Goodell: NFL is thinking about making the draft a 4-day event - CBSSports.com

I truly can't stand Goodell. The draft should be happening this weekend, instead it's spread over 3 days in May (the month they would like to move it to permanently so they can monopolize another month). Now he wants it spread over 4 days in yet another transparent money grab. My interest in this years draft is the lowest it's been in over 20 years thanks to the new format. How much more can he water down everything about the game?

Don't even get me started on his idiotic idea to expand the playoffs.

That's a bit much. A lot of people tune out after that 1st round I'd imagine. I could be wrong and perhaps the ratings say differently. I don't think I'd be watching anything but the 1st round at that point. There's playoff hockey and basketball to be watched instead this time of year.

And just to poke the bear, did you see Goodell say that adding teams to the playoffs wouldn't dilute them?

Honest question why do you really care when the draft is held? I am all for bashing Goddell, but 99% of the changes being made still need 24 owners consent to change. So shouldn't some of the bashing be at the owners?

I'm not one of the recidivist Goodell bashers on this website, but recently It's almost become a competition for the league to see which new bad idea is worse than the last.

18 game regular season? 4 day draft? Delaying the draft into May?

It's almost as if someone said "It's impossible to screw up the NFL" and Goodell/owners answer "Wanna bet?"

They are destroying the draft. Moving to May 8th was a stupid idea. Making it three days was a stupid idea. Making it four days will be the worst idea.

BTW, I think Lovie Smith is the only head coach who loves the fact that they pushed the draft back two weeks. But then again, that is why Lovie is on his second head coaching gig. I am sure that Belichick hates it. It is two less weeks for the rookies to get acclimated to the system and the playbook. Other than new head coaches, if you are doing much more than fine tuning your draft board a week or two after the Combine then you are likely going to have a really bad draft unless you get lucky with your picks. I bet Belichick would rather have the draft in early April if they were going to move from late April.

My thoughts exactly. The one round night is very anticlimactic and by the time you get to the third day you lose interest. Go back to the 2 day weekend and for goodness sake do not expand the playoffs. The NFL is not content with the money they make, they want to bleed it dry (and they will).

Ummm.....BB is on his second also.......

Yeah, I guess that is true, but it was a unique situation. Even so, Lovie has never really came off as a particularly good head coach.

That chuckle you just heard in the background right after the OP was announced.... was Mark Cuban

I think Goodell should make the draft a week-long event in London. It can be staged under a big outdoor tent in Picadilly Circus. He can bring along the Rockettes to perform, and perhaps the Rolling Stones can be hired to play tunes live between selections. British fans of the NFL will show up in their favorite team's jerseys and pay $250 per night to witness the full dog-and-pony show which will be broadcast live worldwide.

Uh...I'm no recidivist. I HATE and have always HATED this ex-Jet moron.

They should begin the draft on February 20th and allow for five picks each day at primetime until all seven rounds have completed. Now that would be awesome.

I was just about to post that a week would seem to be the eventual outcome but I think $250 is too small of a figure...more like $500 at the start and escalating to a $1000 eventually. Plus, there's the added possibilities that cities such as Stockholm, Dansk,Simferopol, Athens and Riyadh will host the draft festivities on an alternating basis for the next 50 years.

They have to realize at some point that this crap is eventually going to turn people off right? Most of these owners are smart guys who have made money and they should really figure out that eventually this crap will annoy their audience.

Quit *****ing and don't watch it. If people watch it on multiple days they will show it on multiple days. If people watch 18 games a year they will play 18 games a year. If they move it to May and get bigger ratings they will move it to May. If people watch games on Thursdays and Saturdays, they will play it on Thursdays and Saturdays. Do you start to see a pattern here?

Hate Goodell all you want, but he doesn't do anything without the owner's permission, and so far, every single damn thing he has done has reaped those owners huge rewards. If you want to get rid of him, stop watching football.

They'll probably keep pushing the envelope to see how far they can go then, in the first year that shows a total revenue loss across the board, will start to pull back some of these new ideas. The draft was fine how it was. They then screwed the pooch by moving it back a month and now, on top of that, they're trying to make it a four day "extravaganza"? Come on.

I'm trying to think of anyone alive who I despise more than Goodell...still thinking...

Rumor has it that Goodell is floating the possibility of hosting his own NFL-themed comedy/variety talk show on BBC-TV, "Goody's Grid Goofy Gala." The show will feature celebrity guests plus former NFL players trying their hand at stand-up comedy and improv sketches.

I would watch that because of how utterly terrible it would probably be. The amount of bombing going on on-stage would probably be akin to the old WW2 videos of German Heinkels just unloading bomb after bomb over Britain.
