Goodell: NFL is thinking about making the draft a 4-day event

If they have trouble getting people to attend the later rounds in NY, what do you think will happen when they take it to smaller markets? There is a reason they don't pan the crowd on TV on day 2 or three, it's because they are lucky if there are 200 people there. And mostly it's because they offer you tickets to the draft the next year if you stay the whole day for day 2 or three...Everybody wants to be there for day 1. (Thanks Roger for making it on a work day)
I've been to three of them and it's packed for round 1 and then crowd thins out to the point that there are more people working for teams there than fans by round 7.....

Apparently Goodell told Eisen that the proposed 4 day draft would be one round on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and then rounds 4-7 on Sunday. Good luck with that. Just who are they counting on to watch that mess?

40,000 posts (and counting) from a guy trying to tell us all that " there's more to life than following the dictates of Roger Goodell and a bunch of overly greedy billionaires." LOLOL

The poster's God is no doubt a God of Irony as well as of wrath, so I am sure that he will appreciate your comment. ;)

I assume God of Wrath refers to me somehow, but the poster you must be quoting is on ignore, so I have no idea what you're responding to (and therefore have no idea of any irony involved).

The same people who watch the combine? :D

See, that's too much to me. I don't care about the 4 days, but going one round per day after the first is spreading it too thin.

If that's the case, I'll watch round 1 and nothing else. Even that first round will depend on NBA/NHL playoff scheduling. If there's a Bruins and or Celtics playoff game on at 7:30 that Thursday of round 1, I'll be tuning in to that. And I'd rather watch other playoff action that isn't a home team than round 2 or 3 or 4-7.

NFL network is going to make tomorrow an all day draft affair, with a draft pre-show that takes up most of the afternoon, and the evening, until the draft begins.

No thanks.

The famous You Got Me So I Will Pretend You Are On Ignore tactic. Classic.

Well, the good news is the NFL may realize having the Draft in early May is a bad idea. The bad news is that they are considering having it in mid to late May instead.

Three NFL people that I really trust say the league is giving serious consideration to scheduling the draft a week or two later in 2015.

Why not move it until June where the real dead period of the NFL is? I think moving the draft two weeks later has been a bust and now they think another week or two would be a good thing?

Maybe Mark Cuban was on to something

"Just watch. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. When you try to take it too far, people turn the other way. I'm just telling you, when you've got a good thing and you get greedy, it always, always, always, always, always turns on you. That's rule No. 1 of business."

I'm already out. I will be watching the Bruins instead of the draft tomorrow. The Draft used to be great when it was on the weekends and I even enjoyed the first year of the Thursday night. Don't think I'll be tuning in any more, however.

Maybe move it into August making it more of a regional affair. teams will weigh distance flown to training camp into their thinking.

Here's how it REALLY is..

Goodell is thinking about...(insert ANY idea of his)

the fans react...

Sure why not keep pushing it back further and stretching it out longer the fans will love it CORRECTION it's for the fans!!! I for one will not be watching the draft or even bother with having it on the in background this year I'll just check Rotoworld every once and a while to see what's happening.

Just follow Mike Reiss' (or another reporter who covers the Patriots) twitter feed.

It's the NFL Network. What do you expect them to do? Show baseball highlights?

I guess we'll find out in a few days what the ratings are for round 1.

Goodell: NFL is thinking about making the draft a 4-day event - CBSSports.com

I truly can't stand Goodell. The draft should be happening this weekend, instead it's spread over 3 days in May (the month they would like to move it to permanently so they can monopolize another month). Now he wants it spread over 4 days in yet another transparent money grab. My interest in this years draft is the lowest it's been in over 20 years thanks to the new format. How much more can he water down everything about the game?

Don't even get me started on his idiotic idea to expand the playoffs.

I truly can't stand why it even matters to you? It's an extra day. I personally get so bored after watching the later stages as it goes on because it does drag...maybe if it is extended a little bit further I'll be more inclined to watch more of it towards the end.

The NFL is a business...and he's bringing in record revenues year-in-year-out. Fair play to him. He's doing a fantastic job.

He's not hired to keep all of you happy and, even when he does upset fans, they still pay to watch and subscribe to cable television....so he's hardly going to be bothered when he's trying to expand and make even more money.
