The 2014 Edition : Jets continue to suck (what else is new)

The Jets have significantly improved, overall, on paper. If Milliner and Smith take second year leaps, NY will be the clear #1 challenger to the Patriots in the division, and they will have an excellent shot at making the playoffs.

Being the Jets, they'll still suck, because they're the Jets, but they could be a winning football team that's difficult to beat.

I don't know if the Jets have significantly improved. They are worse on defense. They may have one of the worst secondaries in the league and it sucked last year. They improved their #2 WR and their RB rotation and maybe their QB if Vick wins the starting job, can stay healthy, and hasn't declined even further from his several season skid. That is about it.

They will be in the mix for a Wild Card, but that is because the AFC sucks. They could be a tough team for the Pats to beat, but they usually are.

You are amazing, man. The Jets add a rusher who hasn't been a factor as a RB for the last 3 years and they have "significantly improved". I can only assume you are being sarcastic.

BTW- Why is it you make an automatic assumption that Smith and Milliner will make significant 2nd year leaps, while at the same time you consistently ignore the possibility that any of the 9 Patriot 2nd year players who had a significant number of snaps last season, having a similar leap.

Dobson and Thompkins won't have a second year leap because the Pats were monumentally stupid to let Welker go. Haven't we gone over this enough with Deus.

You hate Sanchez. Of course, not the person, you've never met him and you're sure he's a really nice guy blahblahblah.

You hate Sanchez the player and don't ever try to deny it.

And I hate Jet fans that hate current or former Jet players.

Life is too short to ******** stuff like that.

I work with a ton of Pats fans. My lawyers are Pats fans. I go to the Jets- Pats game very year at Gillette, sit in one of Krafts suites. Biggest douchebags in the world. I'm going to fire them someday.

If you can't/don't hate Pats fans then well you're not really a Jet fan.

Probably a Jet fan that hates current or former Jets.

Your posts are full of non-sequiturs. What is it you are trying to say?

That's why I prefaced my post with "serious question". I wasn't trying to be a **** (this time), I honestly did not know.

Are you drunk, or just a Jets fan attempting to communicate through writing?

Life's too short? You'd know all about that, being a physical and mental midget.

Surprised to see you trolling over here Stokesy. I hear you left the Kool Kids Klub of merry losers at JI and have shown up posting pics of your mediocre culinary skills and your nail bitten hobbit hands holding up cans of beer at some other NJ Jest site.

But really dude, you've fallen deeper than Ham I see. Shame.

There's nothing but love around here for Mark Sanchez who gave us the greatest play in Jets -Patriots history.

Well, I don't know about "love," but there will be a certain fondness for Sanchez, for what was simultaneously the greatest play in the history of Patriots v. JEST, but also, to paraphrase Deadspin, the JESTiest JEST play ever. :)

The Jets suck so bad that THIS season, they are installing face pump stations on each level and intend to implement a new Jets chant .. F-A-C-E...pump pump pump

Looking at the jets schedule...the first 1/2 of their season will be FULL of suck.

Play Broncos then short week vs Pats..all of them are *****ing about it...what losers

It's really amazing to look back over the Wrecks Ryan era and appreciate what a train wreck we've witnessed

Let's start with the trade that brought Sanchez to the Jets in the first place - that's when Rex traded up to #5 (allowing the Browns to take Alex Mack and a bunch of other draft picks and players) - then Rex takes a Junior QB with confidence problems, throws him in as starter and promptly GUARANTEES that the kid with confidence issues and not doing well with all the pressure playing in NY will bring, is going to win the Super Bowl.

Epic fail.

So of course Wrecks does the same thing the following year.

Oh, don't get me wrong - they've had some good games and even a good little run helped with some blind luck (like the season when they would have been 8-8 had the Colts not had the balls to go for the Perfect Season and instead pulled all their starters, allowing the Jets the first victory over the Colts that season, and backing into the playoffs as a 9-7 team.

I mean even their "victories" can make you laugh a bit.

Then of course Wrecks continues to send mixed messages to his QB with confidence issues - bringing in competition for him with the Tebow trade to push him, but then soothing him with a contract extension... or doing things like saying "as long as I'm the coach, Sanchez will be my QB" - which can't be all that soothing to hear from a guy who guaranteed a Super Bowl season. Twice.

And mixed in between we have all kinds of highlights like the ButtFumble - and I'm sure Patsfans nation can recall many more than I...

So of course now we are somewhat back to square one, although the Jets will be carrying Sanchez's cap hit for at least another season.

Can't wait to see what 2014 has in store!

I love yearly rituals. Thanksgiving dinner, BBQ and then fireworks on the 4th of July, NFL Draft Day 1.......

But today is my favorite yearly ritual. The NFL schedule being released? Well, no. Not directly anyway. Every year once the schedule is released, I like to watch Jets fan reactions. It's not really an anthropological study, as their behavior is so predictable and unchanging.

It is the highest point of the season for that creature known as a Jet fan. Hope is at its yearly high. They break down the wins and losses on the schedule, almost unanimously marking W's next to games against teams like Detroit, Chicago, San Diego, and other teams not quite on the Jets' level. Go look at jetsinsider! It's almost 10-6 across the board. Week 16 against the Patriots will be for the division. Sweep Miami and Buffalo, and then split with New England. It's a given.

NFL schedule release day. The day when Jets fans plot their path to that elusive Super Bowl. It's an amazing high to watch. But don't worry. Observing the Jet fan is a year long gift. From here it's all down hill for them. Doubt starts to creep in at the draft. "Same old Jets" muttering starts when the team can't muster a 1st down in the 1st pre-season game. Sure, there will be a small spike in chest thumping when they eek out a 13-10 win against Oakland in Week 1. But then they start playing real teams, and another season of mediocrity becomes reality. Jets fans then slowly begin their in-fighting and Brady-is-gay shouts to make it through what is always the most depressing time of the year--the regular season.

So go watch the annual anomaly. Go watch the red-headed step child of the NFL celebrate its yearly triumph. It's amazing and kind of cute to see Jets fans so sky high. It's a once a year thing, so appreciate it!

If I were a Jets fan, schedule release day would be a day to drown your sorrows in alcohol dreading the futility to come.
