what kinda compensation would we get for samuel if he were to play out hte year with the franchise tag and walked as a FA...I know Givens was 5 and he made what 4.5/yr and was injured. If samuel gets close to 10m/yr what kind of compensation would we get.

Ideally...id really like a team to trade us their 1st round pick straight-up. then we can draft a replacement straight-up and worry about other positions.

Even more Idealy - we get him long term for a reasonable price

Best case would be a #3, you can't get a comp pick higher. If not, a #4.

If Asante gets any where near what he expects and he plays most of the year with his new team, then it would be worth a guaranteed third round pick to us... provided that we lose more qualifying free agents than we gain. If we pick up more qualifying free agents than we lose (i.e. FAs who play more than ~$800K/yr), we won't get any compensatory picks.

If Samuel isn't a Patriot, we won't be getting a compensation pick for him because there is NO WAY he leaves unless it's a trade, IMO.

Nonsense. If Asante plays 2007 under the franchise tag and records a mediocre year, there is no way that BB shells out $9M to franchise him in 2008.

The big question right now is whether or not 2006 was a one time event. A year fro now we'll have a pretty good idea.

Assante has had one real good year, lots of ballhawking skills pretty good coverage, but prior to that was a cog in this system. Remember at the beginning of the year, Tom Curran said he was essentially a nickel back playing full time. Had a relatively good year, should play for the Pats next year even if under the franchise tag, it comes out to something like 485K per game.. fool to sit out. Will diminish his value.. and overall lessen any contract he will get.

Or we can trade him for two 1st round picks. Doesnt he have the exlusive tag on which means a team can match the franchise tag offer but they have to give up 2 first rounders.

Bingo..Asante is getting yanked aorund by other teams..."we want you real bas but we are not going to give up 2 first round picks" so Asante..you really aren't worth what the other teams think you are worth....

what tom curran thinks or says means absolutely nothing
