Not too early for 2000 to 2005,those guys have proven worthy and several are no longer here anyway

Caldwell and Thomas?...Maybe a bit early - More so obviously with Thomas..Caldwell proved to be a decent WR - better suited as a 3rd stringer though IMO,Caldwell is not nor will he ever be a starting #1 or #2 NFL receiver - as a 3rd guy to come in and perform? yes

He was our WR star last year cause we really had no one...Totally different scenerio this year.

Agree or disagree with these picks?

Colvin, Phifer, Compton, Patten, Antowain Smith?

I'm too busy, but there are some names if someone wants to fit them in.

I think Gaffney will prove to be better than Caldwell too.

Seau?

While he does not start, I would put Hochstein on that list. The guys is invaluable and almost is always playing a significant role at some point in the season and he never misses a beat no matter what position.

There's no way we don't include Ted Washington in that grouping and over Traylor to boot!?!? He sealed the middle for us in the short time he was here with us but was a huge (pun intended) cog in the machine that won SB38.

He wasn't a FA, though. They got him in a trade with Chicago.

So who is THE best? I say Rodney Harrison.

I gotta say Vrabel. Harrison though cut from SD was considered a pretty good signing by us, not to the extent of Colvin but it was a blockbuster Patriots signing year because of the two of them. Vrabel came out of no where for me anyways.

I agree about Vrabel. He's had the most production out of anyone on that list. I'm hoping AD produces more tho

Maybe not the best of any of these 8 selections from Patriot64 but if you look for most valuable signing in the FA era with BB ,I think you have to say of the list Reche Caldwell was biggest pickup,No,we did not win the SB and No,Reche did not make the catches he should have in the AFCCG but without picking him up last year who was Brady going to throw to as main WR? - Kevin Kight?..

That being said it is hard for me to imagine Reche being anything more than Cheeerleader most games this upcoming year unless something happens with injury to Donte,Wes,Washington (who will make the team),Gaffney (who played better than Reche when he came late in the year)

Those would be my choses.

But honestly Rodney Harrison. When he plays we almost always win. Its that simple.

Antwain Smith should be on that list. He was vital to the 2001 team. He certainly was more productive than Fauria. Ditto, David Patten.

I could be wrong, but I get the impression that it is a "best of..." type list. Smith deserves mention, but not over Vrabel, if that is the case.

Agreed. Smith should at least be mentioned. The Pats had Grier draft pick Kevin Faulk and no one else heading into 2001. To Kevin's credit, he worked hard to prove himself to the new staff. BB would later comment that Faulk was a "productive player". That's very high praise, coming from BB. But I digress.

To me it's Rodney Harrison. He solidifed the secondary, which was coming off a poor 2002 season and was instrumental in winning 2 SBCs. The secondary was never the same since his injury at Pittsburgh.

If we're talking about the best "deal" then I have to agree. Nobody (outside of perhaps BB) expected Vrabel to be as good as he has been.

Then again people were also saying Rodney was "done". If we're talking about who was the best player we picked up in free agency, I still say it's Rodney. He should have made the Pro Bowl after the 2003 season - and 2004.
