Detroit would make the best possible trade for Asante,We could grab its #2 pick this year with the best wideout to come out in years Calvin Johnson or the Best D player in 2007 in Laron Landry and deal with a so so secondary like we have been able to do for the past several years.

Next year we would then almost guaranteed get a top 10 pick again with Detroit expected to be a punching bag in the NFC again this year.

A trade for Samuel MUST be with Detroit IMO.

Of course its only if Asante finds no way he wants to return here, otherwise keep it as-is

Is Matt Millen stupid enough to do this? He might have gone for the bait if Asante were another wide receiver... lol

He IS stupid enough to fall for this deal...From what I have heard and read about Detroit is they have no real true 1 need and would be willing to give up the #2 spot for multiple picks but have yet to hear for 1 good starter on a good team..That may be a difference but I don't know..I do know they could use a known NFL better than average player right now,Not extra rookies

I don't think he is that stupid. Question is what is a seasoned CB worth on a draft value chart? Could we package Asante and our 24th for the Lions #2 and 2nd rounder this season? Keep dreaming if you think someone is going to give us two first's for Asante.

Why would Detroit even consider this possible?

What do you mean "It must be with Detroit" What, only their first rounders would be good enough to let Asante skip out of town? I'd take Dallas' or Tennessee's 2007 first, and be happy. Three first rounders in one draft?

Honestly, isn't Samuel a product of the system just a little bit? I'd be happy picking someone like Revis with that pick. Honestly Samuel really only had one good season, so I would be perfectly happy getting a first rounder for him.

Just emagine all the different player combination's NE could land if they had an additional first rounder. NE could stock this team with top notch talent for the next five years, just with those three picks.

If you got a first and a second for him it would be insane, and a no brainer.

Also, I wouldn't want the second overall pick. The contract required to sign that player would be to much.

I'll take the Titans first rounder and be happy.

Because they ARE Detroit - When was the last time Detroit did anything good for their team in FA or the draft?

Can you say Barry Sanders in the 80s maybe as the last best move they made?

This is not a Smart Patriots/Steelers/Colts organizations we are talking aobut here..Thats why they get a top 10 pick just about every year and that player ends up stinking on the field,Roy Williams is a lone exception lately.

Boy that Damian Woody signing turned out well for them over the years for example

I'd gladly take a 1st and a 2nd from any team picking lower than us. I'd be ok with just a first as long as it was in the mid to late teens. Lower I'd be thrilled.

Alcohol is a really cool thing . . . it makes you say things that look really silly, though :D

If it were with Detroit it won't be for this years first. But I could certainly see us getting this years 2nd rounder and hopefully next years 1st. That would be blockbuster in the sense that their 2nd is 34 which is very comparable to a 1st rounder. Add next years first and we may benefit big time.

With a team like Detroit I think we'd be looking at a #2 this year and next.

If we got Detriots 2nd this year and their 1st next year it would have to go down as one of the biggest swindles of the new century. I have confidence in BB but he'd have to pull a serious jedi mind trick to make this happen.

If we got Detroit's 2008 #1, I wouldn't dare ask for anything else. That, alone, would be a steal.

Would likely be a top 7 pick at worst...No way do I see Detroit any better than a 6-10 team this year - Their secondary just like thier WRs core will suck unless they accept our offer of course :D

Roy Williams is always a threat and Mike Furrey impressed me big time last season. Their not an elite wr core by any means but I wouldn't say there wasn't talent there. They signed Mcdonald from the Ram's who should help out as a possesion receiver.

Detroit's best chance to become better than a condemned poor team year in and year out is drafting a QB with thier first pick and hoping he does well and drafting one this year would be a start on that road to possible success..

Taking Calvin Johnson is a waste unless they can pick up a decent NFL veteran QB now beforehand if there is any worthy ones left.If not Jamarcus Russell and Brady Quinn have what it takes at least based on college levels to become a great QB in this league.

They need to take that chance - Quinn would make an excellent 2nd pick IMO but I think they go elsewhere unless Calvin is drafted #1 in which I think they grab Russell at #2

Somewhere this thread is being posted over at a detriot board and they are laughing at us..

The offseason is the only time you ever see a lions fan laugh :singing:

Thanks for that Sebman. Very handy. Now, would you mind repeating the whole exercise for Cleveland. Would help me out enormously in the name your own team draft. ;)
