The real question is, who's the better holder?

Ken Walter...

Considering Sauerbrun doesn't hold I'm going to go with Miller.

Re: Broncos agree to contract with Saurbrun; Pats have 7 days to match

If we don't match, do we have some draft pick in return ?

None at all.

None at all.

Sauerbrun would go into the compensation equation and, right now, we don't stand to gain anything.

Re: Broncos agree to contract with Saurbrun; Pats have 7 days to match

It may depend on Miller's health as well as how much the contract is.....and how good the 2nd year kickers are and...I would love to keep Miller..but?? The injury..how bad was it..

Re: Broncos agree to contract with Saurbrun; Pats have 7 days to match

Que? Much better?

Career numbers

Miller:
43.1 average
35.9 net average
247 kicks inside the 20
101 touchbacks (which isn't a good thing)

Sauerbrun:
44.0 average
36.0 net average
250 kicks inside the 20
102 touchbacks

I'm not going to stand here and say that Sauerbrun is the much better punter either. I do however prefer Sauerbrun's leg strength over Miller's.

OK. I should have been more specific. Miller was the better punter last year, even taking into consideration his injury.

I think that its interesting that Miller has 247 kicks inside the 20 on 747 punts while Sauerbrun had 250 kicks inside the 20 on 842 punts.

One thing you missed is that Miller has only given up 4 punt returns for TDs while Sauerbrun has given up 8.

Of note is that prior to the Minnesota game, Miller was the best punter in the league and the Pats punt coverage was only allowing something like 5 yards per return. And it went up to that because of the Buffalo game. Prior to Buffalo, it was hovering around 1.3 yards per return.

Thank you. Also Sauerbrun also is a 3 time pro bowler. Milller once .:snob:

Who cares about the friggin Pro-Bowl. That means NOTHING.

Sauerbrun STUNK last year in the regular season for us. 25 yards per punt return? All because he thought he knew better than the coach.

The only PLUS I can see of having Sauerbrun on the team is as a reserve kicker. Though we have one of those as well in Welker.:p

Re: Broncos agree to contract with Saurbrun; Pats have 7 days to match

The fact that Saurbrun does not hold sways things towards Miller IMHO. As long as the Pats feel he is 100% healthy.

I do hate giving the Broncos anything though, even if it is only a punter.

Maybe we should match the offer, take two into camp and screw Denver. Or, match it and then they can give us #6 or something.

Re: Broncos agree to contract with Saurbrun; Pats have 7 days to match

Ken Walter...
That settles it for me.

Re: Broncos agree to contract with Saurbrun; Pats have 7 days to match

when i think of roid-boy i think of 50 yard punts with 20 yard returns. maybe I'm just suffering from selective memory here, but I'll stick with Miller's 40 yard, no return punts.

. 25 yards per punt return? All because he thought he knew better than the coach.
He kicked 2 regular season games for us and the opposition had 4 returns. He did screw up on the Pac Man punt and that that's what screws up the average. The first game it was for 0 return average. He is 3years younger than Miller. Let's sign him and let him and Miller battle it out. BB loves camp competition. Best man wins . Who can argue with that.

Re: Broncos agree to contract with Saurbrun; Pats have 7 days to match

Right now, even if we think we would rather have Todd punting than Josh, it is pointless to say whether we should match because we don't know how much the Donks offered him. But Reiss reported it is only a one year deal. Also, we take a $307K cap hit if we cut Miller, per Miguel.

Re: Broncos agree to contract with Saurbrun; Pats have 7 days to match

Match smatch, the Pats did their dirty work by making the Donks sign Sauerbrun to a contract they figure the Pats wouldn't want to match. So Denver uses a little more cap space than they would have had to otherwise. It may not be much more, but every dollar counts and the Pats twisted a few extra out of the Broncos.

Re: Broncos agree to contract with Saurbrun; Pats have 7 days to match

If the Pats don't keep Miller, then the terrorists have won.

Re: Broncos agree to contract with Saurbrun; Pats have 7 days to match

Per John Clayton:

Sauerbrun's deal is reportedly 1 Yr/$820K (Vet Minimum). There are $600K in incentives, a no trade clause and clauses that prohibit the franchise or transition designation being used on him after this season.

His agent, David Canter, has said he prefers Denver because Josh Miller is already in NE, but he will be happy no matter if the Pats match or not.

I imagine the Pats will let him go and keep Miller, a good guy who has done a good job with them.

Perhaps they will match just to have them battle it out and keep the best guy in camp. Or, less likely, maybe we can trade Denver Miller for a late round, conditional draft pick in 2008. I doubt Denver would go for that but you never know.

Re: Broncos agree to contract with Saurbrun; Pats have 7 days to match

doesnt matter who we take and who we dump, pats wont punt once this year

and we have welker...he does everything

Re: Broncos agree to contract with Saurbrun; Pats have 7 days to match

Let's just draft a punter and end the debate. :p Happy Gilmore is on btw. Funny movie, even if it doesn't relate at all.
