This sounds about right. Former Chargers and Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman, who had previously dipped his toes in the professional wrestling waters, will join WWE, according to SBNation's Testudo Times.

The announcement that the man once known as "Lights Out" would be "joining the WWE family" came on the John Layfield and Michael Cole podcast, though Merriman's role isn't yet known.

Merriman, who starred at the University of Maryland and was taken 12th overall by the Chargers in the 2005 NFL Draft, appeared on WWE's Wrestlemania pre-match show last weekend. And in November 2013, he tried out at the WWE's Performance Center but wasn't offered a contract at the time.

He apparently had an argument with a wrestler a while back. Evidently Shawne attempted to hook up several of the female wrestlers but was rejected. One of the wrestlers poked fun at him on Twitter with this tweet:

cm-punk-put-shawne-merriman-in-the-perfect-plex-with-this-tweet.png

Shawne then later replied:

***** C.M. Punk, he's still a punk forever in my book. I'm sure my supporters feel the same way... And WWE, I ain't hosting y'all new network until somebody whoop C.M. Punk cuz he's a p$ssy.

Serious, who the ***** is C.M. Punk other than a soft butt...wrestling gone soft f off... If god is my witness, C.M. Punk was wearing a thong laying by the pool tanning his cheeks in Costa Rica, now tell me I'm lying... C.M. Punk wants no part of Lights, trust me...

And WWE, I ain't hosting sh#t until C.M. is dethroned... I ain't a hater at all, but if you like dudes tanning by the pool (in) a thong that's cool. I think he had pillows under his stomach.

(In response to a CM Punk fan) Shaddup he's a coward

#cmpunkthong start it now people

Please get #cmpunkthong trending y'all would make my night

Wow, this ISN'T an Onion article?

Haha this is all legit. Pretty funny.

Roosevelt Colvin can teach his opponents after beating him to say "It's lights out, we have a power outage!" and Vrabel can teach them how to mimic the lights out dance.

Well I'm sure he'll have better luck there than in american ninja warrior where he sucked, although all that weight didn't help him. :p

Not sure why you'd think this was a joke.

I haven't cared much about Pro Wrestling in about 20 years but plenty of players have done it. Former Pats LB Monty Brown was a pro wrestler for a while, for instance.

I'm still a a fan of Leo Nomellini! :D

still blows my mind how he went from dominant to nonexistent so fast. I know he had an injury and got busted for PEDs, but still, i would think he would find a way to curtail his use while still staying relevant

I still find it funny how he hit on all of the female wrestlers but was rejected by all of them. Then he was called out by it on twitter by another wrestler. Whoever said he was a clown was spot on.

This move makes sense, now that the Anabolic Warrior is dead.

Wasn't he the guy that bragged before that 2006 Chargers playoff game he was going to "punch Brady in the mouth"?

You never see the BB-era Pats talk trash and gloat but I'm glad that game was an exception to that rule.

Yeah. I was gonna comment that the move makes perfect sense, since he can juice all he wants to and end up dead far sooner than he should.
