Basically the same as the old one, but a new new cleaner thread, with better defined rules.

Like the first thread we will be using the MSN/ FoxSports top 500 that can be found here: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6421386

You can pick anyone at or below the Pats picks, for example, if Chris Houston is listed at 24, you can pick him or anyone beyond that pick

Also you can make trades using the pick value chart that can be found here: http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/pick_value_chart.htm the picks that you trade must within 5 on the value chart, but use your own discretion. Please explain why the other team would make the trade, as proposed by PatChick!

Here is a list of picks...have fun finding a trading partner! http://www.thehuddlereport.com/nickelpackage/draftorder.shtml

Also, this game will include the comp picks as projected by AdamJT13 of the KFFL forums, I personally think he's dead on about our comps, remember comps CAN NOT be traded. So let's use the following picks

24, 28, 91, 123, 160, 165, 187, 192, 193, 224

The only problem I can forsee is that the draft pick value chart doesn't take into account comp picks that push other picks down, for now, just use the chart as it is regardless, don't worry about it. ENJOY!! :rocker:

Looks like the same rules except you are allowing trades.

That and I'm including more definite comp picks...sorry, I would've put it in the other thread, but that one's kinda crowded and no one would've read it.

OK not a problem. Didn't know if there was a problem with the other 'rules".

Adding the comp picks would be needed to be done sometime anyway. We can change it again when get a 4th instead of a 5th.:rocker:

TRADES (parentheses indicate pick value)

28 and 187 (677.6) to the Falcons for 44 and 75 (675)

Falcons trade up for Ted Ginn Jr, as their recieving corps is pitiful.

75 and 123 (264) to the Browns for 67 and 194 (269.8)

24 (740) to the Texans for 39 and 71 (745)

Texans trade up for Chris Houston as they need someone opposite Dunta Robinson.

71 and 194 (249.8) to the Lions for 67 (260)

91 (136) to the Saints for 121 and 122 (103)

39. Michael Griffin, FS, Texas
44. Michael Bush, RB, Louisville
66. David Harris, ILB, Michigan
67. Josh Wilson, CB, Maryland
121. Zak DeOssie, ILB, Brown
122. Quincy Black, OLB, New Mexico
160. Daniel Sepulveda, P, Baylor

This is great. If we do enough of these, I'm sure to look like a genius somewhere. No?

NE trades the 24th, 123rd, and 187th pick in the draft (740+49+17.6=806.6) to TB for 35th, 64th and 215th picks (550+250+6.4=806.4). The sixth for the seventh is hardly necessary but I'm a stickler for rules. I assumed that 20 comp picks would be awarded in rounds three through six.

NE trades the 28th pick in the draft to the Seahawks for the 55th and a 2008 second rounder.

35. Brandon Siler, ILB
55. Jason Hill, WR
64. Tanard Jackson, FS
91. Zak DeOssie, OLB
160. Courtnay Brown, CB
165. CJ Gaddis, FS
192. Anthony Waters, ILB
193. Desmond Bishop, ILB
215. Prescott Burgess, ILB
224. Jeff Rowe, QB

Mavfan, unlike some here, I actually like mocks with trades. But that assumes it's a full mock of every team so the trade can proceed as a consequence of the way the board is developing. E.g. "ok, there are 3 blue-chip DTs in this draft, the 2nd just came off the board so a team in desperate need of a tackle may want to slide up here ahead of..." etc.

In this format it's too easy to just engineer convenient trades with foreknowledge of the picks that will follow. E.g., you happen trade up exactly 4 spots to #67 when, by a remarkable coincidence, Josh Wilson would have been off the board at 68. ;)

Can I suggest a rule amendment that you have to specify why the other team makes the trade? Who do the Falcons and Texans see in round 1 worthy of a trade up?

Haha, ya I got a bit crazy with trades to fit my own agenda...haha, agreed on the rule.

How about you allow for reaches and player slips you should allow a us to pick a play 5 spots above in the first 2 rounds 10 in 3 and 15 after that which I think is realistic? any takers

and Drafttek.com has a great list for the team needs by priority that would be grat for draft help.

Only problem is, who's to say who would fall? Then we would get into "he's the sure thing, no way he fall, you're being unrealistic "anything can happen its the draft" arguments. For now, please just pick someone at the spot or below :)

Thanks

Going straight up - no trades or picking higher.

24. Spencer OLB
28. Griffin, S
91 Marten, OT, BC
123 DeOssie, LB, Brown
160. Graham, CB, UNH
165. Chris Henry, RB, ASU
187. Waters, LB, Clems
192. Naanee, WR, Boise
193. Daren Stone, S Maine
224. Chaz Williams, CB,La-Mon

It seems like so many of the players we like are rising up the boards. I did two of these, one with a trade and one without. I suggested trading 91, 123, and 187 to the Steelers for 77. The only reason why they would do it is for more draft picks. The last 3 picks were the same for each draft, didn't feel like typing it again.
24. Chris Houston CB Arkansas----------24. Chris Houston
28. Brandon Merriweather S Miami-------28. Brandon Merriweather
91. Andy Alleman OG Akron-------------77. Stewart Bradley ILB Nebraska
123. Zak De Ossie ILB Brown------------160. Daniel Sepulveda P Baylor
160. Matt Spaeth TE Minnesota---------165. Allen Barbre OT Missiouri Southern
165. Chris Henry RB Arizona
187. Jordan Kent WR Oregon
192. Tyler Palko QB Pittsburgh
193. Dallas Sartz OLB USC
224. Dan Mozes C West Virginia

I am using the NFLDraftScout site which is up to date (Fox is 5 days old and uses NFL Draft Scout).

