The New England Patriots will become the first NFL franchise to offer rebates to anyone who buys a jersey of a player who is no longer under contract to the team within a year of the purchase.

New England PatriotsThe Pats are hoping to give fans more confidence to buy jerseys.
On Thursday morning, the team sent an email about what it calls the jersey guarantee to everyone on its mailing list.

If fans purchase jerseys from the team website or stadium store and the players whose names are on the back leave the team within a year of purchase, those fans will receive a 25 percent discount toward the price of the next Patriots jersey they buy.

I'd like to read into this that #24 won't be a one and done with the Pats as I and many have speculated.

I don't buy jerseys. But if I did, I would consider buying Revis' jersey now.

i only buy jerseys of players after they leave and the proshop puts them on clearance.

Another stand up move by Bob Kraft. Well done sir.

I wouldn't call 25% off your next purchase a 'guarantee'. It's not even a 'rebate', it's a 'discount'. Given that the profit margin is pretty amazing on jerseys, they're still making a profit with the 25% discount. All in all, it's more truthful to call it an 'incentive' to buy the next jersey as opposed to a 'guarantee' on the last one.

Did nobody else read the headline and think they were promising to beat the Jets?

True true true. It's nothing more than a modest discount. Essentially this is a "Buy 1 jersey, get 25% off your second jersey at a later date" deal - but they've couched it in such a way as to attract a little media attention.

And, of course, there's no guarantee you'll get that 25% off.

Win-Win on both sides. Gets people to buy the jerseys from them instead of secondary markets. Although you're still better off buying the china knockoffs. Personally I think t-shirt jerseys are the way to go nowadays.

Nope. In the end, you're better off buying a "high quality" knock off for a fraction of the price and throwing it in the garbage if that player leaves.

Good PR move. Nothing more.

Even if you don't like knock-offs, you can still do much better than the full retail price you get at the Pats Pro Shop. :D

Or you could burn it if he goes to a rival.

Just another class move by the Pats.

i wonder if this means Revis jersey sales had been lackluster, still very nice move by them

Hmmm, I wonder why they didn't do this last year, oh wait, I'll tell you why.......Tim Tebow
