Before Easley's ACL, he was being talked about someone who could get in the top 10. heck, there were plenty who rated him ahead of Aaron Donald. If you are moaning about Easley, you are clearly not interested in pressuring the passer because that's what Easley's going to do.

Why are you so convinced he can't come back strong? He already had a good year after the 2011 ACL. He rehabbed well enough from the second ACL to impress in his workouts. The guy is a workout warrior; the knees might be a complete non-factor.

Again I have to ask...

Why can't people here be bothered to read? Feel free to find where I said he can't come back strong.

if it's so deep, then why are you complaining? There is still a round 2 tomorrow and the WR class is deeper than the DE/DT class.

We could have taken such a risk in rounds 2 or 3. I'm not too upset with the pick though. If he stays healthy we'll probably have a great D-line with Jones-Wilfork-Easley-Ninkovich.

Regarding WR, Lee is #2 to Watkins IMO and was a BPA type pick. At this point, I'm fine rolling with Edelman/Dobson/Lafell/Amendola/Thompkins than taking a WR at 62 or 93.

Nope, no way. Easley was consistently projected as a 2nd rounder, and always with the proviso that "if his health checks out he could make it into the 1st."
I take it as a good thing Kiper called him a 2nd/3rd.

If it was BB's MO to take these risks in round one and hit on them, I doubt there'd be an issue. However, it's BB's MO to take these risks in round two and miss more often than hit. That's the problem here. He just took what used to be a reliable pick and turned it into a huge question mark, and he didn't have to do that. There were better options available.

At the very best, this is taking Gronk in round 1 instead of round 2. At worst, the Patriots just drafted Ras-I Dowling at #29.

Mankins popped his ACL in college too and the Pats took him, and he was projected 3rd round. Then it turned out SF wanted him next pick and wound up with David Baas.

Lol so basically your mind is already made up

I guess your is.

This is a reach pick. There is no doubt about it. But if he pans out, who cares.

But the recent memory of Tavon and Ras-I is the reason why people have their arms up.

first thing that came to mind after the pick was made . why take such a risk with your 1st rounder on a guy thats coming off 2 serious injuries? isnt that something you do later on in the draft. makes me nervous.

One injury to one knee v. same injury to both knees.

Big difference.

We'll hear about "wanted to trade down, couldn't", or "Knew someone else would be taking him". Neither is relevant to the issue.

For a team with its two best DTs coming off major injuries, this is a needless risk.

Two positives to consider
1)His first blown out knee still works...so he has that goin for him
2) He only blows out knees every other year.....which is nice

Someone said it above, but if Seattle was targetting easeley, then the pats did right in selecting him. the seahawks draft very well, especially on D.

people, relax. everyone is happy with the potential of Jamie Collins, a COMPLETE unknown to most of us last year. at least let easely get through mini camp.

Here is an article from NESN last week saying the Pats would have competing for Easley in round one:

The New England Patriots are “in the mix” to select Florida defensive tackle Dominique Easley in next week’s 2014 NFL draft, a source said Friday. The Patriots have some competition for Easley’s services, however, and they might be lucky if Easley falls to the No. 29 overall pick. The Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers are likely landing spots for the 6-foot-2, 288-pound interior defender.

Just got it confirmed to me "Seattle got their guy stolen from them" "They packed up shop after that pick"

So there were other teams that thought Easley was worth a first round pick. Let's stop acting like it was a major reach.

Easley is a pick I am okay with. He was the best talent on the board. I wish we could have traded back and gotten him but i get the feeling it was not a possibility within the last 7 days. I hate to take a risk on a 1st round pick but 29 is a horrible first round spot. You either need to trade up 10 picks to get a sure thing; pick and take a guy with at a red flag; pick a safe prospect who will start but be only solid not great or trade down and likely get a almost equally talent player 10 spots later.

All options have their benefits and draw backs. I think those for this year they are not good enough right now to win. They need a impact guy or multiple good players. This or trading back i think where i best chance to win this year cause only a "solid starter" would not have been enough and the redflags on guys like Ealy & Hageman were looking kinda big.

Remember when Logan Mankins was taken very late in RD 1, and BB etc. were skewered due to the fact that Mankins was a consensus Late 2nd RD pick. How did that one work out?

Wes Welker is not coming through that door ...

Yeah, all those teams that were going to be taking Easley, except they didn't. Let's stop pretending Loyko wasn't talking out of his ass.

Why do people feel that Lee was less of a risk than Easley. Lee has the worst hands of any of the first round receivers.

you had a good look at the Seahawks board? I would bet good money he was going there at 32.

It's weird because while I agree with this line of thinking I also disagree in a way. It's also unlike BB to spend the way he did on the secondary in FA, that then created an unBB-like situation with this pick as well. Interior/increased pass rush could be all we need to make this D completely dominant. When there are only 2 guys like that in the draft you have to think about getting outside of your comfort zone with draft positioning. I didn't love Easley @ 29. But I love Easley for this team.
