Pats are on the clock

I would say Carriker is the best bet there. Though, if the Pats were in that position, they would be looking at a trade down and getting the most they could for it.

with carriker on board i would throw my tv out of the window, if i were a patsfan and the draft runs like this. woodley doesn't have 1st round value for sure and merriweather has too many character issues to spend a first round pick.

i'd take carriker in a heartbeat at 24 and with #28 michael griffin (or aaron ross, if griffin is picked by the eagles)

How come some people like Aaron Ross in the first round? He's not that good.

Dryheat-Cousin,
Would you trade 24 and 28 with Atlanta for their one and grab Willis?
Too much?
Or would you swap the two for the Atlanta pick. Move up to SF for their one and a three so we get another pick?
I think Willis is by far and away the best LB but two ones maybe too much.
DW Toys

No. I'd rather have Carriker than Willis, and certainly would rather have Carriker Plus Another than Willis. I'd take Carriker and David Harris in half a heartbeat.

I love Willis' game, I think he's the best linebacker in the draft, but I think it's a coin flip whether he'll be productive enough in the Belichick 3-4 to invest two first round picks in. I think he belongs as a Mike in a 4-3.

I agree that Carriker is the best value here I had to look twice to make sure I was reading this right. Merriweather and Griffin are good choices also.

24. Carriker/Griffin
28. Woodley/Merriweather

In this situation I think the best value at 24 would be:
Carriker then Jon Beason then Joe Staley then Michael Griffin

at 28 the best value would be:
Staley then Harrell then Griffin & Meriweather then Gonzo.

The overall best value in this situation would probably taking Carriker with 24 then trading 28.

I'd trade 24&28 to move into the teens, and pickup a second, but I wouldn't trade both first for one high first. You're not only using two first on one player, but it's also not very cap friendly. As I pointed out before the player taken at 8th overall, or 9th overall will likely have a larger contract than both players taken at 24 & 28 combined.

I wouldn't even do it for Landry.

I went with Carriker. I'll let you know how the next 3 picks play out. At the pace this thing is going that could be a couple days from now.

Trade down into the 2nd, hoping to pick up Meriweather or Spencer.

Yup in this mock situation he should hope for:
Meriweather, Woodley, Spencer, Herrell, Wilson, Staley, Sears, or Gonzo in the second. Maybe Leonard as well. This brings something up, I really like the second round this year.

sebman,

I agree. Wish we didn't give it up (2nd rounder) to Miami. hopefully trading both picks for a teen in the first and a second rounder.

24. New England- bakes781 Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska
25. NYJ- J-E-T-S 1083 - Aaron Ross, CB, Texas
26. Philadelphia- porky88 - Greg Olsen, TE, Miami (FL)
27. New Orleans- BJames1156 - Marcus McCauley, CB, Fresno State
28. New England- bakes781

SamBam votes for Staley. I think it is the easy choice.

Screwed up taking Carriker...he's the 4th DE? Great. Big need there.

Now you want to take Staley, who would be the 5th OT? Admittedly he'd be a good LT, and ours are so-soish...but then you have to trade or cut a couple guys. They just signed Britt who was the SEC OL of the year and was supposed to be very good. Maybe Staley will turn out to be as good as Britt.

At some poitn you have to draft NEED, rather than just stockpile players who even if good, won't see the field much because of there being so many guys ahead of them.

Oh, I get it. I should just waste my pick on a safety , or CB that most years would have a second round value. Carriker would be my 2nd rated DE after Gaines Adams. Staley would be my top rated O lineman. You pick the talent not the need in the first round especially.

Hughes from California or Staley and I would be elated!

Got to be Beason at 28. Carricker was a bad pick. Beason at 24 and Griffin at 28 would been a great draft.

How can Carriker be a bad pick?

excellent value.

I don't follow your thinking. Why would you want Griffin at all? He tests well, but he also "led" his secondary (which has 3 supposed 1st day "talents") to the 90th best ranking in college football last year. I wouldn't touch any of the Longhorns db's. Carricker was a great pick. We should be so lucky.

Unless the right DB is available at this spot I'm thinking Woodley
