That's just bogus and absolutely wrong. All you're measure "pass rushers" by is sacks?! Nonsense. Easley will provide consistent disruption and pressure (vital parts to the pass rush... See: AFC CHAMPIONSHIP 2013) up the middle. He is the very definition of what we needed...someone to wreck havoc and make QB's uncomfortable in their pockets and force stupid throws into our ridiculously talented secondary.

I just don't think you get it kid.

Sacks are overrated. Going up against say Peyton Manning, what the Pats will want Easley to do is collapse the pocket from the inside and force Manning outside where he is prone to make mistakes.

Bill Belichick typically drafts defensive ends with long arms. I don't see the fit with Dominique Easley at defensive end.

Overall, I have mixed emotions with the selection of Dominique Easley with the 29th overall pick. First concern is the long term durability of Easley's knees, taking account two torn ACLs during Easley's collegiate career. Second concern is whether Easley can hold up against the run.

33" arms aren't short. and as I said, I don't envision him being a DE all the time, just enough to increase his value to us more than just being a sub-rusher.

FWIW...

Mike Loyko ‏@NEPD_Loyko 4s
Just got it confirmed to me "Seattle got their guy stolen from them" "They packed up shop after that pick".

Thats why SEA traded their pick

I wasn't sure that Loyko was actually talking about Easley, but if he's right about all this, it really speaks volumes for Easley and why the Patriots picked him where they did.

EDIT: Mike Loyko ‏@NEPD_Loyko 1h
#Seahawks were all over Easley at #32 .. noway #Patriots could have traded out. Dan Quinn is Easley's mentor

Easley was NOT getting out of the 1st Round. I thought Seattle might have leapfrogged NE.. Seattle was taking him at 32

Exactly. I mentioned the AFC Ship' game as an exact example of what we DIDN'T have in terms of pass rush.

Force QB's to scramble around, not let them get comfortable.. and if they so choose to tuck it and run.. #51 #54 #91 will be waiting in the second level (And possible another draftee after the weekend)

The one player that Belichick has the most effusive praise for this season was Geno Atkins. I dont think it should be surprising that he targeted someone with who checks all the same boxes, from work ethic, quick twitch, even measurables, Easley is Atkins draft doppelganger.

I'm surprised due to size, but if Kiper thinks he's a bad pick (2-3) I like him.
Love the pick. Here's why: The Pats are going pressure! About damned time! BB went out and got two pressure corners and now he's going to force the opposing QBs into faster decisions. The only way to do this was with Clowney, Donald, Karr, Mack or Easley...or by bringin up Collins, which I hate because he's potentially elite in LB coverage. When Shazier went to Pittsburgh (thought that was a reach, but a good risk for them), my thoughts of rotating Collins up went with him.

Look at the other DLs available:

Timmy Jernigan and Louis Nix - run stoppers. We've got Wilfork and Siliga and Kelly. if they took either, it'd tell me they're worried about Vince.

Stephan Tuitt should be good. Not overly exciting, not a great upside, but good.
Ra'Shede Hageman has great potential, but is NOT consistent (and is also raw, despite being older after a two-year Mormon Mission - he's older than Armond Armstead).

Kareem Martin and Trent Murphy...outside pressure. WE need INSIDE pressure.

Love the pick. There was no one left on the board with remotely the ability to disrupt a backfield over this guy. As for Ward, he's a bigger risk than Easley, imo. With that slight frame, the NFl will shatter him. And we don't need another small receiver - Lee Doesn't Fit! maybe Allen Robinson a bit down the line, as he's played our type of offense and is bigger.

Going forward:
Would love to see a swap for Mallett and a third/fourth to get them up higher in the second. Xavier Su'a'filo, David Yankey, Cyrus Kuwandijo (sp?), Morgan Moses and Joel Bitonio are all out there.

Next two picks OL and either Kareem Martin or ASJ/Niklas. Then Trey Burton and the in-line TE if they take Martin.

Jordan Tripp and one of Marcus Martin/Brian Stork/Travis Swanson...round it out. Throw in a running back and a QB to sit on the bench and we're good to roll.

Oh, and let's sign Dustin Keller and Davin Joseph...

A+ at 29.

Hageman Mormon? I think he just wasn't ready for college and had to prep academically.

Lots of IFs by Prisco. Would've been picked higher IF he didn't blow out his knees, might be a star IF he's healthy. And guess what, I might have been a billionaire IF I created Microsoft, but guess what, I didn't. Too many IFs to be wasted on a 1st round pick.

I've another IF for you.

If you were right, I'd agree with you.. but I don't.. ;)

I think you shouldn't put as much emphasis on the injuries to a pro-athlete 22 year old than you would with someone much older.

What about Rob Ninkovich though? And you clearly missed the bit where I repeated that I don't see him as a permanent DE which makes the Chandler Jones comparison a bit bizarre.

You figure they spent their first round pick on a part time player?

No. I said earlier in the thread, and some weeks ago, that Easley increases his value because he can play DE too. Now I don't see him as a permanent fixture there, but considering his limitations in the run game, it will be nice to be able to get him on the field as a DE whilst also giving Nink and Jones a rest at times. I don't see him playing out there a lot, just a few snaps a game but I'll take any extra value that we can get.

And in terms of Easley being a part-time player, he's a sub-package guy. Thankfully, we spend most of our time in the sub-package.

He's undersized at DT. The only way he makes any sense as a 3 down player is if he kicks Ninkovich off the field on 1st down.

Either he's a part time player, or Ninkovich is about to become one.

Yes, that's pretty much what I said, albeit only at times. The best teams give their DLs rest, something we couldn't/didn't do last year. Easley helps accomplish that. Not sure why this is a debatable point.

Because you said "No" when I asked you a question to which you're now saying "Yes".
