Wow RT @RealPeterson21: Happy to announce my 5 year extension with @AZCardinals! $70M and $48M Guaranteed!! #AZCardinals #P2Nation

Wow is right. Revis will get paid after this year big time but pats stole him this year for 12 mill

I say unless we win the SB and revis loves that, he is going to be worth some big big bucks and might price him out of our range

No question his next deal will be 13-14 mill...will it come from the pats? Who knows

I've been speaking about the rising CB market and Peterson's new potential pact for the past couple of months now, and I think it's apparent that it's definitely going to cost a **** ton of money to keep Darrelle Revis in N.England beyond next season. He's definitely going to be want to be paid in the top 5 of the position, and rightfully so. With Haden, Peterson, Sherman, etc recently signing new deals, that may be tough for N.England to pull off.

Either way you look at it, I think it's going to come down to free agency like we've seen with many of our stars recently, a la Welker, Edelman, Talib, Woodhead, Blount, etc.

Why people assume that Revis is going to take a deal without seeing what kind of other offers he can get is beyond me, unless we really back up that Brinks truck to the tune of 14m per year AAV, and a ton of guaranteed money. It's possible, but I think it comes down to what some other offers are going to be.

Revis seems to be a perfect fit if the regular season and playoffs goes as well as the 1st 5 practices then Revis won't want to go and BB won't let him.

It's amazing how much the CB market rose from last year, or more appropriately, how much it dove for the 2013 free agent period.

It would've been great to lock up a good CB during last offseason, although most of them wanted to wait it out and take one year deals. I still think that more teams could've taken advantage of the situation, however.

They will take care of their own first...so McCourty will get the first big deal next off season or during this season. I mean this team is very good salary cap wise i think going into next year and in the future? so i think they can defiantly do it..but the pats won't hedge the future on 1 player even though he may prove to be very important.

It's a long way off and we still get to enjoy a full year of him..but we will always be thinking about next off season and if we can keep him. The reports when he signed here was this was just a 1 year thing for now but both sides were mutually interested in a long term deal. If he wants to win and the pats offer good $$ i think he will stay.

You have a lot of faith in Bill Belichick having some kind of power over one of the most highly sought after NFL players who has a regular "camp" of mentors, decision makers, accountants, and agents who have played some serious hardball over the years when it comes to contractual negotiations.

One question: With the recent crop of major CB deals that have happened since Revis signed here, why wouldn't he want to weigh other offers?

We always hear about the old "wanting to play for a winner" theory, but there are 12 playoff teams every year, and another 2-3 teams who almost make it; thus, totaling about 15 "winners" that will all be offering competitive deals that may be worth significantly more. At least 6-8 of those teams are highly competitive just about every single year.

I hope you're right, but I think it's 50/50, and will remain that way.

I totally agree with your thoughts. The only thing that could be argued a bit is "how" good of cap shape they are in for next year and the future, seeing as how we do have some big names coming up. Is it "we're in okay shape," or "we're in good, solid shape?" I guess it will depend on some important decisions coming up in the future.

He will weigh offers..but he may be at the point now where he will only listen to contenders and what they can offer..not teams like CLE or Oak that won't have a shot at winning the big one

I could see that happening, where he only listens to serious teams who are in regular contention.

We could consider that list at the moment (obviously, it will change a bit with some unknowns):

NEP
DEN
KC
PIT
BAL
CIN
SF
SEA
GB PACKERS
NO SAINTS
WHOEVER WINS THE NFCE

....you get the picture, that's 11 teams right there. There are plenty of teams who would be in serious contention and are considered "winners" or being in constant contention around the NFL. We all have an idea that we currently make up the only fanbase in the league that sees constant winning, but some of us (like yourself) know that is untrue.

Even if you break it down to the best 8 elite teams in the NFL year in/year out, there will still be plenty of teams who would be after one of the top CBs in the game.

The question with revis is going to be how much Logan Ryan, dennard and browner show together. With us having some cbs doing ok as rookies I think this will he interesting with revis.

We all love revis already, but is it worth to take money from other positions for him, or let him go and upgrade multiple positions?

Ya I would say 8 teams. No Seattle based on their DB contracts. No Saints because they have some serious cap issues coming up in the next 3 years with Breed..Byrd..Graham etc.

I think our odds are better then 50-50 slightly. But 1 thing is for sure. I would rather pay him that $$ then talib

Oh, jeez---without a doubt. Without even a second thought.

I know that like me, you never wanted to pay Talib double digits per year either.

Your thinking is exactly why I'm nowhere close to being convinced that Logan Ryan is a serious candidate for a full time move to safety. I think the first thing we need to do is see what kind of player he is through a larger lens, bigger sample size. He looked fairly promising last year as a rookie.

I think as long as Revis would agree to something around 13m (one million higher than this year) on a long term deal with significant, yet reasonable guaranteed money, he would probably consider a 2-3 year deal with us to stay here.

The main problem is that (or my concern, rather) other teams will not only offer more, but more guaranteed money over a 4-5 year period without a moment of hesitation. I think there's easily going to be at least 6-8 teams who would love to offer a CB like Revis a bigger pact, but obviously hope that he stays here.

For those who believe that he'll do something prior to free agency, I would strongly disagree. I think both parties have reason to wait and re-assess the situation, or else they would've done something initially over a longer period when they sat down a few months ago.

I liked him..but not THAT much.

If the Pats deem revis to be worth it. They will pay just like they did other big time players. If he leads then to a SB? He's worth it! Let's hope

They can't do anything with revis until McCourty is locked up

Yeah, I'm hoping that DMcC will be done sometime in the next couple of months, but if not, then we could be looking at BOTH players at the end of the year/beginning of free agency.

If that's the case, then I wonder how much priority McCourty really would have over Revis? I think the gap would narrow considerably, should they both reach free agency.

I can't see BB and the pats letting McCourty go no matter what.

I'd say that he clearly has the upper hand for being the home grown talent, but if the negotiations get difficult, it's anyone's guess. Belichick doesn't stray too far from his beliefs just as well.

If they don't get McCourty done by the offseason, then I think an argument can be made that Revis may end up being more important--even if that isn't necessarily true.

I'm gonna be optimistic and say that both play for NE together for at least 4 seasons. McCourty will get a Mayo/Ninko timed extension and Revis before the offseason begins, tying up about 20-22m/year AAV (somewhere between 8/12 to 9/13 for DMC/DR respectively) between the two.

It is a lot of money, but its also not as nuts as Seattles secondary cap allocations, but if and when they perform like we expect them to, solidifying a top 5 pass defense, they will be worth it.
