As per Reiss, Bam Childress has been re-signed.

He looks a long way off making the roster - what a difference a year makes - so can anyone tell me is he eligible for another year on the PS? What are the PS rules?

Since he has 2 seasons as a practice squad player (3 weeks minimum - which he met in both 2005 and 2006), the only way he can go on it in 2007 is by the Billy Yates rule - if the team keeps a 53-man roster throughout the duration of the player's time on the practice squad:

I too am hoping this is the "season without any injuries" and that we have a logjam at WR and other positions... but my guess would be not every person currently signed is going to be healthy enough to even compete with a roster spot

Of course we haven't even brought in the 10 draft picks (obvioulsy it won't be that many, as I expect many trades to increase value for future years) so we're going to have even more "depth" by the end of next month

I never thought he would NOT be signed...yes a long shot..and yes, the Yates rule..which isn't bad...I like him a lot..BUT..MAYBE tough to make it this year..but..a 3rd year on the PSqd?? They DO need some young WRs..as teh Stallworth/Washington train may be here for only a year...

There is always the shadow roster. Beats grabbing a guy off the street in November who doesn't have a clue about the system or the playbook.

True...and he CAN be on the PSqd another year...that is IF they see plans for him down the road..Look at Yates who was on it for awhile and seems in contention for a OL spot...or Thomas who may be on it for a 3rd year...Alexaander has been around for 3 years I believe..so he, is a a player the team has invested a LOT in..so I think they expect he will make it. .sometimes it take awhile..

I wonder, will Bam see more reps at CB during the proceeding minicamps, et al.? I suppose it depends on the health of the current WRs going forward, and on whether more WRs are brought aboard via free agency and the draft.

Ah poor Bam. He will be teased again with the opportunity of a roster spot and cut once training camp breaks. I really do feel sorry for him as he seems to be a determined guy. But what is this 3 years in a row now?

The start of Bam's career is looking quite similar to the start of the career of a fan favorite, Troy Brown, who was cut three times by the Pats. Here's hoping Bam's perseverance pays off like Troy's did. In Bam's favor, they have liked him enough to keep him employed the last two years, and bring him back for a third. In Troy's early days, when you were cut you went home, no practice squad, no paychecks.
