The season is, mercifully, upon us. Training camp officially opens today for our boys. While they won't actually practice today (that starts tomorrow), there will be news coming out of Gillette. Belichick, Nink, Mankins, and McCourty will speak with the media beginning at 8:30. Here's the link: Bill Belichick, captains meet with media today to open training camp | Boston Herald

Post any news, notes, tweets, reports, and all that other **** in this thread. Welcome to the 2014 season, ladies and gentlemen, and enjoy the ride.

I started another thread, but Belichick has confirmed that Gronk and Mankins are cleared to practice starting tomorrow.

More notes from the first day of TC, this time with regard to McCourty's contract talks...

The Patriots have not reached out to Devin McCourty in regard to a contract extension since the two sides initiated dialogue earlier this offseason, according to a source.

That's not alarming, or even unpredictable, but it's worth sharing since McCourty was again asked today about being in the final year of his rookie deal. The Herald reported June 6 the Pats reached out to express interest in re-signing their Second-Team All-Pro safety, but the conversation didn't go any further. Again, that's typical dialogue for this type of contract discussion.

"You just play football," McCourty said this morning as the Patriots arrived for training camp. "Contract year, I think, is what everyone else talks about. As a player, it’s just another year in the league. It’s my fifth year in the league. I still want to get better as a player. … As you get older, year by year, you just want to continue to get better using what you’ve learned mentally and still try to develop and get better physically."

Will any site live stream from training camp on open practices? Want to see how the team looks. But sadly camp is a bit too far from Sweden.

Lets hope we can lock up mccourty soon. Heres for a healthy camp for all the guys!

Interested to hear about browner and what he can do for us. We all know what revis brings.

Patriots.com would be your best bet. I watched the joint practices with the Eagles last year on there. I don't know if they'll do all open practices but you can check.

I think espn on site at foxboro tomorrow , will get glimpse but not a stream

OT, but notable since he was a player who was talked about quite a bit here. Apparently injuries have ended another career earlier than would otherwise have been expected:

The Seattle Seahawks will enter the 2014 season with one less player than they expected to have.

Per a league source, receiver Sidney Rice has decided to retire from football. The source says that the 27-year-old Rice’s decision arises from his history of concussions.

I wish him well in his post-NFL life.

Some encouraging signs with Tavon Wilson according to reports things may have “clicked” for the former second round pick in 2012.

Devin McCourty had some nice things to say about Tavon as well.

In my opinion, Tavon Wilson is the most physically gifted safety we have not named Devin McCourty. If he has finally put it together and he can correct the mistakes he was making in coverage I think there is potential for him to beat out Harmon and Chung for the starting spot.

Not really TC but another idiot posted on another forum I visit. Says bills are winning the division this year. I actually spit out some of my water at work. No joke. What a goon

Sammy Watkins is all the rage; he is already getting Randy Moss comparisons from 3 days of training camp. The Bills have a nice team, but they are missing the key ingredient – a franchise QB. At the end of the day, the Jets, Bills, and Dolphins all have very talented offenses and defenses but they have questionable QBs and this is a QB league.

And go figure. He won't take a bet with me...believes it my ass

Am I the only one who got goosebumps when I read the title of this thread? I can't believe the day has finally come. If the first day of training camp feels like this, then I can't wait for September 7!

feels like i have been waiting for years and years for football to come back. Soak it in..becasue it's about to FLY by!

Last minute surgery wednesday and I miss the opening day of training camp :(. I should be ready to go Friday and am looking forward from all the Patsfans updates today. :)
