OT: Goodell to Personally Meet w/ Pacman

Goodell is bland, inoffensive, indecisive, lacking in both eloquence and charisma. IOW, he was the perfect compromise candidate for Commish, offending no one, representing nothing, just stamping his smiling senator's son face on the league's monopoly money. There is no reason to dignify a criminal like PacMan with a pow-wow. A real comissioner with sack would simply pull the plug on a has-been video game without mealy mouthed half-threats and half-measures floated to half-men in the press. I felt Goodell was a doofus the first time I saw him interviewed during the Pitt-Miami opening game last season, and he's well on his way to proving me right.

I disagree - meeting with the guy before what I expect will be a harsh disciplinary action helps make even more of an example of him - the media equivilent of the stockades.

Do you think Jones wants to meet with Goodell? - I'd say not - he'd rather just take whatever punishment and be done with it.

Jones is clearly a disturbed individual though - if I were Goodell I might want to wear a vest.

I hope Goodell's taking security with him.

There having a sit down, and if he does not say your not playing football for a until you get your life in order, than this wont mean nothing..

I agree with lack of a reason to meet with the jerk, Tags wouldn't have done it, IMO. Hope he doesn't get snowed and uses the opportunity to set down a firm policy. Jones is a rare talent and Kraft's sobriquet of "overindulged" certainly applies.

Pacman is not going to get his life in order. Without sounding like a racist, let me just say that he was born in the ghetto, he was raised in the ghetto, and he was schooled in the ghetto. He's a born criminal that happened to have a ****load of talent on the gridiron. He'll end up murdering or raping somebody one day and he'll spend the rest of his life in jail.

Chris Henry has also been called in,great for Ravens fans because he wont be on the field week one thats for sure!

Schefter said that he thinks the initial suspension for Jones will be 6-8 games, which could turn into a season eventually because that doesnt count the 2 most recent incidents.

Without sounding like a racist/QUOTE]

Because everyone that's born in the ghetto does that right? You don't come off as racist, you come off as an ignorant pig.

You must be black. I work in and around Fort Pierce everyday, which if you didn't know has the highest crime rate in Florida. No, not everyone in the ghetto is gangsta but most of them are. I see it everyday. The place is a trap. Most turn to selling crack or coke to make enough money to help themselves and their parents and most never leave there.

Jones' lawyers will, and should, fight any suspension as a restraint of trade violation.

Goodell shouldn't do anything unless, and until, Jones is actually convicted of something. Not just arrested, but convicted. And yes, a plea-bargain would be considered a conviction.

Remember: innocent until proved (or plead) guilty.

If the former commisioner had the courage, the spine, the moral rectitude to do the right thing in the winter/spring of 2000, when that hideous scumbag Ray Lewis agreed to a one-year suspended sentence from the DA for obstruction, then the current commisioner would have at least some precedent on his side. Instead, Lewis got away with murder (figuratively, allegedly). And the Ravens win the SB; further proof that there is no god.

Goodell can and will suspend him for failure to report 2 incidents in Georgia, and has every right to do so.

"Restraint of trade violation???"

Let me guess, you are a lawyer.Just what the world need more of,litigation.

.
Huh?? Restraint of trade refers to contracts signed by employees that limit their ability to compete in their trade or profession. An example is a covenant not to compete in which an employer hires an employee who agrees not to solicit the employer's clients for a fixed time after he leaves the job.
It doesn't apply in this situation in which a player by virtue of signing the standard NFL contract agrees to the authority of the NFL Commissioner to discipline for on or off the field activity.
His lawyers may appeal but they will go thru the hoops set up in the CBA agreed to by the NFL players and owners. I don't know if there is a mechanism to appeal punishment from the Commissioner, it may be unappealable......

1) Is failure to report an incident, which I ass-u-me resulted in an arrest, a violation of the standard player contract? I don't know; that's why I'm asking.

2) I am not a lawyer. My point is, really, that the league should wait for the courts to have first crack at Jones. If he is found guilty of anything, anywhere, and a sentence, even a suspended one, is imposed, then the commissioner should suspend Jones for the same amount of time as his sentence. See my post re: Lewis, Ray.

On NFL Total Access, either Schefter or Eisen said that this matter may be resolved quickly because the commissioner wants to have Tennessee know of Jones' status before the draft. Eff the Titans. They and everyone else knew of Jones' reputation before the 2005 draft. Nonetheless, Tennessee called the Pacman tune; now it's time to pay the piper. They should have drafted Antrel Rolle or Carlos Rogers instead. Eff them.

Yep,we may never see Pacman again. He was standing in front of the commisioners desk and then boom! Pacman realized his fatal error that he was standing in the middle of a paint drop tarp. The end.
