OT: Hernandez indicted in double Homicide back in 2012

He hangs around in nightclubs with known gang ties. The common patron of a bar could see that. If your putting out that type of contract money which affects the future of your team and cap space. Then shame on the organization. Hernandez said when he got his big contract money, that he was appreciative of the Pats for giving his life a second chance. What was that all about

His 2nd chance remarks were a clever sociopath appearing to take blame for past bad conduct while moving foreword with a big $50K donation to Kraft's charity. Nobody suspected the charming Ted Bundy either, not even crime writer Ann Rule who worked with him.

I agree with you, that at the beginning I thought the Pats could have not known any of this. But as more and more facts came out, I dumped my denial theme. Think about the town you live in or hang out in. If you are high profile and you go to eat at the local diner, everyone is talking about how they had seen you there. This guy hung out with gang members and a known drug dealer. Got pulled over by State Police with that known drug dealer driving intoxicated. You are who you hang with. Again I do not think they knew of the murders, but I do know they knew more than they admit to. I'm sure some players on the team knew of his friends. They put production over character. Huge mistake

Ted Bundy was a loner who did not have friends. Isolated from society. AH was a high profile citizen who did have friends. The wrong kind, but friends. He was no mystery

Initially I was very critical of Pats and their security guy for not checking out AH better before the new contract and for the front office not having a viable behavior clause in the contract. I stand by the front office criticism but as to security I'm just not clear on how an effective sociopath like AH could be detected. It's not practical and probably an invasion of privacy to follow players around late at night on the off season.
Hernandez was out a lot, I saw him out several times (prior to the extension, I do not go out barely ever now a days). When he was out he drew a crowd, and he was always with 5-10 of his homies, he was also big into picking up girls. I knew a flight attendant who was out at Wonder Bar and Hernandez strolled up and said “I’m Aaron Hernandez” she resisted the urge to drop to her knees on the spot but that was his expectation. Hernandez danced on tables, spent money as if he was P-Diddy, and unlike many celebrities he did not keep to himself, he got right into the mix. The other thing about Hernandez is girls adored him, and were in awe of him. For these reasons, I find it surprising that these altercations in clubs and outside of them went completely unnoticed or unmentioned, and nothing ever got back to the Patriots. Take for instance, when Hernandez was pulled over with Bradley going 105mph chasing a station wagon (likely his next victim that narrowly escaped) the security of the Patriots did not get a phone call from the state police “Hey just wanted to give you a heads up we caught one of your players going 105mph with a drunk ex-convict driving the car”.

I understand an invasion of privacy but this kid was not doing this stuff behind 15’ ft walls, he was on Shawmut Ave pulling drive by shooting, getting into altercations in Cure nightclub and Rumor nightclub, hiding guns under cars outside Rhode Island strip clubs, dancing in the headlights of his car with a pack of blunts in his hand at gas stations, and countless other things. He was not being discrete, or living a double life, he was living his life as a gangster who played football. He had a pretty face, dimples, a million dollar smile, and all the football talent in the world so nobody bother to look past that and it will leave on this franchise for the next 10 years.

It is a damn shame that the Patriots aren't run by the geniuses in this forum, they would do a much much better job.

For some reason i can't remember any Patriot fans opposing the new deal for Hernandez, in fact if I remember correctly most here were lauding the way he had turned his life around and suggesting Gronkowski take a page out of Hernandez book and get his act together the same way. I even remember people talking about how dedicated Hernandez was to take time out of his offseason to go to California just to "work out with Brady."

I don't care what people think the Patriots organization knew or did not know. They were not there when these murders took place. Hernandez allegedly was. If he pulled the trigger, then he, and only he is to blame.
He's a grown man, not a 2 year old child. Are you trying to tell me that a 20 something year old man does not know right from wrong? He needs someone to hold his hand?
The Patriots are responsible for what he did when he was at the facility. During those hours he was at work. They are employers not babysitters. After he left their facilities, it WAS HERNANDEZ'S RESPONSIBILITY to take care of himself. This guy is a grown man. He knew what he was doing, and believe me, if a person does not want you to know what they are doing, YOU WILL NOT KNOW. I'm living proof of it. I was married to a lying scumbag for 10 years. He did some dirty .... behind my back. I never knew. Hell his friends knew and they covered for him. I didn't even suspect him. Unfortunately for him, one of his infidelities walked up to our house one day with baggage and he couldn't lie any more. One by one all the lies that I never suspected came out. I couldn't believe that this was the same man that I committed my life to. Some people say that I was a fool to trust him. He was my husband. He earned my trust before we married. I trusted him completely. Now I know better. I don't trust anybody like that anymore, not even family .
It's not the same thing, but I understand how the Pats could have missed all of this.
They trusted Hernandez. He lied to them and he lied to us fans too. Remember the BS that came out of his mouth after he signed that big contract? I believed him, and I'm sure many others in this forum did too. He lied to all of us.

