only a 5th.... :(

So we have 24,28,91,123,165,171,187,208,209,&247.

The ones in bold can't be traded.

Did they receive a sixth for the Gorin trade?

These don't include comp. picks yet:

http://patscap.com/patsfreeagency.html

As of now, here is what the Patriots will enter the 2007 draft with.
  • 1 - Patriots
  • 1 - Seahawks - Acquired in the Deion Branch trade.
  • The Patriot traded their 2nd round pick to the Dolphins for Wes Welker
  • 3 - Patriots
  • 4 - Patriots
  • The Patriots traded their 5th round pick to the Raiders for Doug Gabriel.
  • 6 - Cardinals - Acquired in the Brandon Gorin trade to the Cardinals.
  • 6 - Patriots
  • 7 - The Patriot traded their 7th round pick to the Dolphins for Wes Welker
  • The Patriots traded Ross Tucker for a conditional pick in the 2007 draft. It is unknown what the conditions are. Since Tucker did not make the Browns' week 1 roster in 2006, it appears safe to presume that the conditions were not met.
  • According to the Pittsburgh Tribune the Steelers no longer owed the Pats any compensation for Patrick Cobbs since he was waived by the Steelers on 9/8.

You didn't consider that other teams will have comp. picks too.

There are other teams?:D

That is correct, guess we'll have to wait until the entire draft order is published.

PHOENIX - Call it an unexpected surprise. The Rams arrived in Arizona for the NFL’s annual owners meetings fully expecting to receive no compensatory draft picks for the first time in five years.

But the Rams were awarded two seventh-rounders Monday, Nos. 248 and 249 overall in the draft April 28-29.

Since the start of the current system of free agency in 1993, compensatory draft picks have been awarded to teams that lose more free agents than they sign. The complicated formula is based on salary, playing time and postseason honors of free agents signed and lost.

Last offseason, safety Adam Archuleta, and defensive tackles Ryan Pickett and Damione Lewis were among the Rams’ free-agent defections. The Rams were under the impression that those losses were more than offset (under the league formula) by signing defensive tackle La’Roi Glover, linebacker Will Witherspoon, and safety Corey Chavous. "We finished on the ‘plus’ side (of the formula)," said a Rams official. Which meant the Rams weren’t going to receiver compensatory picks.

But when the 2007 compensatory picks for all 32 teams were announced early Monday evening at the owners meetings, the Rams were awarded two seventh-rounders. Over the previous four offseasons, the Rams had received 14 compensatory picks _ two last season, and four apiece in ’05, ’04, and ’03.

Over the years, the Rams have had a fair amount of success with compensatory picks. Mark Setterstrom, a seventh-round compensatory pick last year, started six games at left guard as a rookie in ’06. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, fullback Madison Hedge****, linebacker Brandon Chillar, and tight end Brandon Manumaleuna (now with San Diego) are past compensatory picks. Fitzpatrick and Hedge**** were seventh-rounders; Chillar and Manumaleuna were fourth-rounders.

The NFL announced compensatory picks on Monday with the San Francisco 49ers earning an additional two picks in the 2007 NFL Draft. The 49ers were awarded an additional third-round pick (97th overall) and an additional fourth round pick (135th overall).
A total of 32 compensatory choices were awarded to 16 teams.

Under terms of the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in a year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.
The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four. The 32 compensatory choices announced today will supplement the 223 choices in the seven rounds of the 2007 NFL Draft (April 28-29). This year, the compensatory picks will be positioned within the third through seventh rounds based on the value of the compensatory free agents lost.

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula.

The 49ers two compensatory picks stemmed from the loss of linebackers Julian Peterson and Andre Carter during the 2006 free agency period.

One club this year (Cincinnati) will receive a compensatory pick even though it did not suffer a net loss of compensatory free agents. Under the formula, the compensatory free agents Cincinnati lost were ranked higher than the ones it signed (by a specified point differential based upon salary and performance).

The Steelers received two compensatory picks for the 2007 Draft, including a fourth and a fifth round pick. The picks were a result of the team's free agency moves last year, where they signed Ryan Clark, but lost Antwaan Randle El, Chris Hope and Kimo von Oelhoffen.

PHOENIX – The Green Bay Packers were awarded a seventh-round compensatory draft choice (243rd overall) on Monday, the NFL announced at the owners meeting.

That boosts the Packers’ total picks to nine for the April 28-29 draft, including their original seven choices plus a seventh-rounder they acquired from the New York Jets for offensive lineman Steve Morley.

Compensatory picks are awarded based on free-agent gains and losses, and are at the end of the round. The Packers signed free agents Marquand Manuel, Ryan Pickett and Charles Woodson but lost Mike Flanagan, Paris Lenon, Ryan Longwell and Craig Nall.

Baltimore and New England were awarded four compensatory picks each. A total of 32 compensatory picks were awarded between the third and seventh rounds.

Detroit also received a seventh-round pick and was the only other NFC North team to be awarded a compensatory selection.

The ones in bold can't be traded.

But the players themselves can be, can't they? Perhaps that's a loophole worth exploiting?

Regardless it seems to me if there's one team that doesn't need 10 draft picks its the Patriots.

Even with their "own" picks I can see them trading up in the middle rounds to grab guys they want or trading them down for better draft position next year.

trade some of the tradeable day two picks and get the best you can on day one because you don't have room for all those rooks unless you want to draft a bunch throw them against the wall and see what sticks.

Congrats to AdamJT13...on the money!!!
Yes..they do NOT need 10 picks...so I might think that a few..may go..in some way..10 players too many...so I would hope 2-3 picks might be gone..but who knows..given there are almost 70 players all ready to go now...

I am really excited. It looks like the Colts made out better than any other team. We did a round better than the guy on KFFL predicted with both Thornton and Tripplett. I've been saying for weeks that this may be the most important thing that would happen this offseason, and it went well for the Colts. Those rounds will be great to get a RB, LB, etc.

Indeed. The Colts made out well in comp picks.
