I'm not going to say too much about what I saw today. Azores and SBB already did a good enough job.

One particular play I witnessed pretty close up was Edelman streaking down the sideline, Revis beaten, Brady throws a perfect spiral set to hit Edelman in stride and...Revis...I mean you have to SEE him to believe it. He has that "it" thing, that ability to KNOW when to look back for the ball with a split second to spare and then MAKE the INT...not flub it, not drop it off his hands, not bat it down...MAKE the INT. He is really the best player on defense.

I know the moronic knower brigade who know everything about everything and vomit their streams of stats and the rest of their egotistical garbage every day, without ever ACTUALLY SEEING a practice or a real play...I know they will blame somebody for something ridiculous and then go off on this new Patsfans.com exercise of finding fault with Brady's throwing or Edelman's route running or whatever pure geekaloid garbage they want to use to pump up their "knower" status here but the TRUTH is GREAT PLAYERS MAKE GREAT PLAYS. Revis is one of the truly great players in this league. He picked two passes off today and knocked at least one other away all the while as Brady had a very good practice throwing strikes all over the field. Anybody who was THERE will back me up on this...Tom looks at the top of his game. Edelman, Amendola, and KT look sharp and the offense looks pretty crisp considering it's the first practice with pads.

Oh yeah, Connolly is taking all the reps at center...I was talking with Sarge and a few of the other old war horse Pats fans and our consensus is Wendell is a goner. Too soon to really say one way or the other but off today, I'd say it doesn't look to bright for Wendy.

When the terms of Wendell's contract came out, it was pretty clear that he was signed just as a hedge against the possibility that nobody could take his job. It seems like the Pats expect that he'll be beaten out, and if/when that happens he's gone at no cost to the team... or he's kept around as a game day inactive in case the starting C goes down. He's cheap enough that they could go that route pretty easily if they wanted.

As far as questioning Brady/Edelman, I hope/think that nobody here is actually going to use that as a basis for criticism. Brady's spoken at length many times about how practice is when you push the envelope and make the high-risk throws that you avoid when the stakes are high in actual games. Have to push the boundaries to find the limit, so to speak.

And even then, sometimes you make a good throw and the corner is so good that he just intercepts it anyway. That describes Revis' past picks on Brady so well, and it's basically the reason why most QBs just don't even throw at him anymore.

yeah, it was Wilson and McCourty for most of the practice at safeties.

Is it a waste if Manning can't get the ball to D. Thomas because he's jammed at the line or Sanders because he's on Revis island? Doing that you can spring traps over the middle when he has to force the ball to Welker & J. Thomas.

Although many will disagree, but I truly believe that one of Wendell/Connelly will be moving on, with Connelly's versatility working to his favor. This has seemed to be reasonable to me since the end of last season, and the selection of 3 new OL in the draft only solidified it.

I think it will be a very disappointing moment for the coaches if all 3 rookies + Kline end up being so mediocre/bad that they are forced to keep both Wendell/Connelly for the upcoming season, although that statement is certainly opinionated and could end up being incorrect.

I agree. I think Connelly sticks because of his versatility and I believe he's just better. I know he costs more than Wendell but the extra money is worth it, IMO. That guy has stepped up every time he's been asked. I've never felt unease seeing his 63 out there.

he had his bell rung twice during last season..I was surprised he even played through to the end. There is no question that he should play guard over Wendell and if he can sure up his center techniques he's physically better than Wendell at center. If today is any indication, he's the starting center, but I really can't say that day 1 of padded practice means anything more going forward than it's day one.

You know whats crazy to me? Just how easy Revis makes everything look. At times it doesnt even look like the guy is trying. That pick on Edelman was a thing of beauty....His play recognition is off the charts. Revis is as good as advertised. If not better. He's that damn good!

Just another note...

I was sitting behind the EZ. Its nice, and its where I usually sit, but I think next time I'm gonna try and sit on the bleachers. I missed a lot of the action going on in the trenches. I couldn't tell anyone who was starting on either of the OL/DL.

Also, besides Hoo-man, I was not impressed with what we have at TE. Jones, dropped a couple of sure passes. And no one else stood out. Obviously a healthy Gronk solves everything, but I think TE is by far, our thinnest position.

And in even better news, guess who just found out he's going to the season ticket holder practice Friday? This sexy bastard posting this right here!!!!!!!!

Who was taking snaps at RG if Connolly was taking first team C reps?

Canon? Halapio? Kline?

I'm a much bigger Connolly fan due to his positional flexibility and he is a bit of a size upgrade over Wendell as well. It does seem like Guge likes the bigger OL which is why I wouldn't be surprised to see Canon at RG after having drafted Flemming to backup Vollmer incase of injuries to him or Solder.

This will probably make a lot of people happy. Did he hold his own in drills? As far as we know it's one of the first times he's practiced at Guard, when he was drafted BB made it clear he would play tackle for us despite the common mindset he was going to be a G.

well, yeah, he held his own...as much as one can I guess on the first day of pads. There's a lot of what LOOKS like 2 technique work between the DL and the OL. Basic man up shoulder to shoulder. I can't really say with any veracity because of the viewing angles but Cannon made some good pops as well as got popped, as did everybody on the lines as far as I could tell, but I was foucused a lot on Brady, the receivers and Revis for the most part. Maybe some of the other people who were there today watched the lines closer. I really don't put much stock in line reps at practice because the best tool for breaking down the lines comes off the tapes of scrimmages and preseason games. The practice reps are just basic bullwork for the most part.

Actually, I believe that he's been playing guard for all 3 sessions so far (if you include the walkthrough).

I like it better than someone like Kline taking over mainly for experience purpose. He's played in a lot of games recently, and played rather well. He's also a pretty big body.

My biggest concern with a big OL is how much we normally run the hurry up. Can they keep up? It wasn't an issue for a lot of last year because many members of the offense were too inexperience to spend 2011-2012 levels of time in it (that said, I wouldn't be surprised to see a slower paced and run oriented offense if the defense proves to be reliable. Ball control with a good defense will help to eliminate the need to playing hurry up in place of our defense like we've had to do in recent seasons).

I'ts amazing how much that Denver game influenced our offseason. From the unreliability of Talib to Knighton bullying our smaller linemen, they shaped this offseason and they may soon regret bullying us on their way to a SB loss.
