TE Jermichael Finley medically cleared; visiting "mystery" team

I am not sure they can get anyone who doesn't have an injury concern at this point.

Not unless Tony Gonzalez comes out of retirement and that is unlikely at least until Novemberish.

Given the choice between the two I would take Keller, he's a more reliable player imo and I think he would fit better on this team.

Concussion is a tricky thing, Finley is one hit away from out of the league. Plus he is having too many drops in the career, not a reliable target.

Full medical clearance or not, the guy had spinal fusion surgery. When I saw the hit live, I wondered if he might be dead. I'll believe that he can withstand NFL contact when I see it. If we can't have Keller for similar money, a low-cost flyer might be worthwhile. Otherwise, no thanks. I'd rather take my chances with Keller's annihilated knee, even.

After Ronaldo the soccer player who blown his knees many times in different ways I believe anyone can rehab well from knee surgeries even if not to ever be the same, neck on the other hand is something to not mess around, especially working in the middle field, making his catches with his back against Db's, this guy should retire.

I have had a spine fusion and I never played a down in the NFL after it.

I honestly don't feel there's a ridiculous amount between these guys.

Both have suffered pretty big injuries, Finley has a few issues with drops but he's certainly had the better statistics than Keller...whether you can put that down to the poor passing game of the Jets is up for debate certainly.

I wouldn't mind having both in camp but these are both starting calibre TEs and they won't like having to compete against each other...you could toss a coin...I'd take either.

Problem with Finley is the thing he's most well known for is dropping the ball. Don't want the Patriots signing this guy. Would definitely prefer Keller but his knee might be too far gone.

Count me among those who would prefer Keller. Age aside, the two have very similar tread on their tires: 72 games versus 70. Contrary to what I've read, the two have had nearly identical production in their careers -- a difference of one-tenth of a yard per game -- despite the Rodgers vs. Sanchez thing. Neck is much scarier than ACL (which is something that doesn't seem to frighten BB at all these days). And the popular sentiment is that Keller might come at a lesser price.

as the #3 behind Carlson & Nicklas instead of one of Jake Ballard, Darren Fells or Andy Hardy.

Agreed -- they're under zero pressure to cut him since he's playing for short money. They can afford to be picky about trade compensation.

That said, take a look at the draft picks spent on iffy TEs this year. A **3rd** on Richard Rogers, a joker type who's a non-factor as an inline blocker...but who runs a 4.87 40? Yikes. So I'd gladly spend a pick on Housler, even in the last year of his contract.

Rumors are that Ballard is coming around and looks good. It's two years after knee surgery so that seems right on time. Arians prefers 'Y' type TEs and Housler is an 'F' and being shopped.

If given a choice, I'm still more keen to the idea of Keller over Finley. I've just been more impressed with Keller, especially his hands compared to Finley.
