Why are these two guys so ill informed about what they talk about....

You have wanna be big shot Felger & his ESPN radio show and Tomase - HERALD BEAT writer for the Patriots. Shouldn't they have a grasp of basic information??

I just heard the two of them go off on a rant wondering if this might be the first step in a holdout and likening the situation to that of Branch.

So many wrongs in a 5 minute rant it makes me wonder why they get paid!!

As summed up so well by the good folks over at:

More picking on the flash guys...

I heard it reported this morning - with the required twinge of urgency - that Asante Samuel did NOT report to the Patriots first day of their off season conditioning program. It was made to sound like there was a mini-holdout going on.

The problem with this is that Samuel has trained in Florida during the offseason in the past. The other problem is that while the Patriots have placed the franchise tag on Samuel, he is, as of this moment, still a free agent. He is not the property of the Patriots, as he has not signed the one year franchise deal. Why then, would he be a participant in the team's conditioning program at this point?

It's another example of trying to make a story out of nothing, which so many of them do.

Tomase works for the Boston Herald.

Sorry, had a Felger moment....major apologies to Mr Reiss, the only Patriots guy that you can really rely on in this town to take the time to get it right.

He is not even insured, if he hurts himself throwing out his back he lost 7 mill.

These guys are idiots. They have to fill 3 hours of talk, so they fill it, even if what they say makes them sound foolish to fans that actually know whats up.

They are afraid to talk draft or salary cap because they dont want to spend 4 hours or so with someone who has knowledge of the cap. By feigning ignorance of the cap they can say things like The pats could have paid Branch and Givens and adam and willie 20 mill last year and still made a splash this year.

They got so spoiled by the stupid redsox trading away future players for a better shot this year.

Never mind Samuel has said he's content with what he's being paid. Never mind his agent says he won't do what Branch did. Never mind he's always trained in Florida in the off-seasonThose are inconvienent FACTS. They're boring.

I've steadily grown to dislike Tomase and more recently Breer who is utterly obsessed with the Stallworth-Washington fued from 5 years ago. Tomase and Breer are two divas who are more suited to be on The View talking about Brittany Spears and Anna Nicole than they are covering the Patriots. They're way into the drama, even when there is no story whatseover.

Just another Naysayer moment...as I have said for months now...just let them talk and ignore...just chalk another up for their stupidity....Don't get too upset...maybe these should be labeled Felger mistake number X and so on..

That's not quite correct. Samuel has said things are going well, not that he's content with what he's being paid. His agent has said he won't rule out doing what Branch did this early in the dance, provided the team continues to negotiate with them towards a long term deal, but it remains on the table. And Asante trained here his first two seasons, but reportedly chose to train in Florida last season because his wife was expecting their second child in the off season. And players get paid for training and are covered for injury as if they were under their non-guaranteed contracts in season. Adam trained with the team in 2005 before signing his tag on the eve of the July 15th deadline for doing a longer deal.

Drama sells, fuels ratings, gets you gigs on sports talk radio and idiot programming like FSNE. They aren't playing to this audience, they are pandering to the casual Pats fan who actually relies on them for info because they don't know any better.

Felger is too busy managing his media empire to actually do any digging as a reporter any more. Plus most of his access has dried up as a result of his newly found, anti-homerism, so called "objectivity". Tomase is just back from his still annual spring hiatus in Ft. Myers - where his heart truly lies (with the anti-Manny's...LOL). Breer is nearly as dogged a blogger as Reiss, but his access has suffered by association with the Herald. Mike was able to overcome association with Borges' employer, kinda like Holley did when he was at the Globe, bu using his head and earning the FO's trust. But his connection to the FO will likely limit his access to players and agents somewhat. Those are the sources that will gravitate to the Herald crew, particularly when they have an axe to grind or a situation to spin.

Very very good...a true look at the media..Curran was good but he's gone and has been a bit anti-Patriot..although I think he's back on board now. I have to say that Holley and Reis are still my fave's..just can NOT at all listen to much of MF...he's bombastic and just a naysayer..who should become irrelevant...You are so right drama sells..even if it is nonsense..intelligence is always a back seat deal..
He's much headed the WrongB way..BUT?? what does one expect looking for ratings...

What kind of ratings would a Reiss / Holley Patriots show bring I wonder?? Or, would they also be forced to be like Mike to gain ratings??

I want to believe that cream would rise to the top and a truly informative, honest and factual show would not only survive, but actually prosper.

Maybe Kraft Productions would enhance the Mike Lynch TV All access with a radio version aired a few times a week?

Hard to say..I always like to believe that..but..drama sells..controversy..always on top..even if it is phony fake contrived..the deep informational and straight is better BUT..hardly to MOST mainstream...Hmmmm.. I do agree it might be a LOT better but??
I think the past shows that sometimes better in content..doesn't mean better in ratings...I do have to admit that sometimes MikeyF pulls me in..BUT I have a rule..unless there is a guest OR a big topic happening..I will only listen until ONE outrageous and untrue remark is made..and then gone...
sometimes it is longer than other times..sometimes as short as a minute..Abd what is sad is that the show STARTED down the more informative path...and obviously ratings paved the path of drama and nonsense...

Tomase and Felger may have been off the mark on why Samuel's not at off-season training, but accorind to Mike Reiss the contract extenstion situation may not be as rosy as some have been reporting and we have been hoping.

Tucked away at the bottom of his mailbag is this little nugget:

" Q: Is it true that Asante Samuel is not happy with the team tagging him with the franchise tag? And what are the odds of the two settling this by agreeing on a long-term contract.
Paul Delucia, Weymouth

A: Publicly, Samuel has said everything is fine, which I think is a tactic to keep a happy, public face on the situation. But behind the scenes, I think he is obviously disappointed to not have the chance to hit the open market at a time when teams are paying big contracts. The sides have until July 16 to agree on a long-term contract, and if it doesn't happen until then, nothing can happen until after the 2007 season. I don't believe the sides have started negotiating at this time, so it's hard to put odds on the likelihood of an extension. "

This little drama still has a long way to play out.

For what it's worth he also suggests in the mailbag that there seems to be very little likelihood of the Pats making a move for Edgerton Hartwell. Says the player has made overtures to the Pats which have not been reciprocated.

Holley and Reiss are the best, but we have to get some new blood in town. I'm happy that we don't have to read Wrong Borges for a while, but Felger is almost as painful. He's so wrong all the time. He does take negative slants on things, where there would otherwise not be a story.

Oh well. This is what we got.
