Ted Ginn's days as an elite prospect ended about two months ago. To mention him in the same sentance as Johnson is irresponsible.

No offense to you, Drew, because I know you're just passing along info, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is old analysis....like before the combine.

Who is their source? I think there are exactly 3 guys who know where the real intrest gauge is. It very well could be that McDaniels and the new WR coach love Gonzalez. They might even ask real nice for him to be drafted.

But when it comes down to it, Scott and Bill are the one whose opinion really counts, and they are not talking to anyone.

We think they're inclined to keep each of Caldwell, Gaffney, Washington, Jackson, and Brown.

They'd have to really love a guy to add him to the mix, because he'd be taking a roster spot from someone else they'd really like to keep.

I was very high on him. But, Gonzo dropped off my list after all the FA WR signings. He will be a very good NFL reciever. I had the Patriots drafting a WR in the later rounds, which is exactly why they will take Gonzo in round one.

Yea, he's always been on my short list of WR's for NE as well. His short shuttle and three cone were awsome and I liked him as a receiver, more than I liked Ginn. When I watched OSU games I thought he was their best receiver.

I wouldn't mind Gonzo Jr. at all. I think he'll be a money player in the NFL. Drafting a WR in Round 1 will either mean:

1. CJax destined for PUP for sure, possibly IR.

2. Caldwell or Gaffney or Washington, one or more is gone

or, less likely, IMO

3. Troy is retiring.

Would likely be #2. What sucks is that the Pats have put themselves in a situation where they have 6 guys, but one is likely retiring this year, and then four of the rest have contracts that essentially expire after this season.

So they are in a spot where they need another guy locked up longterm, but don't really have the roster room to keep that guy without losing one of the other 5.

The article is dated April 1st though, and I STILL think everyone is making too much of these WR signing which are essentially one year deals with big escalators. All we have locked up is Welker pretty much.

I hate to get into this again, but BB didn't pick up Welker, Stallworth and Washington this offseason because he likes Gaffney and Caldwell. I think they'll be gone if the aforementioned trio display an ability to pick up the offense over the next few months.

Washington, Gaffney, Caldwell, and Brown are all iffy for next season. If we apply the unwritten rule that WRs need at least one season to develop, then drafting one now makes sense. And this rule can apply to other positions as well.

FWIW, Gonzalez was deemed a potential Pats prospect, and an option at #28, long before the Pats reported interest. So, basically -- this is old news. No offense to the thread's author.

Yeah, but who really cares? Ginn's speed is well known. Does it really matter if he ends up running a 4.34 or a 4.37?

Hopefully, he'll do a heavy load of positional drills.

Yeah, but you can not really put a round 1 guy on the practice squad. If we take a guy in round 1-4 he better be able to beat someone out. Not that I would really mind someone beating out Gaffeny or Washington.

For 2007 I would say we have 6 chairs for WR. Stallworth gets one for talent, Welker gets one for versitilty, Brown gets one for respect, Jackson gets one for potential, Caldwell gets one for continutiy, that leaves one chair open. Even if Jackson starts out on the PUP, one would hope he comes back and who-ever is keeping his place warm is going have to go.

A very smart, fast, quick, good hands, good route route running WR who could be under contract at low dollars for at least the next 4 years.

I hope this is true. Gonzalez has been my draft darling all year.

In my book the reason the Pats lost the AFC championship game was Reche Caldwell. Say what you will about Indy TE's running wild and that Reche got us passed San Diego, but for my money, he dropped two or three balls and those drops hurt badly.

Sure. But our defense also gave up more points in the 2nd half than we had surrendered in an entire game up to that point. Sure, Reche tried to run with the quick hitch before he had it. It would've gone for close to a TD. Of course, his chances would have been enhanced if Brady had seen him right away.

Really, I look at two plays....The phantom PI call on Hobbs in the end zone, and the obvious PI non-call on Harper (I think it was Harper) in the end zone.

And I hate making officials or injuries/illnesses convenient excuses, but those two hurt badly.
