuel.

How about the Pats #24 and #3 plus Asante for #6 and Carlos Rodgers.

Carlos Rodgers was the #9 pick in the draft in 2005.

It's not from PFT,but from the sports reporter of the
Washington Times.

What's being overlooked,here,is the focus totally on Asante Samuels.

What the 'skins desperately need is a pass-rushing DE for their 4-3 defense.This is what they are looking to draft.

Now,lets put Jarvis Green into the equation and this scenario becomes much more viable.

Green is under contract,and though valuable to the
Patriots,he is not essential.

He would be very attractive to the Redskins and if
the 'skins make a call about Asante,I'll bet they will
also ask about Jarvis Green.
