I've seen this posted a few times.. Why do people want to trade an established CB for a Safety? Considering this is a deep draft in Safeties and we have needs at other positions (corner), I think that would be a horrible move..

And this isn't even bringing into the factor that the #6 pick gets 15 mill guaranteed..

Because Wilson is in the final year of his contract, Harrison is old and fragile, and Sanders is merely adequate. And also because Asante will get quite a bit of guaranteed money as well, but for just a single truly excellent season...

Springs is in the middle of a contract dispute. Rogers slumped. And here's a neat quote for you to consider, "Last year, we felt we got hurt with our depth at corner," Gibbs said. "You don't want to make the same mistake twice."

Minnesota needs a QB badly - No way they give up a #1 for a CB - QB is a major concern..All their QBs suck - Unless someone unexpectably takes him before they get a shot then Brady Quinn will be a Viking come late April.

Mr. Kraft has said that the late first round is where the best dollar value comes from, who is there at no. 6 to really be worth a mega- contract to the Pats? Paying two first rounders would be very expensive when you add in that high a pick. Now, if the Pats knew they could work a deal to trade out of the first with the pick - maybe a number two this year and a first next year - then I could see them swapping Samuel and 24 for Washinton's no. 6, but I don't see them coveting that high a pick this year. Calvin Johnson is the only one who seems to a be sure thing worth the big bucks high draftees get and he will be gone by no. 6.

You don't trade Star Corner Backs for draft picks, especially picks that are going to cost you almost as much as the player.. Their is no value. Second, Corners in the NFL are a premium, Safeties are not..

Lets worry about this year. Right now, We have Wilson and Harrison. We could use one of our #1 picks on a safety.. A draft that is deep in them.

Landry at 6 would not be worth it to us. The only thing I would guess that we would want at 6 is a falling Calvin Johnson (which won't happen) or Gaines Adams if he was a sure thing to make the switch to 3-4 OLB, and that isn't a guarantee either. I don't want to move Samuel at all, though having 3 First Round picks this year and 2 next year sounds intriguing. But those are what they are, just draft picks, while we have an established CB who is a playmaker.

You missed the statement where this draft is extremely deep at Safety. Landry is but ONE player. The Pats could get a player only half a step behind Landry and get better value later in the first. There are other players like Sabby Piscatell and John Wendling who could be just as good as Landry, but need more refinement.

While I am not as high as some people are on Samuel (his hit first/tackle second mentality in particular), the Pats believe that he is either a Top 5 CB or close to being a top 5 cornerback. Its why they franchised him. So, yes, he'd fall into the premium type player.

As for Hobbs, Scott, and Gay, you're right. They aren't premium yet. Hobbs looks like he is on his way. Scott is a journeyman and Gay could be a good player if he stays healthy. The problem is that all 3 of them have had health issues the past 2 years. Scott with his shoulder. Hobbs with his wrist. Gay with his ankle and then hamstring.

Also, it should be noted that the Pats think highly of Gay, otherwise they wouldn't have slapped him with a 2nd round RFA tag.

I think that the Pats are perfectly willing to play out the year with Asante on the Franchise tag to see how Gay does. If Gay develops, then they could be willing to Franchise him again and trade him next year.

I am of 2 minds about trading Samuel. On one hand it would be foolish because they could let him play out the Franchise tag and then trade him next year. On the other hand, if someone like Tampa came to the Pats with an offer of 2 2nds this year and a 2nd next year of #28 and Samuel for 2nds and a #1 next year, the Pats would be foolish to pass it up. But they would have to make the deal AFTER the drafted a corner they felt could step in.

While there might be some growing pains early on, I think that the Pats have a defense that could help minimize those growing pains. Especially for a pick like Revis.

Now, the Pats would also have to pick up a 2nd youngster like Usama Young as well because we all know the Pats need depth at Corner as well as safety.
