This guy really has me puzzeled. He has great triangle numbers. He was a shut down corner in 2005. Last year he played well until he got a concussion. After that his play ws not very good and he seemed to play 'careful" That is understandable to me.

He is said to be smart, good character, tough and competitive. He had his helmet taken away by the med staff after his concussion but still demanded to play.

But this from PFW 'his confidence was shaken playing for a tough minded, very demanding coaching staff". Does that mean he would not do well with the Patriots staff?

Things fell apart at Fresno this year and Hill decided to play underclassmen the last two games. That again is understandable.

If he is around at #24 or #28, I would be very tempted to take him if his sensitivity/confidence thing can be explained.

Does anyone have more information about this "confidence" issue with him?

Re: What is is about McCauley??

From the variety of sources I've been reading it seems like a combination of confidence and his technique (especially footwork) getting screwed up.

The type of coaching staff he would require, according to P(ro)FW is something to consider but with that as a concern, he's my #3 CB behind Hall and Revis. If he were a slacker or didn't give a damn that would be different but, by all accounts, that's simply not the case.

I love everything else I've read about him in several places. But, confidence is an important thing that a CB needs. They have to be able to forget about the last play immediately.

Does he need constant building up? Technique can be taught and he is said to be smart, so that is not a big concern.

That wouldn't bother me if he needed constant positive reinforcement - each team and position has different personalities and the coaches need to be able to handle different temperaments.

What would be a show stopper for me would be if he doesn't take to coaching well. He could be smart and well intentioned and hard working but just not respond well to coaches telling him that he needs to get better at this or that. There's a personality group out there (I know, because I'm in it) that wants to do well and works hard enough to do so but simply doesn't like to be told what to do. They know the other person is right but doesn't like to be told anyway.

I am NOT saying that's McCauley, I have no clue, but that's the only thing I wondered about when P(ro)FW said what it did about his reponse to Pat Hill's staff's coaching.

I like him personally, but do admit that he will either be a Ty Law type homerun, or a Chris Canty bust. Both players were taken in roughly the same spot the Pats pick. (I beleive Law was #24, not sure)

Actally Canty was short and dumb. McCauley is tall and suppose to be smart. But I see your point, boom or bust.

If we do draft him, I have faith that BB & Scott will have checked all this out, backwards and forwards.

1a.Leon Hall
1b.Chris Houston
3.Marcus McCauley
4.Darrelle Revis
5.Josh Wilson

BIG DROP OFF

Aaron Ross
Eric Wright
Johnathan Wade
etc.

is how i see it

I don't think it is a lack of confidence. I just think that he was playing cautious, so he would not get hurt. You have to remember, he was on a piss poor team that had no chance of going anywhere. I think that K.O he suffered woke him up to the possibility of suffering a serious injury.

Everything to lose, nothing to gain situation.

Does that show poor character? Maybe. But it is easy for us to "armchair it", and say that (in his position) we would have played hard regardless of record. But something tells me that with a chance to go to the NFL on the line, our thinking might change a little bit.

As has been said numerous times... It will all depend on what Pat Hill says.

I'm high on him, I think he will be a very good corner in the NFL.

Also, they moved him around a lot. He played both CB positions, and both Safety positions. He admitted himself that he tried to do too much. He probably got burned out trying to cover everyone's mistakes. He also got a concussion, and then seemed to play a little safe. It should be restated that he was great in '05, but stayed for his senior year then fizzled.

Macauley might be the most mysterious player in a draft full of mystery men. (Quentin Moses runs second.) The whole Fresno State program pretty much imploded last year and there are plenty of question marks around their players. I do worry a little bit about a corner who, well, worries. That's a position that calls for a co*ky, aggressive attitude and a short memory.

i think if we bring him in we should try him at free safety aswell

6. Wilson
7. McCauley

Hall has all the athletic ability toughness, physical play, and intellect you look for when it comes to CB, and he's also got some size. I just wish he had done better against top level WR's. Also, he seems a bit more of the zone CB, than man-to-man CB.

I'll put my list like this for now:

1. Revis (I think he plays physical like hall, but is better at man, and has done better against top level receivers.)
2. Hall (Read above)
3. Houston (I wish his run support was better, could be a one year wonder.)
4. McCauley (If not for his questionable '06 he'd be higher in the list.)
5. Josh Wilson (very physical and tough, and good at run support. If not for his size Wilson would be in the top three.)
6. Ross (He's a better PR than CB, and not that experienced as a starter, not that physical, and could be somewhat of a one year wonder.)

I'm not puting Eric Wright on my top 10 list because of these weaknesses:
"Only has two years of experience...Takes too many risks in coverage...Raw and he still needs a lot of technique work...Not overly physical...Average as a tackler and against the run...Battled an injury as a junior and durability is a concern...Has some pretty major character questions that will need to be looked into carefully."

Yea, McCauley's good at Safety. Maybe he'd be the better pick over some of the top FS's, since he's a better CB then them, and he's got pretty good Safety skills.......?

If we were just going by talent he'd be right up there, but in '06 he didn't play up to expectations. We'll have to see what happens. It would be nice if he falls to the third round because of his '06 performance, and NE can grab him by trading up.

complete opposite bro.

Hall is 1 of the best man to man corners in the draft

that scouting report on Wright is different than many. Wright put up great #s, hes a complete corner. does take chances but doesnt Asante?

:rocker: Exactly, whether he was playing cautious or was shellshocked after getting his bell rung something got inside his head. Considering the mind games in the NFL I'll happily take a little big man like Josh Wilson over a guy I watched pulling up in the Senior Bowl. If raw talent/poor technique is what people want, Jonathan Wade has it in spades.

What I said about Hall is correct. I personally watched about 4 Michigan game's, and he didn't do as good against the best college receivers.

Also, it's not the playing ability of Eric Wright that freaks me out, it's the being arrested for suspiscion of rape, and the extacy being present in his room.

everyone calls Hall the best man to man corner so idk where your coming from saying hes more of a zone guy

I guess the question is, did he have a great 2005 because he had Marshall playing the other corner?
