Threads like these are why I tend to stay out'f the Gen Pop!!

Considering that he was a UFA who flashed outstanding Potential and made great strides as a Rookie at a difficult Position to master ~ especially in this tortuously exacting Offense ~ before missing an huge chunk of the Year because of Injury...the Volume and Intensity of his Critics is bizarre, to put it kindly.

I published a Scouting Report with a 1st Round Ranking on Thompkins right as Camp was opening last Year, and at no point since then have I felt any reason to downgrade the Lad.

KT has become one of our more polarizing players in awhile. He compares to Sterling Moore IMO.

One could make an argument that both players either played well their rookie years or struggled. Next training camp, some considered Moore a roster bubble player while others thought he could be much more.

Sterling Moore failed, but BB did give him a second chance. He started a number of games leading up to the Denver game where D. Thomas torched him repeatedly.

BB will give KT a 2nd starting chance. It remains to be known if he'll seize it or fail.

I would not compare his situation to Moore's all

There is just way too much crazy going on here lately.
What's so crazy about all the "huge" difference between 190 and 200/Amendola/Chad Johnson/Sterling Moore/Gaffney/Chernobyl disaster?(I don't know how that correlates). Alright, there's a lot of crazy going on here.

The David Givens, Rod Smith, Keenen McCardell, Troy Brown references are good and relevent.

I'm hopeful the undrafted kid from WKRP U. does well and doesn't wind up being the next Shockmain Davis.

Even more than with most positions, measurables are only useful to a point with WRs. I could easily go and link to 10 WRs whose measurables are better than AJ Green's, all of whom are fringe NFL players.

Not to dismiss Thompkins: I'm hopeful, as we all should be. I just don't think that that comparison means what you're suggesting. Thompkins' measurables tell us that he has the requisite baseline ability to be a good NFL WR (they actually compare favorably to his cousin, Antonio Brown's) but I would be hesitant to draw much more than that from combine numbers.

The measurables of 80% of the players in nfl camps are close to the good players at their positions that's why they okay that position.
Here we seem to just dismiss the 16 to 8 bench reps and the fact that almost every line favors one guy because when you lay out all those numbers well they look kinda close dont they?
This board took a major step backward when these measurable charts started showing up

Don't know his exact measurables at 200 lbs. However coaches noticed he is definitely quicker and a better overall athlete than last year. He was shooting for sub 4.4 40 and more lower body explosion/flexibility. He feels faster than he did entering the league.
What are you his mother?

No, I discuss what I disagree with.

That is not simplistic. Ignoring what you see with your eyes by using data you do not understand is just a wrong approach.

We aren't talking about advanced stats, so stay on topic, and don't strawman yourself.

It is intolerant to feel that when data started being misused the board took a step backward?

Where did I say it was? You seem to want to think that stating my opinion and assessment of your method is different than you stating your own. In what way does my opinion that you are wrong make me think I am more correct than anyone else stating their opinion.
I simply think you misuse the data, it clogs the board, it creates discussion based upon misperception and takes away from what I would prefer the content of the board was.
Are you saying I shouldn't be allowed to have that opinion?

Where did I say you are not entitled to your opinion? Why are you saying I am not entitled to mine if I disagree with yours?
Are you saying you wish that this board would have its members never comment on things they disagree with? That is a very narrow minded view.
You said the board took a step back because fans post measurables, which equates to the board being worse because of these posters doing that. That implies that you are intolerant of their views and think that this place would be better without them. That is not disagreeing with someone that is telling them that they are ruining the board. You can spin it however you want but you do it all the time, if you do not agree with someone you cannot just state that you have to add in some smug comment to alienate them too.

So, how is KT looking today with pads on?

not sure why people are surprised that THompkins looks better this year. I would assume Dobson will look better once hes on the field as well.

2nd year is a big one for wide receivers in their development

I doubt that anyone is surprised to hear that Thompkins looks good in the underwear practices, or that he looks better than last year.

Huh? The ball hit him in the hands bounced off and then (sometimes) he caught it on the rebound.
Whatever you are describing there isn't what happened.

Yes, there were a few of those too. So -ahem-, where was I... <cough> Ahhh yes. So then, yes, it seems we are all in full agreement. :) Excluding these and any other balls he DID NOT DROP straight to the ground and kick away, KT showed good hands or adjustment making catches either smoothly or when necessary, fighting through bad body or ball position (which often resulted in an ugly double clutch) yet also resulted in more importantly, a catch. :D

What ever happened to the Danny Amendola mega thread that was supposed to contain all the debates regarding Amendola/his contract/ his groin/his hanging up on that one guy/ his quick cuts/ his relationship to Edelman/ his needing to lose 10 lbs of fat and gain 15 lbs of muscle/ and his connection to the Chernobyl disaster? I didn't follow it, but I do recall it existing for the aforementioned purpose.

It exploded from sheer overload.

Right now, I think we have very good depth at the WR spot, especially if Dobson returns soon and has made a significant year 2 leap. I see the following WRs making the roster –

Edelman
Dobson
LaFell
Thompkins
Amendola
Boyce (kick returner)
Slater (special teams only)

This versatility will allow the team to do many different things. Most importantly, we are two deep at all three WR positions.

X-WR – Dobson, Thompkins
Z-WR – LaFell, Boyce
H-WR – Edelman, Amendola

So your argument is that double catching is good because he didn't drop the ones he caught?
By the way it didn't happen on tough catches

He also dropped some that he attempted to double catch

Did you REALLY have to make two separate consecutive posts (#115 and #116) to respond to one post?

What are you his mother?

Of course I'm not his mother. Get a clue! Get your accusations straight. If you have to know everything there sir. I'm His Agent! OK! And if you really want to know everything. I personally timed these workout measurables.

40 yard dash 4.27 seconds
Vertical 44"
Broad 11' 01"
3Cone 6.69
10 yard split 1.45
20 yard shuttle 4.05

Patriot fans should be excited my client plays for their team!

No, I agree. He had some ugly drops for someone I argue has good hands. Hence the smiley guy guy :) But I consider straight drops more a function of lack of concentration, surprise or bad timing. Others may not. I think of good hands as more of catch radius and strength to get after it, grab it and hold it. And then yes, of course, don't drop it. That's good hands to me.

I'm not really stressed about KT's 2013 drops. That was 2013. The guy can just plain get open. Period. And that skill is forever! I foresee in 2014 the game will slow down for KT so he'll be more consistent with his routes and arrive with simply more poise and concentration as he improves into a 2nd year player. Once he stops making catches so hard for himself, it will further showcase his excellent -but underrated IMO- hands and body control.

Edit: Just read an article on PF news section with direct quotes from KT, where he says he was literally overwhelmed at times last season. This is where I pinpointed his catch sloppiness originated from earlier in the thread. Nerves, not lack of skill - and the best we could hope for. He'll gain experience, calm down and continue to get open. What good is the opposite? A rookie WR with nerves of steel and skills of veal. No improvement coming there. Maybe a cutlet. Article also finally confirms KT had a lingering hip issue that probably contributed to his dropoff.
