This looks awful... He has us trading 24 to New Orleans for 27 (and probably something else I didn't read that much of it) and taking Anthony Spencer there and Ryan Kalil at 28. Not that I'd be surprised if it happened, I wouldn't be happy with this at all. Another OLB and a C? Doesn't make sense.

What does Kirwan know that I don't? Didn't the Pats just lock up their center and unless every corner, safety and Pat Willis is gone, why would they take Spencer?

The more I see of these mocks, the more I just want nothing to do with the first round. Then again, NO better give up a 3rd rounder or 4th rounder.

I saw this article on Sunday and was absolutely stunned this is so far off and I like Kirwin but he is way off on this one IMO. This is the year to add to very good players to your defense and I am convinced this is where they are going. I would love to see Aaron Ross or Michael Griffin from Texas and Beason from Miami at LB. I am not a Poz fan so I hope they don't go in that direction. Beason is a tackling machine with speed. Ross a pretty good cover guy with speed and is also a pretty good PR/KR so hopefully this is the direction they are heading. But to be honest I haven't picked one of their #1s since BB has been here.

Any draft with trades in it is going to be awful. Sometimes think these mocks pick someone who we wouldn't expect just to get a rise out of everyone. Either that or they are absolutely clueless.

IMO have said all along might use a 1st on an OL, never can have enough quality depth here...

The trade included a 4th also but think we can make a better deal and add a pick this year and next. Those are both good players and Kalil was impressive at combine but we HAVE TO GET A DB in the first.

I think that's probably true. I could certainly see us taking a beast tackle if one is available in the first round, but I think the extension to Koppen plus the availability of a very sound back up in Hochstein who has served the Pats very well in the past make it unlikely that we will spend a first rounder on a center.

I will say this, Kirwan chose two guys who fit the Patriots system, which is much more consideration than most mockers give. This might be the only mock I've seen that I could say that both 1st round picks are "Patriots-type players".

Good points. 2 players not at the top of any one's lists and if no one wants to trade down with us or into next year, I could see it being 'possible' and living with it.

Sure you can. Would you be okay with us drafting 10 OL in the draft? Of course not.

Every time you acquire quality depth at one position, it means another position did not receive depth.

The key to a good team is balance.

We already have more OLs under contract than will make the team. That isn't true of ILB, S or CB.

That's why Kirwan's mock doesn't make sense to me. Especially the center. We just extended Koppen and Hochstein, and have Mruc under contract (and even if he is cut he has been part of our shadow roster for years). Just do not see BB drafting an OC in first round.

Kalil could make the switch to guard easily, and at worst he'd be a younger Hochstein. At best, he'd be a starting guard who could play center in case of injury.

I'm not a big fan of a Center or Guard as I'm happy with our starters there - admittedly we don't have a lot of depth but I don't really want to work on that in Round 1.

Now, if we're talking about a Tackle, either a RT or a LT who could move Light to RT - that would interest me.

He has us taking Leon Hall at 24 and Kalil at 28.

I am ecstatic about landing Hall at 24 but definitely displeased with Kalil at 28.
I would have rather scooped up Meachem who he had going at 30 here or even *shudder* Beason who he has going at 31.

But the problem is we already have Hochstein and Koppen.
We don't need another.
If he had us getting Staley at 28 I wouldn't have a problem with it.
Because he would be a potential upgrade at LT or at worst a talented understudy who might start in the near future.

Right. I'm wasn't suggesting that we draft him, only that he is a "Patriots Player". Fits the physical and mental makeup of our linemen.

Fair enough. Man I can't wait for this stupid draft to start!

But does he like to Bar-B-Que?

One thing to remember about Kirwan, and I had forgotten about it until PFT reminded me last night, is that he has been accused of manipulating his mock drafts to help out his friends among agents. He actually got a kickback off Carson Palmer's contract:

A reader has pointed out to us that Pat Kirwan of NFL.com, who recently had defensive end Jamaal Anderson completely out of his first-round mock draft, also has taken running back Marshawn Lynch off of the board.

So what gives? Kirwan says that "[q]uestions are emerging" about Lynch, but doesn't delve into said questions. We've done some poking around, and the only questions we're aware of relate to allegations that were made and promptly disregarded by a female acquaintance several months ago.

For Kirwan, however, something apparently has bubbled up in the past week to cause Lynch to fall from No. 16 to the Packers all the way out of the round.

In fact, the thinking is that Lynch won't get past the Titans at No. 19. We're told that he has visits lined up with Cleveland, Baltimore, Tennessee, Green Bay, Detroit, and Buffalo, and private workouts with the Packers and the Titans.

The Bills, Packers, and Titans all need a clear-cut No. 1 tailback. We can't see all three saying no to Lynch.

Even if they do, we envision someone trading into the bottom of round one to snare him, just like the Lions did a few years back in landing Kevin Jones.

And, though we've got no real beef with Kirwan, it's hard to ponder his slate of picks without recalling the side deal he allegedly had several years back in connection with the rookie contract of quarterback Carson Palmer, who coincidentally happened to be the No. 1 guy on Kirwan's mock draft. One league insider who eyeballed Kirwan's mock spotted several CAA clients positioned far higher than many think they will be taken.

We're not suggesting that Kirwan is pimping for Tom Condon or Ben Dogra. But the reality of the mock draft process is that agent relationships often can color the manner in which certain players are regarded.

Unless the Pats want to move Mankins to OT -- which I greatly doubt -- it would take a huge bargain on the interior OL to justify a draft pick. They have three good-to-excellent, one wholly-adequate, and one good-enough-in-a-pinch starter already, plus Mruckowksi.

If I'm wrong about Mankins, however, all bets are off.
