Beijing's Workers Stadium is the site of the 2007 China Bowl between the Seahawks & Patriots.

The National Football League - America's most popular sports attraction - has been selected by the city of Beijing to stage a game in the Chinese capital city that will serve as the kickoff of the one-year countdown to the opening of the XXIX Olympic Games in China.

The Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots will play in the first NFL game in China - the world's fastest growing market - when the teams meet in Beijing on Thursday, August 9, 2007.

The game will be televised live in China by China Central Television (CCTV) at 8:30 PM. CCTV is China's largest TV network. NBC will carry the game live in the United States at 5:30 am PT.

Beijing is in a timezone that is15 hours ahead of Seattle.

With a capacity of 60,000, Beijing's Workers Stadium - site of the soccer competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics - will play host to the matchup between the Seahawks and Patriots, two of the NFL's most exciting teams.

Current Time in Beijing
Seattle previously participated in the NFL's international American Bowl games in Vancouver, Canada and Tokyo, Japan. In their first international game since 1998 (Vancouver), the Seahawks will seek their first victory outside the United States.

The Patriots have taken part in two international games since the American Bowl series of preseason games was instituted in 1986. They played in Montreal, Canada in 1990 and in Mexico City, Mexico in 1998. The trip to China will be the team's first game outside of North America.

Fans in China will be familiar with the Patriots and Seahawks. CCTV broadcast the NFL's schedule of Sunday Night Football games live in China throughout the 2006 season, culminating with an on-site telecast of Super Bowl XLI. Seattle and New England each appeared on Sunday night at least twice in 2006.

The game in China will mark the 42nd international contest for the NFL in the American Bowl era. There have been 40 international preseason games and one regular-season NFL game since 1986.

Anyone else think this is kind of a pain in the ass for the team? I know its early August but I can't imagine BB is thrilled with this.

Sounds Great!!! Football, Eggrolls, Rice and chopsticks. If we are really lucky maybe even a fortune cookie!!!

Clearly it's not ideal from a preparation perspective, but the team, players and fans should embrace it. It's an incredible opportunity to travel somewhere completely different and be ambassadors for the game. It should be a tremendous experience for them.

We'll be counting on you to post some good pics PJ.

I sure will. I'm also going to see if I can use some connections to try to hook up with the boys while they're there. Maybe show them the better karaoke bars, etc.!

Did I hear that the Pats will be playing the Seahawks in a pre-season game like the week before?

I heard that the Chineese have no translation for the word "Football" so the closest thing they have on the website translates to "OliveBall"...

PD.

Tom can sing "You're Having my Baby" only if Giselle is not around. BB can bring down the house with "When You're a Jet". Maroney sings the autobiographical "Boney Maroney". Dave Thomas can do any Wendy's jingle. Borges can impersonate Milli Vanilli.

The night ends with the team singing "By the Time we get to Phoenix".

Any other ideas on the playlist?

When the time approaches, I want a head count on which of you all will be here in Seattle attending the game. I'm sure someone will post a thread about who is going to this game in August. Be sure to let me know. It will be fun to meet and greet some of you over drinks.:)

BTW--Jetman67 will be at that game for any of you who want to beat a Jetfan down!!! LOL

Its in the "Road Games" forum. In fact Miss Sea...chick, as a local maybe you can help come up with some ideas meeting up before and/or after the game (including day before and after) but that can probably wait until we have an idea of how many will be in town for the game.
