Being Pats fans migrated to DC, I enjoy the commedy show that is the Redskins front office, and occassionally view the Redskins forum. Found this to be an interesting thread. Don't see the pats pulling the trigger for obvious reasons, but enjoyed reading perceptions of other teams fans concerning the pats:

they just listed a possibility..

its not us saying trade down or trade up like we have asked

Unless we were convinced that either Patrick Willis is the next Ray Lewis, or LaRon Landry is the next Ronnie Lott, and that James Sanders and Pierre Woods are future starters, there is no way that deal would ever get done.

It's a funny thread--because of the Skins fans obvious respect for NE.

They've got a guy there (bubba)
who is only 42 years old
... but has over 53,000 posts already !

Thanks,Hoss,that was interesting.
Nice to hear an uncolored view of the Pats FO from fans in the NFC,

That was great!

exelant, thanks for the read. even their fans give our FO more credit than that:rocker: :rocker:

I put this out there last week as a possibility - noting the skins need to get out of #6 and get our two 1st rounders.

While not offering equal value on the draft value chart, actually works out quite fair when one considers that signing a #6 will cost more than signing the Patriots two picks - making it a fair trade.

Everyone says there's no way the Patriots will trade up - that BB would never do it because he doesn't think #6 offers the same value as two lower 1st round choices.

Yeah - and I hear a lot of fans lamenting the fact that we were stuck with Richard Seymour's rookie contract and the lack of value that gave us.

Don't rule it out - it makes sense... but the irony on this rumor is that they are likely writing about a rumor/idea started here.

At least most of the Skins fans understand that trade is a pipe dream. Their owner is stupid, but the fans aren't. LOL. I almost feel sorry for them.

I actually feel sorry for their fans. Anybody got a trade value chart? I think the Pats are moving around and I wouldn't be shocked with a move up.

Not both #1's though. A #1 and late I could see for the right player.

Even with #2 gone, they've got no room for lower picks if the hit a DB and LB theu like.

they do one thing we don't, value draft picks. They find starters in the later rounds, we seldom do. They may be willing to part with their 2 firsts for our first, but that's about it.

And hence my other point, the Pats do find talent despite having later round picks each year. Their team still hasn't seemed ot miss a beat since 2001 when they won their first super bowl. I would prefer a middle range first round pick in a trade down, along with a 2nd and 3rd, which should be doable hopefully.
gettin a lot of respect from fans i really didnt think were that classy, guess i was wrong

thanks (blushing)

It would be a great trade for us and the numbers work out exactly right. The Pats do wheel and deal and they have had a very active offseason with free agency. To make a trade like that the Pats would have to feel that they already have most of their roster decided (therefore many of the picks wouldn't have a roster spot) and that they are just a player or two away from completing the puzzle. Under that scenario, if that player fell to us, it's possible they would do such a trade. The intriguing guys (in my limited understanding of the Pats) would probably be Peterson or Landy - one of which will be available at #6. To me not likely this would unfold, but not impossible either. Still I'd love that trade.
ive actually thought this myself when looking at our depth chart, the fact that there is no way all our draft picks this yr will make the team, so we def could look to move up in some spots

Its new england.

They make the rest of the league look like fools. Come on now.

wow, thats just too funny

I doubt New England does that either, but it's not out of the question. They have traded up before, for Graham and (I think) Warren. There were also plenty of rumors they tried to move up for Dewayne Robertson and even Sean Taylor. It was pretty well established a couple of years ago that they were out maneuvered when they tried to move up for Vernon Carey.
wow, they sure know a lot about us
they seem very knowledgable actually
this guy is from concord, nh though

The only player I could see them moving up to take would be Patrick Willis. They have gotten by fine without the big name receiver (that eliminates CJ).

They don't need a QB. They play a 3-4, so there isn't anyone worth taking at number six that would play on their defensive line.

Not too mention that they're pretty young there as well.

