Manziel's an idiot!

Here's why we like to be "shocked" by this guy. He's not decent enough to acknowledge our precious feelings. It's so inconsiderate to grind our collective noses in the "I've got it so good" outcome he's getting in life. Big fan boo-hoo... and it's the same with all these guys when they're making their 20-something decisions, and we're 30 or 40 or 50 etc.-something fans, who do a 9-to-5 or the equivalent, and strain what remaining emotions we have left on Sunday hoping that these millionaires succeed on the field.

We don't need reminders that their lives can be debauched playgrounds if they choose. We're relatively lucky in NE at QB. But then we had the murderer at TE, some DUIs an DUIDs, an embarrassing gronk pic from time to time. Irving Fryer's domestic troubles.

We don't like that these guys are pretty much set for life, if we so much as know their names, and they still seem bent on effing themselves up.

Even middle class people have a slog of it most days. Don't get me wrong - these guys have to study their craft too, and they have physical training demands the rest of us just wouldn't accept. But they do have extensive time off, they do play a game for a living, and maybe most to the point, they do make their whole lives happen in a 10-year career (or closer to the league average, a 3-year career... in which case they probably have another gig, but a good start.)

The rest of us put in a lifetime to save the amount they get as a pot sweetener in the difference between one offer and another on a given contract.

So I'm sorry, yes, we do want the illusion that they're these great kids with natural humility... nobody wants to think their "hero" 20 years their junior would make the "brushing something off his shoulder" gesture if they were in an elevator with them. That's what the mountain-of-coke, 8-girlfriends-and-a-lambo, still-going-to-jail routine evokes, I think... people not appreciating how good their life is in the first place.

Stipulated, that's all subconscious... it's just the reason stuff like this pisses off the average fan
Alternatively you could just recognise that Manziel is probably a ****head.

I really can't see what's bad about flooting around on an inflatable swan with a liquor bottle. Lots of NFL players to go Vegas. The difference with Manziel is that the media is obsessed about him. So they will write about everything he does. Lots of guys go to Vegas. It's just that the media isn't obsessing about them so Manziel looks much worse.
I agree that people should be alllowed to live their life, but if you don't see what everyone else sees (that this kid is heading for a crash and burn) I guess that's you're prerogative.

Don't see to many shots of Brady that would lead you to believe he's a party animal. If you want to be the best, you should try to conduct yourself like the best. He's got washed up by 27 written all over him.

The shame of it will be that he has some talent and he'll waste it.

He's still just a kid and has time to clean up his act, but that's up to him.
If he can keep his off-field antics to what his teammates and the average fan will tolerate (remember how exercised some folks out here were when Gronk was photographed partying after the most recent SB loss?), then all will be forgiven if he delivers between the lines.

Brady went out with prominent alcoholic Tara Reid back in the day, for what that's worth.

I'm sure that there are nights where Brady isn't studying the playbook or working out. What does it mather what the player does during that time as long as it's legal? All players have free weekends and free nights where they don't work out. What does it mather if they party or watch a movie during that time?

That's no big deal. Every young, unattached stud in the country with some cache and some cash dated the Rent-A-Floozalebrity back then.

I'm foaming at the mouth at the thought of what Manziel can possibly say when drilled by reporters on this picture. I mean, really...what kind of excuse can he possibly muster up that would sound remotely reasonable?
Answering the reporters' questions is the easy part (some version of "I'm just not going to talk about it" repeated a couple hundred times until they get tired of hearing it).

The hard part is going to be playing in that Division and being part of a cohesive locker room if he keeps doing what it looks like he was doing.

OTOH, he'd get along with Josh Gordon famously.

I don't care who the player is, if there is a photo of them in a bathroom stall getting ready to stick a rolled up bill up their nose then I am going to have serious concerns about their future as a pro athlete. What player's do or do not decide to do is really their business and it is their future that is on the line, as well as all that goes with it. That's not to say they don't have a responsibility to their team's and to those signing their check but as long as they are prepared and produce there shouldn't be much to say about their offtime unless it involves criminal behavior.

I would rather journalists get real evidence before they try to discredit someone. It may be true, but what happened to journalist integrity
if you really think there is still any semblance of journalistic integrity either in reporting on the NFL or in general, then I have a very nice bridge in downtown New York to sell you...a little old and in need of some repair, but it does help connect Manhattan to Brooklyn quite effectively

too late...Manchild has already been slotted...pigeonholed as a party boy. It only gets worse from here on out. Every simp with a CSB diploma will be staking out every second of his life with mics and cameras rolling. He may be "just a kid" but "kids" do stupid shee-it all the time and when HE does it will go viral nationally.

Snorting coke in bathroom stalls and posing for pics while drunk holding a magnum of champagnee is the fuel that has set this inferno to raging. He can't unring the bell. What will rehabilitate his image is a breakout rookie season. In CLEVELAND. You can get pretty long odds on THAT bet.

Besides, wasn't that photo from TMZ?

If Hoyer is healthy, I doubt he's even going to play this year.

I think the irony is that the straight identity he was being steamrolled into in Texas, has become, thru his rebellion, and even steeper, more inescapable identity--the cool frat rat, or however you want to name it.
