Setting this up now on draft day for those of us who don't like to bask in the extremes of the main forum where Chicken Littles will automatically label a guy they don't like a bust and the homers will, in kind, try to make them out to be a future Hall of Famer. Draft day is here! You can feel free to post all thoughts, news, rumors, and wisecracks here with the rest of the draftniks. I think most of us will be watching tonight until the Pats, ultimately, end up trading the pick.

Splendid idea. To kick it off, allow me to offer a little Patriots Draftnik Serenity Prayer:

BB, give us the perspective to remember
That even though we screamed about Tavon Wilson
We screamed about Sebastian Vollmer too,
And Darius Butler was a more popular pick
Than Rob Gronkowski,
And it will take years until anybody
Really knows anything.

Amen.

I just hope none of the meltdowns approach the level on those in 2011. I was just a lurker at the time, but I stopped reading this board for months after that display.

That read more like a longer winded haiku. Does your husband/boyfriend/girlfriend (hey, ya never know)/significant other ever get intimidated by your football prowess? :)

Husband, but thanks for keeping an open mind. :D As for intimidation, Mr. Patchick is a confident fellow with absolutely zero interest in football. He humors me.

But..."long-winded haiku," eh? OK, let's keep it simple:

BB, grant me the serenity to accept the binkies I cannot draft,
The courage to draft the ones I can,
And wisdom to know when to just trade out.

I'm still angry that my binkie went from a 2nd rounder to likely getting picked 15 spots before we pick. But I'll get over it and try not to vomit all over this thread.

Cheers to an exciting day! It's finally here! (And then we trade out of the 1st round, and I say the same thing all over again tomorrow).

Are there any relevant mocks coming out today? I used to love Rick Gosselins mock. Maybe Greg Cossell will put one out today.
I'm more interested in the top of the draft than I've been in recent years. Lots of interesting players on the board and lots of teams looking to trade. When the Bruins go down 2-0 10 minutes into the first period I won't have to flip between the game and the draft.

Something I've been floating in my mind: What if Houston couldn't trade their pick and took Greg Robinson instead of Clowney?

As good as Robinson is, I just can't see anybody passing on the chance to have Watt and Clowney bookend their defensive line.

If they take Clowney, I think it's with an eye towards trading him within the hour. Otherwise, I think they'll take Mack there.

Trade? How? Explain?

I just want to say thanks to you diehard draftniks who have fed this board with amazing content the last 12 months. You guys make it very easy for a guy like me who doesn't follow college ball and has no interest doing the due diligence required to be on top of this draft. Thanks for making it both easy and enjoyable. Enjoy the fruits of your hard work.

PS......despite admitting my ignorance on all things college ball, I do not waive my right to ***** and moan about the overreach BB will inevitably draft in the 2nd round. I have my "WTF was BB thinking" preloaded and I'm ready to transmit.

Draft day player trades have happened before. Such as when the Chargers picked Eli Manning and shortly after he was traded to NYG.

I came here to post a similar thing. I have to say this has been my favorite year on the draft board. Past years were plagued with overemotional people with blinders on clamoring for a single player and nobody else, but this year has had some really great discussion. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

Sure but that was a rare case between QBs, and had EVERYTHING to do with Manning crying.

Easy. If they are talking trade with Atlanta, Jacksonville, or whomever but can't quite get the compensation right, or if a team thinks Houston is bluffing and doesn't want to trade, Houston would draft Clowney, and trade talks can continue. Jacksonville makes a lot of sense for Clowney with Houston getting Mack, and Atlanta's done too much work on Clowney not to be serious about it.

The main reason it's such a rare scenario is the rookie cap. IIRC you get the cap you get, regardless of post-drafting trades. So the team trading up is left short of cash to cover its whole rookie class.