25. Chris Houston DB Arkansas (bring on Deion)
28. Trade to Houston for #42, swap of 3rd picks (73), 4th #107 and 7th #213
Houston needs an Oline and especially a LT Joe Staley and Tony Ugoh are sitting there.
42. Anthony Spencer OLB/DE
73. Eric Weedle SS/CB Utah
107 Sabby Piscatelli SS Oregon
123 Zak DeOssie LB Brown
160 c Dan Sepulveda P Baylor
165 Garrett Wolfe RB N Illinois
187 trade for 5th rd pick next year
192 c Yamon Figurs WR/KR/ST Kansas St (PS)
193 c Jordan Palmer QB (Camp arm and PS)
213 Anthony Waters ILB Clemson (PUP Candidate)
224 c John Talley CB Duke (new coach O'Brien's pick)

8 (trade 24 and 28): Laron Landry, S, LSU
91: Dan Bazuin, OLB, Central Michigan
123: Zak DeOssie, ILB, Brown
160: Chris Henry, RB, Arizona
165: Allen Barbre, OT, Missouri Southern State
187: James Jones, WR, San Jose State
192: C.J. Gaddis, FS, Clemson
193: Dallas Sartz, OLB, USC
224: Jeff Rowe, QB, Nevada

I am using the NFLDraftScout site which is up to date (Fox is 5 days old and uses NFL Draft Scout).

Ditto...

24. OT Joe Staley -- the only 1st-round value left on my board
28. TRADE #28 to Atlanta for #44 and their #2 in 2008. The big value on the board at this point is OL, which the Falcons need in a big way.
44. Hoo-boy is this hard. Harris, J. Wilson, Leonard, Gattis, Bradley...but I'll go with S Eric Weddle
91. ILB Tim Shaw -- yeah, he's too small. At this stage in the draft, though, I'll spend a pick on an athletic kid who's held his own at LB, DE and even RB.
123. OLB Zak DeOssie -- at this point he's a legitimate value, not just a sentimental pick. A rare swing OLB/ILB candidate.
160. CB Courtney Brown -- intriguing small-school prospect
165. OG Dan Santucci -- Solid-looking guard. Redhead, beard.
187. QB Jeff Rowe -- should go higher, a solid developmental prospect in the Brady style
192. KR/WR Yamon Figurs -- A break-it-open return man with some potential at receiver
193. LB Anthony Waters -- PUP candidate with upside
224. S Will Gulley -- Non-combine guy with good size and skills

I used the Kirwin mock as the basis for how players & trades might occur before #24. For team needs to help locate trading partners, I used http://www.newerascouting.com/index.php?c=6 Both of my trading partners had multiple picks and were rebuilding.

24: Trade - Kirwin has the Titans taking USC's Jarret at #19. Their #2 need is DE, and CB may be #1 due to Pacman: Spencer and Houston are just the bait to wangle a trade back to #50. NE trades #24 (740) + 2008 3rd (= 2007 4th 49) + #165 (26.4) for #50 (400) + Ten's 2008 2nd (est. 400) + #189 (16.8). Titans outbid Lions who also want DE & CB (I want to move back further than 35 so Ten's 50 trumps Lions' offer). Trade value NE (815.4) Ten (816.8) (I think this could be a more favorable trade in real world terms, but within the rules...)

28: Trade - Kirwin has the Lions trading back and taking Brady Quinn in round 1 in exchange for Tampa's 2nd and 4th. Detroit needs OT, DE, CB, LB, or OG - Jets projected to take DE Harrell, Eagles S Griffin, & Saints OLB Beason: NE receives Tampa's 2nd #35 (550), Detroit's 2008 3rd (= to 2007 4th (112)), Detroit can now address needs for OT before Chicago and Baltimore, or LB/DE before Baltimore - Houston or Spencer may also be there depending on Tennessee, NYJ, Philadelphia, & Saints moves. NE value (660) Det value (662).

35: DE Ray McDonald (Florida) - I'd like to trade back further, but with no clear trade partner I'll draft Hill's competition.

50: LB Stewart Bradley (Nebraska) - I don't have the horsepower to trade up from 91, so I take my top ILB prospect and pypass favorites Gonzalez, Leonard, and Smith.

91: LB Brian Robison (Texas) - He edges out DeOssie, I think he will be stronger at ILB and is also a STs' stud.

123: SS Sabby Piscatelli (Oregon State) - This is the sweet spot in the draft, there are so many I like. Sabby has the size I want at SS, and speed + quicks to match WRs.

160: TE Kevin Boss (Western Oregon) - This kid wowed them in position drills at the Combine and his Pro-day.

187: ILB Anthony Waters (Clemson) - Reported to be a fine MLB before his knee injury, his Pro-day will give us some idea how well he is recovering. Bradley and Robison are candidates to play ILB or OLB, Waters is flyer on a medical risk and an experienced ILB to go with the two projects.

189: CB Tim Mixon (California) - I'd like to be trading forward to 2008 at this point, but projecting a partner is too much of a stretch. Mixon is the next slot receiver. In future rankings I expect Usama Young to move up and be a draft target here, for now he remains a UDFA target.

192: OT Herb Taylor (Texas A&M) - 4 year starter at RT, technician, surprised scouts with his fluid play at LT during Shrine Game.

193: OT Gabe Hall (TCU) - converted TE, quick hands and feet.

224: QB Cullen Finnerty (Grand Valley State) - Pats are one of 14 teams who have expressed an interest in him, same number as Drew Stanton.

Summary:
Draft picks +1 for 2008: Tennessee 2008 #2, Detroit 2008 #3 (less Pats' 2008 #3).

It's like his need to "water" the rough on the golf course, he's convinced Mother Nature will reward him by placing another Patriots' logo golf ball in his selected patch of greenery.
