In my list below of current Patriots players and in their careers thus far who do you think they best compare to RIGHT NOW in the NFL-Who has had similar success, failure?

The player you compare them to must be a current player and on a current NFL Team.

Please answer with NO added extra players or positions to this list other than the players below I would like you to compare him to,that way it keeps the thread shorter somewhat, just the guys I mentioned on here.....

TOM BRADY - I compare him to a very young Brad Johnson BUT ONLY when Brad was much younger - Both are very smart in the pocket, make few errors and find the open guy,Manning has a different type of play so I don't think he resembles Brady when it comes to Quarterback presence and positioning.

LAWRENCE MARONEY - Runs like Steven Jackson,Looks like Steven Jackson,Has a body and statue similar to Steven Jackson and has had a decent Rookie start like Steven Jackson.

BEN WATSON - When he plays well he looks like an Alge Crumpler out there,Good hands and presence awareness of where he is on the field and who is guarding him...Last year was not his best but I will give him a pass on it because the wide receiver situation as a whole was a problem much of last year.

DAN KOPPEN - Must compare him to Jeff Saturday - Both are relatively quiet, media friendly, protect their respective QBs well, rarily fumble a snap and go about their business of playing well at what is concidered by many to be one of the hardest,if not THE hardest position to play in football-Much respected guys and play like one another.

WES WELKER - Has better stats and play than Tim,but I compare him to Tim Dwight who also has the heart and desire to succeed no matter where he is on the field and make those tough catches when it counts and play well as kickoff returners, both are small guys but with hearts the size of their bodies.

RICHARD SEYMOUR - Must be compared to a guy like Michael Strahan - Both big but fast athletes who are capable of plugging running lanes and getting after the runner in the backfield and rushing the passer well at times too, both are tough to handle one on one.

TEDI BRUSCHI - I think this pick is relatively easy..To me its Zach Thomas who plays just as hard,Plays well and even though not the biggest guy on the field, puts forth 100% effort every time and gives his team a lift when its needed or makes a big play at a crucial time..There is no better comparison to our Tedy than Zach right now.

ASANTE SAMUEL - Must go with Dre Bly to compare,Great instincts, superb speed and covers opposing receivers well most of the time,Both have had some lousy games but bounce back with a big one usually the next week or two after.

RODNEY HARRISON - Another one who I think is a no brainer as a brutal hard hitting safety comparison would have to be Sean Taylor - Sean may actually hit harder and play more fierce,Theres not too many other guys that play the game the way Rodney has and Sean is one of them - Both smart and put fear into the eyes of receivers,Ask that kicker in the Pro-Bowl who probably still is woozy from the hit he received by Sean.

As far as the coaching goes our BILL BELICHICK gets a comparison in MIKE SHANAHAN - The best coaches in the game and Mike is the only one to come close in comparison to our BB.

Baseball starts next week, not that that is a good thing, but one more milestone before TC... it cannot come fast enough.

Maroney is not similar to Jackson

Steven doesnt have breakaway speed
Jackson is more powerful
Jackson is a 240 pound RB who looks bigger than a lot of LBs but in terms of rookie year..agreed

btw its Laurence .. AU not AW

seymour to Strahan? Mike is a pass rusher..hes faster than Sey. Seymour is a run stopper whos stronger but not as athletic or fast as Strahan. bad comparsion

Watson doesnt have good hands but hes getting there

Samuel doesnt have superb speed but hes fast though.

Worst post in history.

Re: Compare OUR guys to OTHER teams guys - Who resembles our best guys career the mos

Brad Johnson.

im still trying to fathom that one.

Brad Johnson.

Unitas. Montana. Elway. Starr. Staubach. Bradshaw. Brady. Brad Johnson.

Re: Compare OUR guys to OTHER teams guys - Who resembles our best guys career the mos

Here's my take on it.

TOM BRADY - He plays like Joe Montana, has the same spirit, technique and looks to have just as long of a career

LAURENCE MARONEY - Maroney gives me more of a Warrick Dunn feel than Steven Jackson.

BEN WATSON - A very, very immature Kellen Winslow Sr.

DAN KOPPEN - Can't disagree with Jeff Saturday.

WES WELKER - Our own TROY BROWN is the most similar player to Wes out there right now.

RICHARD SEYMOUR - Seymour really is unique in what he does. The closest I can think of is Alan Page, who moved from a promising defensive end career to play tackle with the Vikings and Bears in the '70s.

TEDI BRUSCHI - Zach Thomas is also a good pick here.

ASANTE SAMUEL - Rashean Mathis seems like a more apt comparison to me here.

RODNEY HARRISON - Adrian Wilson is by far the best comparison here. He hits hard and still can defend the pass.

BILL BELICHICK - MIKE SHANAHAN. Can't disagree here.

Please tell me that this is an April fool's joke posted a day early.

Re: Compare OUR guys to OTHER teams guys - Who resembles our best guys career the mos

No one has suggested a good comparison for Richard Seymour yet. Strahan is a pass rushing DE. Alan Page was a quickness penetrating DT not at all like SeyMonsta.

There were a several of guys I can think of that fit more the style and value of Richard. Dan Hampton, was the heart and soul for the great Bears teams. Dent and ice box got the headlines but Hampton was th foundation that let them play.

Bob Lilly was the prototypical DT who made the Cowboys into winner and created the "Doomsday" defense. Like "Danimal", Lilly wasn't in the spotlight but his presence let a lot of others excel.

Another guy that would fit the category is Merlin Olsen of the Rams. While Deacon Jones racked up the Sacks, it was Merlin shutting down the run and demanding doubles that opened up the Field for the Deacon, just like Hampton opened the field for Richard Dent.

A fourth guy is mean Joe Greene of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was the foundation tackle, that made it all possible for the others to excel. He and Fats Holmes protected Jack Ham to do his thing. Mean Joe anchored the line to allow the DE to offer a fierce rush.

The thing all had in common were that they were big, 6-5 to 6-6 and 280+ and totally dominant at their positions and fundamentally sound. They all were "foundation" linemen that you build a Defense not just a D-line around.

I'm not crazy about this comparison either. Maroney is much bigger than Warrick Dunn. I've heard Dunn described as a pinball who bounces off tacklers as he sneaks up the middle. That doesn't seem like Maroney to me.

Re: Compare OUR guys to OTHER teams guys - Who resembles our best guys career the mos

Wes Welker - Wayne Chrebet/Ricky Proehl - 3rd down, pesky WR, will make valuable/needed plays

Maroney - Clinton Portis..fast and underestimated strength

Hey, whatever happened to Wayne Chrebet? Did he retire?

Yeah he did at the end of the 2005 season after he suffered a bad concussion.

Fair enough. However, both runners have excelled in a zone-blocking system and both runners have decent breakaway speed as well as good durability. Truth be told, no one in the NFL really bears the same running style as Maroney right now, and I think that's a good thing, not a bad thing.