You just described anywhere from 30% to 50% of all NFL players.

Are you serious right now Ivan? Are you that consumed with being a homer that you cannot recognize that Aaron Hernandez committed one of the worst crime a person could commit on one of the most popular streets in the biggest city in the state, and then went on to sign a $40M contract a month later and play an entire NFL season. You do not have to be genius to recognize that the Patriots made mistakes here; you would have to be an idiot not to recognize them.

I stand behind the Patriots and their decision to draft and extend Hernandez, I know they acted in the best intentions and unfortunately oversights, lack of due diligence, and ignorance led to this horrific and tragic outcome. They made a mistakes, big and catastrophic ones you have to be able to see that.

I believed Hernandez when he said the things he said, and to be completely honest I never cared enough to even consider or research what he did off the field. I supported a player that was really a monster, I picked him as my breakout player back in 2012 said he was going to dominate, I was devastated when he injured his ankle against Arizona. I made a big mistake and made a big misjudgment, the Patriots did too, it does not matter if it was on Hernandez to do the right thing, it was on me (and the team) not to be ignorant in who I support.

I was a big OJ Simpson fan, what an idiot, how could I not have known he was a murderous psychopath.........

I know everything but somehow i missed that. Shame on me, shame on me........... and the Buffalo Bills and 49ers, and the HOF voters, shame on me and them...................

Forget it Ivan..he's going to continue to bash you or anyone else who disagrees with his own perfect grasp of the entire convoluted Hernandez situation...and if you disagree with him he'll just post the same regurgitated crap a thousand times to up his post count closer to 10,000 in under a year. He's the best fan ever and he's the best poster ever and he's going to win...whatever the hell it is he thinks he's winning in this manic depressive run he's on.

If everything about Hernandez' behavior and his likelihood to commit murders was so obvious, why didn't anyone notice?

Before he basically left a map for the police back to his front door after killing someone, I don't recall any chatter here or elsewhere that he was a bad and dangerous person. There were no rumors on sites like PFT or Barstool Sports. We've seen pictures of Gronkowski out partying over the years, but I don't remember any of Hernandez. No posts here from Patriots fans who had seen him out and were concerned about his company or behavior. Nothing that caused people in general, football fans or not, to go to the police or media about him. No comments from coaches or teammates that would lead you to believe they were concerned about him.

So you have to wonder, if the signs about Hernandez were clear as you claim, why did everyone from the media, to the police, to his co-workers, to the public, to his family, keep quiet about it? Either it's a huge conspiracy or things weren't that obvious.

everyone defended D-Jax saying that most NFL players grew up poor and still have ties to people from their neighborhood

In most cases not knowing is a mistake. The question you have to ask yourself is could the Patriots have known? Could they have investigated his off the field life prior to making such a significant investment in him, could they have monitored the people he was keeping company with? They could have, they chose not to.

OJ Simpson killed his wife and the man she was involved with years after retiring from the NFL. They are incomparable both in crimes and in situations.

The media, fans, and posters on here do not have high-level intelligence systems and security personnel working for them, and they were not writing Hernandez a check for $40M. The Patriots did, the signs were there, and they did not look for them because they did not want to see them. They believed the best, and that belief bit them in the ass.

Several things...
First as to hanging in clubs with hot flight attendants going gaga in awe over me. I hope that does not make you suspect me as a cereal killer.
Secondly, others pointed out that a couple years ago Kraft fired his MA State Police head of security and hired a British (I believe) security guy with no connections to the local police. This could have cut off the informal network of communication we all know exists.
Finally, Ivan is right, maybe not with the percentages, but a substantial body of NFL players do hang out at clubs at night with dubious associates from past life. It is what it is.

I am not saying it makes you a suspect, I said what I said to explain that he was in the eye of the public, his altercations in night clubs were seen, and the Patriots could have obtained the information about them had they done a little leg work. As far as hanging with gang members or former gang members, yeah sure many players do that, but are they in cars going 105mph down I90 chasing other cars with the driver drunk, probably not, at least not without repercussion. The security director being fired does not really matter, you would still expect them to have some line of communication with the local and state authorities.

Like I said in my prior post, what it really comes down to is whether or not you believe the Patriots could have known this kid was troubled if they made the attempts, I believe they could have but they chose to trust him at his word and that was an unfortunate error in judgment.

Only one club altercation made the news and that was with a Jets fan in Providence, if going to bars and nightclubs means you are a gang banging murderer you can go ahead and arrest have the population that's in their mid 20s