Landry is a possibility, but they tend to almost neglect their secondary.

Their solid at tackle, and Joe Thomas won't be there.

They took a RB in the 1st round last year.

So, who else besides Patrick Willis would they want. And I don't think Willis is worth that much. I think it would be more likely to see them trade up and get Paul Posluszny in the middle of the 1st round. He's a guy who could play inside or outside.

again really surprised they know all this bout our team
then again we are in the spotlight a lot

If the Patriots ever made that trade - which obviously they wouldn't - they would then start systematically trading BACK on draft day, finding the guys they want and ending up with more than they gave up to begin with.

wowowowowowowow

2 1st, 3rd and 4th...that would leave us with what? 1 or 2 picks on the first day in the 3rd round?

Our two #1s don't equal the #6 pick on the draft value chart - but I think one can make a case that given the discrepancy in salary for each (with #6 getting much more than two late 1st round picks combined) such a trade represents value.

Teams that are consistently in the Top 10 are actually penalized in my opinion. Often unable to trade down, they are "forced" to use high picks, and devote high amounts of cap space to single players rather than spreading that around with quality lower round choices.

When this happens year after year after year the problem gets worse - and if a top 10 pick fails to live up to expectations (as they often do) it makes the situation that much worse.

The Redskins would much rather have the Patriots two first round picks than their sole #6 I believe - regardless of the trade value chart, for the reasons mentioned above. I'm not ruling it out.

Both number 1's, a 3rd and a 4th in return for #6 from the Skins? That I'm willing to rule out.

i know, it feels so good to be the envy
heck even in 2000 (our fourth yr in a row gettin a worse record) it looked like we could be headed in the wrong direction at 5-11
i remember my mom always sayin to me and my dad (i was 16 at the time) "why do you guys still watch them?"
and i remember seein that commercial that showed the titans, it was an nfl commercial, and it showed them bein down, and all the fans stickin with them, then when they were up and winnin all the fans lovin it even more and it said "this is why we watch"
and me and my dad are like see, thats why
cuz true fans go through thick and thin
not just when we're winning
but being there when we're losing will only make it that much sweeter when we finally do win it all
and oh boy did it!

Sure do,and I hope we never forget it because it's the bad and the ugly which makes the good even better.

As to the Skins fans, you have to feel their frustration. It's one thing to know certain players suk;at least you can hope for a trade,cut,whatever- but it's quite another to know your FO is clueless. That's a situation requiring major surgery and probably won't happen anytime soon. Nasty place to be.

Confidence in their front office is definitely shakey at best. This one, referring to Vinny Cerrato, Skins' "director of player personnel" killed me:

"I agree that this probably won't happen, but it is fun to think about. If the Skins fell into this trade what I'd like to see them do is trade the first 1st round pick for a 2d and 3d. That would leave us with a total of 1 first, 1 second, 2 thirds, and 1 fourth. Sweet Creamery Butter! here's my draft with those picks.

1. Tank Tyler ( unless we got blind lucky and got Carriker )
2. Brandon Merriweather - Safety
3. David Harris - MLB
3. Josh Wilson - CB
4. Dan Buzin - DE

Here are my predicted Vinnie Picks with the same numbers
1. Legs Peterson - Punter from The University of Guam. Has been know to punt the ball over 80 yds, but will only play naked - can see a problem with DC winters
2. Manuel Balboa - Jerry Jones personal gardner. JJ has assured Vinnie that this is the man to spruce up Dan Snyder cottage on the Eastern Shore.
3. Skip " Call me Skippy " Walderman - Towel boy for the University of North Dakota at Pierre - Vinnie pointed out "Day after day, game after game, he continues to provide the cleanest best folded linen in college football. We have to have him!"
3. Mike Ditka - Vinnie Proclaims, " Given enough time we are convinced we can talk him out of retirement."
4. Mike Ditka - Vinnie again, " We want to make it crystal clear just how much we want Mike Ditka on our team."
