Not sure if someone else already posted this info...

Asante Samuel is expected to ask the Patriots for a contract similar to the one Dre' Bly signed last week.

-Boston Globe

That's a pretty good price. I would do that.

What were the terms of Bly's deal?

What were the terms of Bly's deal?

The article said 5 year/$33 million. I think the Pats could sign Samuel for a little cheaper than that if thats what he is looking for.

that would be a very fair deal for both sides, Asante deserves it...

FWIW, I would take Samuel over Bly.

Thats a perfect contract number....if the structure is cap friendly.
16/5=3.2

33/5=6.6

There's the basic math. 6.6 mil/year with 3.2 guaranteed. Thats roughly 5.25 and 2.56 mil respectivley in 2006 pre cap increase dollars. Very fair pricetag, if, like I said, it can be structured properly to keep everyone happy. But the devil is in the details!

Bly's no better then Samuel, so why not?

I would too. I was watching the Lion-Rams game on NFL network this afternoon and the Rams receivers were making him look godawful.

While I agree that Asante is worth MORE than Bly (Because of his age), I also think that Bly is horribly underrated as a cover corner.

He'll look better now because he'll being playing against lesser talent and across from Champ.

If Samuel wants a Bly area deal, pay the man!

Or it could backfire on him. If I had to pick a corner to throw at it would be Bly. He may get burned more than a few times with teams that draw up strategies that target him.

Really? I hear all about him, and I never see him making plays for the Lions.

i'm sure samuel is looking for something fair....since he was slapped with the tag, and he's far greater than clements...who got an 80 mill deal....

i think bly's contract or somethign a little cheaper is only fair for samuel

He excels in man and can't play the cover two worth ****e. Which is why it was so loltastic when the Skins tried to get him, since they play cover two as well. The Broncos play man a lot, so he'll hopefully do better here.

But getting Asante for a Bly type contract would be an absolute steal for you guys. Clements got his enormous contract, and Samuel is definitely on his level, I'd certainly be asking for a lot more then what Bly got. The Pats have a good FO, so I'm sure you will get the best value for Samuel, be it in a trade or a contract.

If Samuel wants much better than Bly money, he should prove it for more than one season. But I think he's worth around that much.

Seems doable in that neighborhood.

If anyone saw that video interview a few weeks ago, Samuel looks like he's happy and expects a long term deal.
